Alan Pardew will keep pressing his players to become super fit, ready for the first game of the Premier League season against Arsenal on August 13th.
Haris Vuckic – coming through at Newcastle?
The Newcastle squad should be returning to Newcastle from their American trip, and the whole squad will be training at Benton, with the Reserves having also just returned from their Holland tour.
Newcastle had one of their top players in Ben Arfa injured in the US, and he will be out for at least another four weeks, and also Ryan Taylor suffered a minor groin strain.
Newcastle drew the game at Sporting Kansas City, surprisingly were beaten 1-0 by Orlando City, and then the lads ripped the Columbus Crew apart 3-0, and it could have been even more.
Of course two key players for Newcastle, Joey Barton and Yohan Cabaye, were not on the tour having failed to get US visas, and Jose Enrique last Sunday criticized owner Mike Ashley via that Twitter account of his.
Newcastle play Arsenal two weeks on Saturday, and this is what manager lan Pardew said today:
“We really saw the good, the bad and the ugly on tour.
“But I’m pushing the players a bit harder than usual to make sure they are top of their game.”
The good has to be the Columbus win, the bad the Orlando City defeat, and the ugly must have been that Enrique tweet – or should that be twit?
The final game, the 3-0 win over Columbus Crew, was the highlight of the American tour which took place in soaring heat, and it’s still hot over here, with Raleigh, NC forecast to exceed 100 degrees F, both today and tomorrow.
And there were some good performances from a number of the Newcastle players at Columbus, including youngsters Golsing, Tavernier, Dummett and Haris Vukic, who scored a wonderful third goal for Newcastle just before the end of the game.
It will now be interesting to see what team Alan will start on Sunday afternoon at Leeds United.
What do you think the starting side will be?
