Newcastle seem to have two long running sagas at the moment.
Mevlut Erdinc – arriving before the end of month?
One is with Jose Enrique, who has been wanting to leave the club, presumably ever since Andy Carroll was sold in January.
And the other is Newcastle trying to get Mevlut Erdinc on Tyneside from PSG, and that’s starting to be far too long and drawn out too.
But news in the local Newcastle press this morning, that Newcastle are increasingly confident they will have a new striker in by the end of the month.
Since today is the 28th, then that means by Sunday, so a deal may even be imminent.
Apparently agents have been contacting Newcastle about their clients being available, but the club have rebuffed those inquiries recently by saying they are close to a new striker signing.
Erdinc is still the Newcastle top priority, but they have now handed the player a deadline in terms of making up his mind, and presumably that’s the end of this month.
Paris Saint Germain are in London to play Arsenal this weekend, so that could even be convenient to a deal.
But if Newcastle have to go too far in persuading the Turkish striker to come to Newcastle, that may not be too good either.
If no deal comes about, it seems that Jermain Defoe as the back-up choice is already a non-starter, with the Londoner simply unwilling to come to Newcastle.
So we wonder who Newcastle will then go after?
