Newcastle To Increase Transfer Focus

Newcastle will continue full bore in the transfer market, once they return from America.

Erdinc – number one striker target

Pardew is in pursuit of a striker and if we are to believe the news this morning, Erdinc remains  the number one choice,  but Newcastle could move for Jermain Defoe, if they fail to get the PSG striker.

But we cannot see Mike Ashley paying £10M for a 29 year-old, or put it this way, it will be a huge surprise if that happens.

A source close to the transfer business told the Newcastle press today:

“There are other priorities at the moment.” “The manager is focusing on getting in the striker he needs.”

“And the fact that a left-back is needed in the event of Jose Enrique leaving is also not lost on anybody here.”

“It is very much a case of judging Newcastle’s business when the window is closed.”

It looks like Newcastle will bring in an older experienced left back in place of Jose Enrique, and candidates include Bridge, Warnock and Shorey.

It would be good if Newcastle  do that soon too, so if Liverpool or some other club comes in for Jose on August 31st, which is likely, the club will already be covered.

With the promising displays of young defenders Tavernier and Dummett last night, Newcastle have some good talent coming through the ranks, as seems usual these days.

And news that Newcastle were offered former players Bassong and Beye at the beginning of the summer, but there will be no way back  for two players who headed for the door when Newcastle were on their last legs, following relegation,  two years ago.

There were some heroes that came through then, like Smith, Barton, Nolan, Enrique, Harper and Coloccini, but Beye and Bassong were not two of them.

It’s onward and upward for Newcastle from now on – well that’s what we are  hoping for.

Howay The Lads!!

i dont mind us getting someone like bridge in for a years loan, especially if someone like ferguson will be pushing for first team regular by next summer.

rather that than spend money on an emergency buy.

think the main reason gosling left everton was because he was always been played out of position.he wanted to play centre midfield.moyes kept playing him on the right & left etc..
so dont think he would be that keen to move to right back….

I’d have taken Bassong back but I don’t think the dressing room would have welcomes him back, as if he took 2 years off while the rest did the hard work.

We need Erdinc, the one thing we’re lacking up top is pace and somebody to run into the channels and stretch defences

I remember Beye as being a pretty steady performer at the back. Won a few MoM awards in his day.
Bassong however couldn’t keep a spot down, not good enough.
And oh how he bragged about Newcastle before he was finally bought….
    Mercenaries, get rid.

    FROM BBC SPORT
Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Wigan Athletic over the signing of winger Charles N’Zogbia.

The French international, 25, is now set to discuss personal terms with the Midlands club.

Villa said they hoped to complete the deal later this week as they rebuild following the sales of Stewart Downing and Ashley Young.

Neither club has announced the agreed fee, although reports suggest it is in the region of £9.5m.

Why can’t we hijack the move ?

Great highlights whoever posted them up. We looked good and played at a high tempo. Good to see we finally got what we were looking for when we went out there. Gosling has a great engine on him and from the highlights looked very involved. Midfield is great competition wise. We have 4 cms who i would be happy seeing them start. Possibly guthrie for the lesser teams. Wingers are still slightly light but if the younguns can fill those spaces and keep improving then it all bodes well for their progression!

@24, @32. Seriously lads. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Xisco play a decent game, or read a review of him playing a noteworthy reserve game. Can someone give an example? A shimmering glimpse of potential we can cling to? I think this talk shows we are paper-thin, and needs some more decent players, pronto. Depth. 2 strikers, a left back, and some further cover in midfield.

From the highlights Ba seemed to be getting himself into a couple of decent positions as well just lacking the sharpness in finishing but his positional sence and runs looked positive
