We Have Shaken Hands Like Grown Men Should

More news today on the aftermath of Jose Enrique’s tweet criticizing  Newcastle owner, Mike Ashley, on Sunday.

The open training season – photo taken by Newcastle supporter Kevin Lively

And it turns out Jose has been fined two weeks wages, and since the estimate was £100K, that means the lad is getting £50K/week on Tyneside,  and has been for the last four years, since he arrived from Villareal when Sam Allardyce was the new manager of Newcastle.

And reading between the lines, it looks like Jose was offered close to this same exact terms over a new five year extension of his contract, and that fits with what Jose says was not really an increase at all.

But hey, ten years at £50K/week is not too bad for any player, surely.

But it seems the Newcastle manager had a good one-on-one talk with Jose, probably at the request of  a furious owner, Mike Ashley, and things have been sorted out, and it’s over, as the great Roy Orbison used to sing back in the 1960s.

And surprisingly enough Jose Enrique was all smiles at the open training session at the Crew Stadium yesterday, where he was seen to smile and pose for pictures with Newcastle fans in the continuous sunshine.

Pardew again talked about Jose:

“He will play at Columbus and he trained well.” “We have shaken hands and put it all to bed like grown men should. “Now and again we all make mistakes.”

“He might not think it is a mistake, but I know I do. That is all in the past now.”   “It is not good to put things on Twitter when you are not in a good place emotionally – it does not reflect well on people.”

“It is an instant diary. At school you used to write diaries and you would look back and think ‘what was I writing!”  “A lot of people will look back at some things they write and be embarrassed.”

“They have to learn the media are quickly alerted to these sites and it immediately turns into news and used very negatively.”

That’s certainly how it should be, and there is news today that Arsenal and Liverpool will now fight it out for the player.

And the news is that Jose should be transferred before the weekend, but somehow we just don’t that will happen.

What do you think?

I thought his new deal which was to make him the highest player at the club was £50k a week, but like ed says, he has been fined 2 weeks (2x £50k) wages for his rant.

So how has he been offered any improved contract?

The wage cap came in after colo. He’s on between £70k-£80k a week, easily our highest earning player.

If jose wanted to stay, he would have signed a long time ago, so as much as I hate to say it, transfer list the lad and use Forster to get a deal with done for Emilio Izaguirre.

Forster is a country mile behind Krul, he’s far to slow getting down to save shot’s, flaps at everything.
Krul for No1, Harper as back-up with Forster being shown the door

Was not impressed with Forster against Orlando, I believe that Krul is head and shoulders above him.
Also we need a quality left back where as Celtic need a keeper, offer Forster to them in part ex for Emilio Izaguirre

    Forster a future England No1?
With Joe Hart only a few months older than Forster and in a completely different league as far as ability goes, can’t see Forster taking the number 1 shirt myself

Im sure Enrique said on twitter words to the effect that he hadnt been offered any more money in his new contract.
It’s been described as a fantastic offer due to the wage cap and probably the recent contract offers that have been signed by other players. Which means that he was simply offered what hes on now.
Its a cost cutting exercise allround. They want to balance the books ahead of resigning any player.
Enrique’s said they’re showing no ambition and wont buy the players needed to bring us into the top 6 which is why he’s leaving… I dont blame him.

#32 Harper’s family must be settled in the area.

Can’t see him wanting to leave, then we’ll have yet another player sitting running down his contract.

P.i we have brought 2 internationals 1 more could be done soon marv will end up playing for france and abied is no doubt gona be a star if he keeps goin the way he is jose needs to look and think how can you go from 12th to top 6 the next season if we get players in like we have done the season after then i think we could finally get into the top 6 but you have to look at the teams in the top 6 aswell 4 are big spenders then arsenal and spuds who are starting to go backwards we do have some ambition to many people are to blind to see it if they take theeir kk glasses off you will see it

Enrique said he was offered the same money so he was on £50k a week and was offered a new contract at the same amount.

But also stated it wasn’t about money, which i believe, he is in terms of everyone else in the League the 4th Highest LB (Behind AshCole/Evra/Clichy)

But when you see them saying we need 2/3 players then a week latter say 1 maybe 2.
And all we have spent even inc agent/player fees is around 4M, Plus we have a habit of selling our best players (Nolan/Carrol and next will be Jose)

The only ambition we have is to get cheap players in to sell on.

2 of the signings we have got have poor injury records, and neither Cabaye, Marveaux or Abied have any EPL experience
