Some Good Performances From Newcastle Last Night

There were  a lot of positives that Alan Pardew will have taken from the game last night in Columbus.

James Tavernier – solid game in defense

Newcastle were superior throughout the game, and of course it helped when goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum handled outside the box just before the interval, and left little alternative for the referee other to send him off.

But Newcastle were already 1-0 up with a good opportunist goal from Shola Ameobi after 8 minutes, and then on 51 minutes captain Coloccini scored a lovely goal with his left foot, and Newcastle became even more dominant.

Youngsters Tavernier and Dummett, who was introduced in place of the superb Coloccini after Fabricio’s goal, were both solid in defense, and young Dam Gosling was energetic in the Newcastle midfield throughout.

And Slovenian Haris Vuckic again showed why he seems to be in big demand by some big clubs, with a terrific goal just before the end.

And this could be the season for the 18 year-old to come through big time on Tyneside, and we hope he does just that.

It was just one pre-season win, but it seems to have done a lot for the Newcastle fans, who were upbeat about the much improved display after  the rather lethargic performance on Saturday night in Orlando.

Now to get Mevlut Erdinc and a left back in over the next week or so, and we’ll be on our way again.

Comments welcome.

We seem to be playing the youngsters a lot, I think this is the future business of nufc, getting in good young quality and bringing them through. I reckon we will bring in one or two more players and rely on the youngsters to fill the squad.

We looked good last night IMO

good to see the young lads in there and they didn’t look out of place neither.

I think with the young lads we will have far better options on the bench next season, than Smith, Guthrie, Raylor etc!

Gosling looked busy in the highlights and contributed a great deal.

Gonna be a selection headache in midfield next season!

Although I, like many Black n Whites have been raging this summer over the AC money and the lies surrounding that issue made worse by the clubs pathetic PR, i am growing more optimistic for the season. Gozling is showing real promise and looked class last night. Ba held the ball up well and Vuckic looks a really exciting prospect. Midfield looks promising when you consider the competion for places that will give Pardew a number of options! We are still woefully light up front and at the back but lets hope the time we have left in the transfer window, that inadequacy can be put right with a couple of signings. Theres real promise in the team and its such a shame that the clubs PR (self inflicted, their fault not ours) has led to so much bickering this summer! Yes we do need signings and yes it would be nice to have the truth or at least some dialogue from the upper echelons of the club( dont hold your breath) ! Maybe then we can all start and get behind the team. I don’t like Ashley and the way he runs things one bit but on the playing side I can see some potential. Maybe not league winning potential and not to get carried away but potential for a decent season.

Danny Simpson will be fine at RB. He seems to be growing more and more as a player. Hopefully he stops backing off his man (Spurs/Sunderland) but otherwise he’s been pretty solid already. I rate the lad. I’m also please to see just how accomplished Tavernier is already. I really won’t be too concerned if Simpson misses any matches, because his back seems more than capable.

Can’t get over how big Dan Gosling is. I thought he was only a small fella, but clearly not. He also looks the muts nuts too. Not sure that I’d label him a CDM as he was one of the biggest threats on the pitch last night. He looks really good going forward.

I wouldn’t be so unkind as to call the opposition we had in America inferior, but teams out there are far less experienced. That said, it was nice to see that we spent most of the game last night in attack. Maybe Pardew’s onto something…
