The Good, The Bad And The Ugly On American Tour

Alan Pardew will keep pressing his players to become super fit, ready for the first game of the Premier League season against Arsenal on August 13th.

Haris Vuckic – coming through at Newcastle?

The Newcastle squad should be returning to Newcastle from their American trip, and the whole squad will be training at Benton, with the Reserves having also just returned from their Holland tour.

Newcastle had one of their top players in Ben Arfa injured in the US, and he will be out for at least another four weeks, and also Ryan Taylor suffered a minor groin strain.

Newcastle drew the game at Sporting Kansas City, surprisingly were beaten 1-0 by Orlando City, and then the lads ripped the Columbus Crew apart 3-0, and it could have been even more.

Of course two key players for Newcastle, Joey Barton and Yohan Cabaye, were not on the tour having  failed to get US visas, and Jose Enrique last Sunday criticized owner Mike Ashley via that Twitter account of his.

Newcastle play Arsenal two weeks on Saturday, and this is what manager lan Pardew said today:

“We really saw the good, the bad and the ugly on tour.

“But I’m pushing the players a bit harder than usual to make sure they are top of their game.”

The good has to be the Columbus win, the bad the Orlando City defeat, and the ugly must have been that Enrique tweet – or should that be twit?

The final game, the 3-0 win over Columbus Crew,  was the highlight of the American tour which took place in soaring heat, and it’s  still hot over here, with Raleigh,  NC  forecast to exceed 100 degrees F,  both today and tomorrow.

And there were some good performances from a number of the Newcastle players at Columbus, including youngsters Golsing, Tavernier, Dummett and Haris Vukic, who scored a wonderful third goal for Newcastle just before the end of the game.

It will now be interesting to see what team Alan will start on Sunday afternoon at Leeds United.

What do you think the starting side will be?

This is what I’ve always wanted to see happen, great young players coming through the ranks.
The like’s of Vukic, Tavernier, Ferguson, Kadar and Sammy are the long term future of this club

I am happy that youngsters are coming through, its not all about going out and buying players for positions, why invest so much money in youth and not use them!?

Seriously though, there is a big difference between introducing youngsters into the team gently than having to rely on them.

I definitely think simmo’s going to have his hands full keeping his place against tavernier like, but its what we need, last season he could play crap and he would still get a game, we had no other right back

If Johnson is available for a loan deal, we need to be in there trying to get him in, the kid is class and would jump at a chance of coming here and it would nail down the right side of our midfield, but make sure there is an option to buy next season

jb he would be class for us but the price tag is going to be to high for us to pay its a shame we will miss out on future talent like johnson and sturridge just them 2 alone would make a hell of a difference to our team and they will be big internationals soon i know johnson plays a little for england now but he will be a starter soon enough whish we could buy young english players but ashley doesnt seem to want them cos of the price but shirt sales and the way they will strengthen the team will makes us finish higher and make him alot of money

Cant wait for the season to start and for the youngsters to prove their worth to Alan Pardew…expecting Vuckic,Tavernier,Abeid,Richardson and Ferguson to make their breakthrough season whilst others breaking into the first team squad aswell. Things are looking up HWTL 🙂

not as if they need the money is it 😉

Even getting him in on a season long loan would do me, the boy is a NUFC fan, and would give us so much

Problem with both Sturridge and Johnson is they’ve probably both been spoiled by huge wages at their current clubs.

Apparently Everton are trying to broker a deal, wages may be a stumbling block for them like, so we should nip in.

I would love him down the right for us

@Jack – it doesnt matter that Man City dont need the money like, they’ll want at least £15m for him. I think it was Boateng they bought, never played and then asked for more than they paid for him to sell him like.

I agree, Johnson is quality, but don’t we have a pretty packed midfield already?

With regards to the youngsters, surely if they’re good enough, they’re old enough. Isn’t the point of bringing players through that we don’t have to lash money up the wall on expensive imports, or get over charged for EPL experienced players?

I’d like to see Vuckic, Fergie, Abeid, Tavernier and Airey get a shot this coming season. There may be times when they’re called upon because there’s no alternative, but it worked pretty well last season with Krul and Fergie.

I think we’re starting to look pretty good. Now where’s that new striker???

7.5 now and 7.5 next summer?

RW lets us down in midfield really, there is only Jonas there with no cover.

Barton played there last season, but he is no winger.

Airey is being offered for loan, which will do the lad good. Hopefully the others, due to being in America, are now classed as first teamers!

Aye, I’d love it if Johnson played for us like but I don’t really see it happening. Its a case of MA probably won’t pay over £7m for a player these days.
