Newcastle Confident Of Striker Signing In Next Few Days

Newcastle seem to have two long running sagas at the moment.

Mevlut Erdinc – arriving before the end of month?

One is with Jose Enrique, who has been wanting to leave the club, presumably ever since Andy Carroll was sold in January.

And the other is Newcastle trying to get Mevlut Erdinc on Tyneside from PSG, and that’s starting to be far too long and drawn out too.

But news in the local Newcastle press this morning, that Newcastle are increasingly confident they will have a new striker in by the end of the month.

Since today is the 28th, then that means by Sunday, so a deal may even be imminent.

Apparently agents have been contacting Newcastle about their clients being available, but the club have rebuffed those inquiries recently by saying they are close to a new striker signing.

Erdinc is still the Newcastle top priority,  but they have now handed the player a deadline in terms of making up his mind, and presumably that’s the end of this month.

Paris Saint Germain are in London to play Arsenal this weekend, so that could even be convenient to a deal.

But if Newcastle have to go too far in persuading the Turkish striker to come to Newcastle, that may not be too good either.

If no deal comes about, it seems that Jermain Defoe as the back-up choice is already a non-starter, with the Londoner simply unwilling to come to Newcastle.

So we wonder who Newcastle will then go after?

Comments welcome.

If another transfer window passes by with the cub making yet another net profit, what reaction can Padrew get from the fans if he tries to justify it again with his double meanings

You can only let someone leave if someone puts in an offer.

Various sources have said that Erdinc is due a bonus from PSG on August 1st is he’s still there. Surely, that has to be the reason for the delay. Of course, it could have been built into the negotiations, if they had any sense.

@Jail For Ashley – The way I see it alot of fans, including me, have been using this window as one last chance for the management.

If by Sept 1st the window has, as you say, passed us by I don’t think there will be any way back for some fans and there will be alot of anger in the north. Hopefully leading to a change in ownership.

However the blind optimist in me still hopes we’ll get a few quality players in before then.

Jail for ashley… another profitable transfer window… I cant wait for you to justify this one! This one we’ve spend more than has gone out, same last summer, same a year past january… the only one which has been profitable since we got relegated is January gone! I’m sick of people saying were making money in transfer windows!

@Roy Cropper – one club we’re competing with is Lille apparently, and I think the other one may be Galataseray.

Or there could be no other clubs. Hard to pick the facts from the rumours lol.

Why waste time on Erdinc…He does not want to leave and by persuafding him to come is wrong, a player should want to come on his free will!!

Personally i think it should be shane Long of Reading, worth every penny, great work rate, YES he is unproven in premier league but so was carroll and look at him now!

I see that Everton are trying to broker a deal to take Adam Johnson on loan from City, he would be immense for us on the right.

The one thing with Ashley holding the purse strings is that we are guaranteed to get value for money and we will never pay over the odd’s for players like we used to do and like most clubs are still doing today

Adam Johnson would be a good LOAN option. No chance we can afford to buy him.

But Guttierez looks far better on the right side, and we got Barton who can play there aswell… also Midfield is not a priority… would much rather bring in a striker and Left back and possibly a 20 yr old CB with lots of potential who we can mold into a mini colocini. Hair and all.

Striker options will be either Erdnic or Shane Long coming in, don’t know anything about Erdnic other than what I’ve seen on the Dennis Wise Scouting Forum, but Long would be a great signing for, either way if Graham Carr is the man behind it, I’m more than happy to trust his judgement

I’m not sure who said we have spent more in this window, but that is totally incorrect. Nolan =Cabeye at a basic level, the rest were frees (yes agents fees/etc but obvs those are factored into any transfer).

Those getting over-excited and saying we need only a striker and a LB are very naive, So Abeid played well against sub par opposition, as did Vuckic, does not mean they are ready for the PL!! We need 2 Strikers for sure.

If BA gets injured we are left with the usual Strolla/Best/Lover, do you really want that. We need:

    2 xStrikers
1left back (2 if Jose goes as we have no cover)
    Possible a CB cover.

surely this transfer saga with erdinc has gone on for to long if he doesn,t want to come move on.what is wrong with giving a player a couple of weeks only to make up his mind.every player offered a new contract by newcastle drags on for months .s.taylor barton and nolan and as for enrique this will he he or wont he stay.get rif of.erdnic is the third striker offers have been made to and still no further forward.nufc is a bigger club than these players and their agents so its time to prove it if you cant give an answer in 2 weeks then tough

@ 31 if your referring to my post 28.

Im speaking under the assumption that Pardew REALLY only targets 2 more new players…. If i had to choose between two strikers, or 1 striker and 1 left back.

Pretty obvious which 1 i would choose. Enrique’s departure is inevitable. I honestly think even if he stays this transfer window, we need a left back and we need him to settle to the pace of the EPL, so when Enrique does leave In jan/next summer the new left back is up to pace and ready to be first choice LB, rather then buying a left back and hoping he does a tiote in his first season.

Everything about Erdnic not wanting to come here is rubbish, the lad is due a massive loyalty bonus if he stay’s with PSG part August 1st. The clubs have been negotiating the free as the players agent is pushing for the bonus.
So its not a case of the player not wanting to come here, it’s a case of money as always
