Now Cheick Tiote Has Visa Problem – What’s Going On?

1:24 pm, Friday, July 29th, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 418 Comments

Surprising news today that Cheick Tiote is the latest Newcastle United player to have a visa problem this summer.

Cheick Tiote – after scoring his only goal for Newcastle – so far

Cheick Tiote will not now be available for the friendly game at Leeds United on Sunday.

There is now real news on what the problem is although the Evening Chronicle is reporting it is red-tape problem about his visa, but that hardly tells us too much.

Tiote did not travel back to London with the rest of the squad but instead was on a plane to Accra in Ghana, where apparently the Ivory Coast Embassy is currently based.

Cheick’s job is to resolve whatever the problem is with his via, so again this seems just a little mystifying to us.

Tiote will be training while he is in Accra, until the problem with his visa is sorted out, so at least Tiote will keep himself at his current fitness level, and we’re not even sure if anybody from the club has accompanied him to Ghana, but we would think so.

Newcastle expect that Tiote will have everything sorted out by next weekend, and he will likely start the plum game against Italian club Fiorentina a week tomorrow.

That’s Newcastle’s final warm-up fame before meeting Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Saturday, 13th August, and we have to hope we’ll not be four goals down after 26 minutes in that game.

Comments welcome.

He share the same dentist as Cabaye?

Ed! 3 articles in about 20 minutes! Man on a mission today?

  • 3 rich // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:29 PM

Surely a “business” such as Newcastle United Football Club, that deals with employing players with different nationalities would hire someone to sort out visa issues. I’m getting fed up of stupid mistakes making our beloved football club look ridiculous!!

  • 4 bosamuelson // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:30 PM

None of this would have happened if Big Sam Allerdyce was manager. He would have hired 6 staff members to make sure visa’s were sorted even before stepping South of the Tyne!

  • 5 Dannyo // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:30 PM

Who is responsible for sorting the players Visas is my question….
    Could it be Lee Charnley?

  • 6 Andy // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:31 PM

It doesn’t make sense him not being allowed to England. Surely his working visa will cover him for the 6 years of his contract no?

  • 7 Klatoon // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:32 PM

Might be an expired passport, same problem Hearts’ David Obua had earlier this week

  • 8 WWJBD // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:36 PM

Haha I love supporting NUFC at times ever interesting to say the least…….how many other clubs have this constant stream of crap happening to them?!

  • 9 Twatter // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:36 PM

Absolute joke, both USA for the ridiculous over regulation, and clubs oversight and sheer lack of thought into the possible barriers they would get when seeking to train in the most paranoid country in the world

  • 10 ToonAndy // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:36 PM

Juan Matas available for as little as 13.5 million ??? He is one hell of a player!

  • 11 NUFC_Richyg01 // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:37 PM

Cant see it being a big deal, like Klatoon(7) says, probably an expired (or expiring) Passport

  • 12 rich // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:37 PM

I think you have to have at least 6 months left on your passport to go to America.

  • 14 Eastander // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:41 PM

I’m sure it will get sorted but slightly more worrying than barton and cabaye’s, theres were for a country where we were playing 3 games and there for a week and a half, tiote’s is for the country we play in every weekend!

  • 15 JAMSHA // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:42 PM

Would love mata. £13mill to cheap . Fat m.a cn sell him for profit n 2yrs

  • 16 WWJBD // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:44 PM

Where did you hear Mata is avaliable for 13mill? Pretty sure it was 20mill less than a week ago

He would also want better than what we can offer so no point in even bidding for him

  • 17 Jawdboy // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:45 PM

Its African Cup of Nations at end of year (we lose Tiote for about amonth…?) Perhaps something to do with that

  • 19 NUFC_Richyg01 // Jul 29, 2011 at 1:52 PM

Arsenal hope to seal a £34million double swoop for Valencia winger Juan Mata and Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

So if you think that Mata is available for £13m, then that means that Jagielka is £21m!?
    NO WAY
I would say its nearer £20M for Mata and £14m for Jagielka

Arsenal are well down the road with their blueprint, they have been following it for a long time now, whereas with us, it is in its infancy.

Arsenal went through similar to us, recruiting a few bargains to keep them ticking over, along with some shrewd investments in youth.

They are now seeing the fruits of that, they have players who they can sell on for £40m+ and they have a sizable amount of funds built up to enable them to go out and make purchases.

There are so many on here who want us to run before we can walk again!

  • 39 boater // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:08 PM

NuFC RichyG – you do talk some blather man..

Arsenal are doing everything they can to keep their top, salable players… We sold £35mil worth of player. Your entire argument seems to be based on things that haven’t happened justifying those that have… somewhere between naive and dreaming. i.e. reaching a rainbow’s end utopia where Ashley suddenly starts spending. He won’t and there is nothing in his actions to suggest he will…

Keith Harris’ comments were a telling insight- Ashley bought the club to make 52,000 friends… when those friends turned against him – he vowed to recoup his losses, in preparation for a buy out..

nothing he has done has been aimed at the interests of the supporters, quite the opposite… wake the funk up.

  • 40 Angryman the Angry fan // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:08 PM

Here I go, Ill show you how much arsenal spend on average per season shall i for the last 8 years or so!!
    03/04 20m
    04/05 6m
    05/06 37m
    06/07 14m
    07/08 31 m
    08/09 16m
    09/10 15m
    10/11 11m

Okay, so you can say that we are following the Arsenal blueprint, and even theought these figures prove otherwise, Id like to point out that Arseanl have always bought good quality decent players at a price lower than their value, because they know that payiong for qaulity gets them somewhere!! Never gamble, and never signinjury prone players ;-)….for nothing!!!!

  • 43 Andy // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:15 PM

I think we’re following the arsenal 04/05 blue print .. haha
Also arsenal have sold a lot of their top players over the years. Overmars petit vieira henry Ashley Cole. Not that i think we’re following it just putting it out there

  • 44 OttersPocket // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:16 PM

Arsenal are in a position to buy higher quality players as they are in the champions league year in year out, so whatever the strategy is their budget would be a lot bigger than ours, yes the make maybe 1 big signing each season but they tend to base their recruitment policy on young untested players.

  • 45 cousto // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:17 PM

    got a spine sh*tbird.
Rather than come on here opening my mouth and letting my stomach rumble, or shouting down fans who don’t share your neggy views why don’t you sell your “business” and buy the club?
Do that or change your name to “NeggyFullOfSh*tMan”

  • 46 boater // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:17 PM

The general rationale of the pro-ashley brigade seems to be this – every unpopular sale, sacking, refusal to spend on transfer fees, etc.. will be justified when the season starts and the new look team all impress. What, heaven forbid if we see a repeat of 2 seasons ago when supporters are so vexed, players are failing to deliver and the club struggle for results… it’s possible…

If that happens then we what will a failure to invest look like in retrospect? Unforgivable…

if we went bloody down you will all be saying ‘well this time we are prepared financially to handle a season in the championship – could be worse could be leeds”,,,, blah blah… not good enough.

  • 47 bosamuelson // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:19 PM

Angry Man, Arsenal have been consistently in the Champions league for the last however many years and won the odd title along the way. They also have a somewhat stronger pulling power than we do currently.

If you scale down what Arsenal are doing and have been doing in the last decade or so then you get what we are doing/trying to do now.

The sums you posted are also payed out on one or two players. That is the quality players you are talking about. We are in no position to do that both financially or reputationally (if there is such a word)

And they are a selling club when a rediculous offer comes i for their player or when a player wants to leave. Fabregas is the exception due to his unique worth on the pitch and in the financial aspect.

It is the beginnings of the blue print you refer to. Alternatively it is a sensible way of going about the football business!

  • 48 Angryman the Angry fan // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:19 PM

    Tyneside, CORRECT!!
Cheap buys sold at profit!! Regardless of quality or functionality…” bought cheap on account of the damage to the product ” sell it on to the local mugs who actually think they are getting a bargain, there’ll always be the odd t!t who will believe shout form the rooftops, hey this shop is great, come on waste your money here!!! Whilst the owners cream and cream and cream and say, but we’re only selling it for thelove of the public, we dont make any money!!! slippoing the odd 5m into the back pocket….

  • 49 OttersPocket // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:19 PM

Van Persie misses around 10-15 games every year, Vermalen missed all last season, Walcott is constantly picking up knocks, Rosicky missed alot of games since they signed him so your point on them never signing injury prone players is factually incorrect.

  • 50 gazza going fishing // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:19 PM

Angryman the Angry fan – You have backed you arguement up with facts. NuFC RichyG – Your’s does seem to be more head in the sky, and FACT’s do run against you mate.

It’s like saying we have bought the new Iniesta in Cabaye. He is simulor but no where near as good.

The blue print’s are the same, like a cheaper, poor mans version.

Anyway i am happy so far, it’s the season’s after this one, when transfers will start looking pear shaped.

  • 51 Andy // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:20 PM

what happens if it all works out with this team and we finish top 8? That could also happen. Why bother debating hypotheticals? It doesn’t strengthen yours or anyones argument

  • 52 Tyneside // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:20 PM

  • 53 boater // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:20 PM

I have no problem with it personally, they are young and not exactly past it

  • 56 Angryman the Angry fan // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:23 PM

    bosamualson,
never ever have i said the club should not be run as a business…I am 100% for that!! 100% for that!! But i am 100% also behind running a football team, because without the team you have no business, the more successfull the team the more successful the business, okay, but this bunch want to turn a profit, whthere the team is successfull or not, as long as they turn a profit, they will be chuffed!!! Its a blatant fact!!

  • 57 Andy // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:24 PM

Tyneside they did. But they didn’t spend the money all the money they got. It’s a bit irrelevant though was just pointing out the arsenal model which some people think we are following also sells players

  • 58 cousto // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:24 PM

I agree we need a good striker, Erding might be that, Sturridge is not, too expensive and unproven.
In all honesty I think Johan Elmander would have been a good buy.
We need to get rid of Jose if he doesn’t want to be here and get M’Bengue or an established LB and we need to bring in some of the youngsters like Vuckic, Abeid, Airey, etc before they get bored and move on.
Midfield is sound, defence (for the 1st time in years) looks good, and the strikers just need to sharpen up.
Still 30 odd days to go so I’m staying positive that the deals will be done in time.

  • 59 OttersPocket // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:25 PM

    boater

Regardless of the money we got, as a club we are not in a postion to buy the quality players, yes I agree we do need a couple more players, I’m not saying the squad now is complete or ready to challenge top 8 but its a gradual process.
1 year ago we were a newly promoted team who would of been happy with finishing 17th, we now are getting players in to take us to the next level of finishing top half. You have to walk before you can run.

  • 60 gazza going fishing // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:25 PM

  • 62 boater // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:26 PM

Andy – we could finish top ! Hey champions… woo hoo without spending a precious penny..

It’s you who is dealing squarely in hypotheticals, I am saying everything is possible, therefore with money available let’s invest some of it to ensure the worst cast doesn’t come to pass..

EVEN IF we are ok and hovering around the mid table slots, or 8th as you say,, what would some bold investment in a top striker or 2 have meant … possibly a european place…

Have a word with yourselves, you are living in a little bubble, justifying not spending any money – when every other club in the world throughout the history of time has never done this and been successful as a result… PLUS we brought in £35mil FFS!!! am I mad here?

  • 63 OttersPocket // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:26 PM

  • 64 Eastander // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:27 PM

Seems we are a club run by a bunch of amatures, who think they have it covered.
They are so smug in their sense of assuredness they know better than those who have been in the business all their lives.
And convinced they have discovered a new approach to the game.
The US trip was a disaster, with an injurie to Ben Arfa, our best player, the extent as yet unknown, at least we hav’nt heard any recent news, which may not be good.
A typical screwup, with players missing due to inatention to detail, expensive and to areas known for high summer temperatures, Hey ! go figure.
With this trio of Ashley, Llambis and Walkie talkie, running things(well actually probably the only thing Pardew runs is his mouth)what hope is there, for this club ?

Even after all the crap weve put up with from the rotund treble chinned cockney and his sidekick the tawny owl,if he really put his hand in his pocket, then it would go a long way to appease the fans.
Alas its gone much to far for that, and until he leaves we are stuck with cheap signings some of which are good mind you,and a second rate manager with a face full of jellied eels.

Get you heads out of imaginary league table finishes and Ashley’s whinnying about the funking arsenal model for a second…

you are failing to recognise the psychological impact of zero-net-spend

when we went down it was an unbelievable reflection of the squad – owen, viduka, martins, s taylor, barton, duff, coloccini, gutierrez… for shilting sake that’s a side pushing for europe in any sane world..

it was the fans and players who had lost their belief… animosity built upon around the owner..

A funking CHORUS of players and ex-players, managers, key personnel have referred to serious unease amongst the players… the fans are questioning what’s happened to the money brought in… and that is exactly setting up a climate for a repeat of 3 seasons ago I worry…

if we get off to a ropey start, players heads go down will you still be talking about reaching financial sound footing? or longterm plans… nope you will be cacking your britches like me wondering why we failed to spend when we had the chance…

get in dann, replace enrique and a worthy striker, plus a couple of carr’s jewels and we’ll be set.

your right, midfield is sound, defence just need CB cover i reckon (dann) and a decent replacement for enrique, then focus on the bloody striker.
i think all this arsenal blueprint melarky by the way is true, and we are going about it the right way… for the past few seasons angry man, your stats showed that arsenal didnt spend more than 15million… we’ll spend about the same this season i imagine. and yeah, we’re not getting the same quality and we want to see the club to spend big to show ambition etc but let have these discussions come sept 1st huh? for weeks now we’ve had the “pessimists v the optimists” and its getting as bad as the whole gervinho saga! sick of hearing it like!

how much of the 35mil has been spent from the Carroll sale? Yes we still have a few weeks left in the window, but how much will be put back in the club? The same goes when Enrique is sold and players such as Tiote.

I dont know, everyone is fascinated with it this year, all because we sold 1 player for an extortionate fee and they think the money is burning a hole in our pocket.

My interest is players in the squad and on the pitch, money does not come into it.

Notice, on my list of transfers, I did not include fees, coz they are irrellivant really.

Does the price tag make a better player – No!

  • 116 bosamuelson // Jul 29, 2011 at 2:58 PM

Woodsee, I don’t get your argument. We will be stuck with a bunch of cheap signings, oh yea and some of them are good!

Err, that is a bad thing?!

Angryman I can certainly understand why you would think that that is the case. But most businesses are run on a buy something and turn it into something that is worth more.

I do not get the problem with that. We as fans get to see the players perform for our team. I think only if stupid money comes in or a player wants to leave will the board sell.

Ok, lets say a club offered 8m for Steven Taylor. If they sold him, I would be very annoyed. This would be because 1 he does not want to leave! 2 he has a contract 3 8m is probably what he is worth (he is also English remember it adds a mil or two).

The sale of Carrol was perfectly justifiable. Purely because of the money involved.

Nolan too, it is not worth the money the contract he was asking for (if rumors are to be believed).

Why would the board want the team to do crap and lose money by paying players well over the odds.

I have to say I am extremely happy as a Newcastle fan at the moment. I think we are ahead of the times to be honest. Clubs without billionaire’s, Arsenal and Man U will be truly struggling in the not too distant future.

We will be doing OK the next couple of years and very good following that.

    You will see :)

I have a feeling ashleys personal account wont hold massive amounts of cash, a lot will be assets. If he sold sports direct he could pump massive amounts into the club if he so wanted but he cant just transfer funds over to Newcastle without paying justified sums to himself first

  • 135 bosamuelson // Jul 29, 2011 at 3:14 PM

    @ 120 Realist, I like that! ;)

I dont get it why people think that Ashley, regardless of what he thinks of us as fans or NUFC as a club, why he would try and do it wrong or cheat it.

It is HIS club, HIS money etc., etc., why on earth would he run it in to the ground by ripping money out of it.

Think about it. He has more money to know what to do with. We are talking billions. that is 1000 million. Why do you think he is going to rip of his own company for what in his terms is actually pocket money. It makes no sense.

The only other person I would like to see as the owner of NUFC is the fans in a Barca like set up. But with all the will in the world that is never going to happen.

To get where he is it takes a huge amount of effort, calculated risk, hard work, etc. etc. He is at the end of the day a very clever and shrewd man.

Not only that, he can not get to where he is by having a losing mentality. He has a character trait, like a lot of successful people, for being successful. He will make NUFC a success. Certainly to the point where we are competing for silverware.

If you generally think he is trying to rip of a coupe of quid here and there from transfers and your season tickets then you are absolutely fool hardy.

Sorry but it is true. Wake up!

here’s a question then, not saying its the plan of the club but… pardew said he’s looking at the cups this year, Birmingham won the league cup last year! We should be able to beat the likes of those teams and if one of the top 6 wins it they will be in europe anyway.
You cant attract big names to clubs unless you spend over the top amounts of money or are in europe… fact!

So… would people rather we went after something like the league cup with the squad we have now and a decent financial model, then IF we get into europe through the cup we will have more money and european football to attract players without paying over the odds to try and get into the top 6

Or go spending crazy amounts trying to chase the likes of liverpool, fail and end up in a worse financial situation than we started with, have players who dont want o be here on stupid salary’s and end up having to sell themfor half what we bought them for

  • 159 Dannyo // Jul 29, 2011 at 3:35 PM

To those who say we dont spend money:

Including transfers in and out since MA’s arrival at the club, we are currently at £35 million earned from transfers. Which means ever penny we had in, we’ve spent, ON TRANSFERS.
This means, it’s only the sale of Carroll who now keeps us on the plus side. Without that, we’d have zero money to spend.
That is a fact. I’ll even show the math if u nag me enough.

  • 160 tiotal football // Jul 29, 2011 at 3:36 PM

@113 the whole point of having Sports direct on our stadium is that Ashley can use sports direct money by investing in NUFC through that sponsorship deal.

It’s what citeh will do next year to get around the new UEFA fair play finance stuff. And also is a way to use some sports direct money to help the toon.

I may be wrong in this but I’m pretty sure the shareholders of sports direct wouldn’t be overjoyed if all there profits were used to help out a football club they have no links to….

    @ 162 –

“When we were relegated you would of said the same thing.” Uh, no I wouldn’t have. More nonsense. Please, do not think or speak for me.

“…but what does that do on the pitch.”Yet more. One begets the other my friend.

“…he’ll keep on selling.’ Really? Just as long as he keeps on buying.

Look, at this time last year or even in the Jan window, if you would have said NUFC would go out, sign the players we need on a cheap (we’re not done yet) and bed them in, any Toon fan would have killed for that. I mean we’ve done the MOST business of anyone out there! Yet people find a way to complain or harp on about MA.

I want more plays of the right kind to come in, but FFS people, calm down, stop with the doom and gloom mongering and judge them in August.

everyone thinks HBA is world class – this on less than 300mins of football in B&W
It will be interseting to see how the other untried players cope with the hussle and bustle of the EPL.

It leaves us with Barton and Guthrie ….. same as last season – no creativity or pace

  • 221 Felipe // Jul 29, 2011 at 4:23 PM

  • 222 WWJBD // Jul 29, 2011 at 4:25 PM

Yeah true but we have Ba who looked very good last season for West Ham just got to keep his knee ship shape. Shola is good at hold up play and is decent in the air. Loven is a grafter and is accurate when gets shots away plus Best looked good just as long as he stays fit.

And we have been promised another striker to come in

I agree we arent the strongest but I think we are better than you are giving us credit for just my opinion though

  • 223 ITUNDERASHELL // Jul 29, 2011 at 4:26 PM

Why are there some many negative people on this site!
Ashley has stated he wants the club to be finacially sound and self sustaining, don’t you want the club to be self sustaining?
The plan is to buy quality as cheap as possible, whats wrong with that? To build a fantastic squad of young talent to replace our present players and probably future purchases as well, and what is wrong with that?
You have the opportunity to buy yous season tickets at current price for the next 10 years and what is wrong with that?
Barcelona played with a kid in the team called Thiago he is 20 years old and a product of their academy he’s probably valued at 40-50 million and what is wrong with that?
Can we build a youth set up like Barcelona or Arsenal, yes we can and what is wrong with that?

  • 224 Felipe // Jul 29, 2011 at 4:26 PM

I am not basing it on HBA fella.

Gosling has played PL before and was good. Barton is a proven player as is Tiote. Then you have Cabaye Vuckic and HBA on top of that who could all play very well

Also have Gutti who is a very solid winger and grafts more than anyone gives him credit for.

I cant think of many other midfields I would rather have than ours

Shola has played 236 matches for us scoring 48 goals. 1 in 5. Only once has he scored double figures in a single season (10) and that was in the Championship.

  • 255 Felipe // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:06 PM

No I don’t think he fulfilled his potential. His early days were hampered by our then policy of splashing the cash on hasbeens instead of bringing through the youth like we do now. He had 5-10 mins a game for the first couple of seasons and then he’s had bad luck with injuries that have held him back. But I’d still rather have him as a 3rd or 4th striker than anyone outside the top 4.

  • 256 whitbytoonwallsend // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:06 PM

Seems to me that if we buy cheap and young players then Fat Cashley will get his money back and hopefully quickly sell the club to a descent owner.

  • 258 OttersPocket // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:14 PM

    Felipe

Shola has been made out to be some sort of scapegoat.
He has suffered a lot with injuries and a lot of his appearances have either been from bench or been brought off early, under Souness he played a lot on left wing. As a 3/4 choice striker im happy with him.
He seems to be a confidence player as well and it cant help when fans are on his back after 1 bad touch/pass.

@Felipe- SBR played him then because he was young and had the world at his feet. The potential was there, hell he started for the U21′s for a while. But he never quite got there. SBR liked giving young players a chance, he even signed Carl Cort. If we were lucky enough to still have SBR as manager I promise you Shola would not be starting up front for us.

  • 273 CynicalasEva // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:31 PM

Otters – there you go again – your opinion is better than anyone elses because you watch a lot of football.

If you look at how many minutes he has played against how many minutes he has been injured I would imagine that even you must admit he has got a shit injury record for us.

  • 274 Hoovernose // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:34 PM

Whatever way you look at it would you like to fight Shola or Demba in the chippie? Imagine you are a defender in the chippie and half way through they do a tag team on you. Genius!

  • 275 barryvenison // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:37 PM

Well you should all shed a tear for Shola this Christmas as he will only have 6 months left on his current deal and at 30 years old he won’t be offered a new deal. If Ashley can get money for him he’ll sell or just let the 6 months rundown on his deal.

  • 276 Hoovernose // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:40 PM

He’ll get another year or two.

  • 277 Hoovernose // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:43 PM

barryvenison would you be happy if he scored 10 goals this season. Would you give him a new contract?

  • 278 dave 1961 // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:43 PM

NUFC_Richyg01 yes your right we are two separate company’s apart from we get no advertising revenues from sports direct, so they are leaching £30m from our free advertising, yet at the same time they get this free advertising their profits go through the roof not notice a slight anomaly in that.

  • 279 Andy // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:44 PM

there profits going through the roof has little do to with the marketing on our stadium and more to do with last year being a world cup year. All the major sport retailers get profit booms in these years

  • 280 Smooth moves Shola // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:46 PM

  • 281 barryvenison // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:51 PM

I’d be happy with that return. I suppose I’d offer him a one year extension. I would have given Nolan and Barton a new contract this year that’s for certain. I’d rather we reinvested money earned from player sales on new better strikers though.

  • 282 dave 1961 // Jul 29, 2011 at 5:54 PM

WWJBD your 100% wrong Newcastle football club have never reverenced as much as 1p off sports direct and nufc paid £50,000 for all the artwork. that’s the facts.

  • 283 GeordieTwo // Jul 29, 2011 at 6:05 PM

On a different note watched Aston Villa vs Blackburn yesterday. Villa looks very old but moved the ball well and defended well. Blackburn look like they were trying to play carpet football but don’t have the players and will probably struggle again this season. Villa are getting Zog probably which will improve them. Seeing McLeish on their sideline looked really strange. We should be able to beat either of those sides although Villa looked well organized on defense.

  • 284 barryvenison // Jul 29, 2011 at 6:05 PM

@280- Very true mate, free advertising. Just like Ashley selling our kit cheaper at SportsDirect than he does in the club shop. We should all know by now where his priorities lie.

  • 285 solano // Jul 29, 2011 at 6:14 PM

Boater (46) “The general rationale of the pro-ashley brigade seems to be this – every unpopular sale, sacking, refusal to spend on transfer fees, etc.. will be justified when the season starts and the new look team all impress. What, heaven forbid if we see a repeat of 2 seasons ago when supporters are so vexed, players are failing to deliver and the club struggle for results… it’s possible…” Answer: it will be the “neggers” fault for creating a poisonous atmosphere around St. James’s and not backing our wonderful owner and his invest no money masterplan! They have an answer for everything

  • 286 Hoovernose // Jul 29, 2011 at 6:14 PM

barryvenison Well I hope the big lads get twenty between em. As far as Nolan is concerned I think that was a good move for the team. I think Pards wants to rebuild the team and Cabeye for me is better in the long run. He has created a new start with fresh young players in the midfield. I hope we sign Erdinc as I think he will thrive with all the other young lads. It will take a season or two, but I have to say it makes perfect sense. Rome was not built by mcalpines.

Howay Ashley knockers! NUFC is a Big Business. It doesn’t matter who owns it! A lot of the people that can see the ground or even the town from where they live are getting sh==ted. That’s because they are on benefits. They probably wont even be on this site with a voice because they can’t afford the internet. The country is f==d especially the North East. Think about the money! Than it’s a moot discussion! I like the direction we are heading in and the style of football we are going to be playing. I just wish we’d really push this striker (erding) through!!! I wanted him in before the Leeds clash, but that isn’t going to happen as it does look like it will be after the 1st of August cos of his greedy agent

  • 320 gonz // Jul 29, 2011 at 8:07 PM

Any player that cost money whether it was a transfer fee or a weekly fee and didn’t give enough back on the pitch can be included as shockers. Unlucky for Kuqi cos it wasn’t his fault, but it was a bad decision bringing a player in that couldn’t contribute. We would’ve been better playing are youth or reserve players in that case…

  • 331 ITUNDERASHELL // Jul 29, 2011 at 9:45 PM

NUFC90, thats precisely the way I hope we go by expanding our scouting and academy systems and loaning out players to gain play time against men and not boy’s.
Udinese’s problem is it cannot generate capital through gate receipts, we can as we get 50,000 bums on seats every other week so as long as we continue to produce players of quality or Carr spots a Tiote, Ba, Adeib, Gosling, Cabaye, Marveaux, Habib Ben Afra we should end up each season well in the black.
Once our debt has been cleared off we could then expand the ground, improve our academy or develop a feeder club, Gatehead would be nice or buy an essential player to take us a level or how about reducing the season ticket prices.

  • 332 solano // Jul 29, 2011 at 9:46 PM

Davyb……the debate is about quality and strength in depth and we lack in both. This summer was supposed to be about investing and taking the next step. I don’t see us being any stronger than we were last season and we are taking another almighty gamble. Of coure we have some quality still left – but 2 of those (Enrique and Barton) have been isolated and are ready for the door. The legacy of four years of Ashley is a relegation and a transformation into an unambitious also ran who are not willing to invest and build. That is why we are reduced to a small time provincial rivalry with Dunderland who have undoubtedly closed a once huge gap between the clubs. This is due, not to their progress, but to our demise. There is a reason why the Mackem b*stards call him Agent Ashley – they can see what you can’t!
And when the chickens come home to roost, you and Shola, who asks what to do next, will realise we can’t move forward at all with a bloke who has no interest in making lasting progress on the pitch. The only way is to hound this FCB out once and for all, instead of feeding the monster with more money and blind hope.
As for KK, I don’t propose any 4th Coming but anyone with as much passion and love for our club should be welcomed with open arms for any contribution he could make in our future (Life President, Board Member, whatever)

Angry has just touched on my next point. We protest, that means a lot more of MA in print, on TV and consequently Sports Direct, what he loses in tickets, merchandise etc, he could gain back from the marketing those actions brings to the wider world, who don’t give a rat’s arse about NUFC.

Angry just because people don’t agree with you, don’t mean where all batty boys haha.

Look lads we have a canny little squad, there is much worse in the prem, i’m not saying we are the most ambitious club in the world, but Ashley isn’t that bad.

We are developing a good little academy, and yungin’s are now getting there chances.

Vuckic, Sammi, Ferguson, Abeid, Lua Lua (At brighton) are all getting first team football.

In my opinion younger players who have something to prove, and have time to develop, is better than signing a load of ‘has beens’ anyway.

Angry and Solono.. No one likes Ashley, we all know what he is like, but he isn’t an evil banker like you’s make him out to be haha.

When WWJBD and Stuart come on, they agree to Ashley is no good, but all agree there is nothing we can do about it, and to be honest where not in a bad situation, or suffering in order to something.

I second that question Angry, are you a football fan? you have good points, but i never hear you talk about the team mate? ( i’m not having ago before you stream be with abuse ;) ).

Ok Shola….I didn’t mean to offend, merely to provoke. Right, as it is we are losing our own self respect by implicitly feeding the monster. And we are dying a slow death…..there is at present a steady decrease in attendances anyway and these are not the fairweather supporters the rose-tinters would have you believe – they are totally disillusioned ex-hardcore fans. No real concerted, organises protest has been put up against these w*nkers. A start would be to make his North East Shops the least profitable by a visible and sustained boycott campaign. Also a total block on buying official club strips and merchandise, in-ground beverages and pies, and boycott on Shearer’s bar etc A sustained protest inside and outside the ground, home and away. A visible internet petition campaign appealing to fans across the world with endorsements from disaffected former clubmen, players and (genuine) celebrities) A high profile campaign to spread the word to look for ambitious, passionate rich investors who are willing to a have their name revered in perpetuity by making the club genuinely successful. A start?

I agree Ashly seems somewhat deceitful and there should be more money spent on transfers even though i dont condone frees as good players can be acquired, e.g. if enrique and barton stay another year before saying goodbyes and we got them from another team would you be pissed off ??

I heard everton got out bidded for 100,000 the other day, not THAT is something to worry about.

    My team for Arsenal:

    Simpson Taylor Collocini M’bengue

    Jonas Gosling Tiote Marvaux

    Vuckic

    Ba

Bring Cabaye on for Gosling at half time. I think Cabaye will be more affective when the game opens up in the second half.

  • 385 solano // Jul 29, 2011 at 11:45 PM

Ok Gazza…of course the football team matters but the big picture of ownership/investment dominates what is sent out onto the pitch. The off-season is the time to deal and discuss in such matters because when the football is being played there are other short term things that can dominate. I think we have a decent midfield, a poor pool of forwards and are lacking in depth and quality at the back (obviously lb and less obviously cb). On our day, we could put out a decent team but scratch the surface and when injuries occur, you will find a lot of the same old average talent that we are stuck with. A lack of goals may haunt us.
I was trying to be positive there ;-)

  • 386 gazza going fishing // Jul 29, 2011 at 11:45 PM

mattnufc – You think Gosling can play in the hole? food for thought on that one lad’s.

  • 387 ITUNDERASHELL // Jul 29, 2011 at 11:48 PM

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Cabeye and Ben Arfa were full French internationals and Marveaux is there or there abouts and if he has a good season with us he will also be a full French international.
Lee Ryder who watched our friendlies over the pond also stated” Gosling is a full England international in the making if ever I saw one”.
Tiote, Ba, Collo and Guiterez are full internationals, we also have players like Fergerson, Abeid, Vuckic, Amiobi, Dummit and Tavernier pushing for squad places.
I also believe/hope Shola will learn and work hard with Ba and draw inspiration from him.As for Erdinc if he signs, he is a full Turkish International and will add a new dimension to our play.
Oh and I forgot to mention Barton who if he wasn’t so self opinionated and head strong would have been a full England International.
Have the club spent any money yet, the clever sod, no wonder he is a billionaire.

Solono – Yes mate, but if we allow our youngsters to play, we will have that deph, it is risky, and not everyone’s cup of tea, but if we pulled it off we wouldn’t have to depend on fat Ashley.

But i do agree without forwards, even our youngsters cannot salvage us, we NEED at least 2 forwards in my opinion. Ba, Best and Ameobi make good back-up, especially in comparison to other teams out of the top 6.

There that was all i wanted lol, now i know Solono is a true football fan, with good opinion’s and views.

  • 391 Smooth moves Shola // Jul 29, 2011 at 11:53 PM

Solano, that’s a great template, but right now everyone is eagerly anticipating the start of the season and I think the vast majority wouldn’t participate, until they at least see a plateau in league finishes.

We finish 7/8th next season, and most us fans will be more jolly than we have being for a while.

What we should really do if we loved the club so much, is try and get 50’000 fans from around the world, to try and save 5k each, over the next 5 years. Then buy our own club, that would be bliss. 20 squid a week. deposited into some secure, icer type fund (not sure how that would work). Are we capable? Are our fans all they’re cracked up to be? Or when push comes to shove, are most just casual footy fans with big gobs who like to shout from the stands?

That would be taking true responsibility for our own fate.

  • 392 solano // Jul 30, 2011 at 12:02 AM

Look Gazza, I know what you are trying to say, but my experience of watching youngsters being hoyed in at the deep end at NUFC are not pleasant memories – I remember some great football at the foot of the old 2nd Division which cost me my hair.
And Lua Lua who you mentionesd is away on loan with a view to a permanent move in Jan. To approach a season with possibly no proven leftback is crazy! Surely with Jose’s inevitable departure we should be blooding a new arrival right now?
No investment, bad vibes and a bad start could escalate things quicker than you think into a relegation struggle like 3 years ago – that awful scenario can’t be blamed, like some are already implying, on people like Angry or myself, but on the total lack of a sensible strengthening policy

  • 393 solano // Jul 30, 2011 at 12:10 AM

Shola -it was tried by Liverpool and failed + you don’t have a transfer fund as such. For it to work it would have to be done in partnership with benefactors who have real financial clout and collateral. But I like the way you are beginning to think!
I also thought of having a huge support travelling to away games (peacefully) regardless of ticket allocations. Just imagine – a nice jollyboys away without the pain of watching Danny Guthrie trying a dragback? (remember West Brom last season? Ooh!)

    bosamuelson // Jul 29, 2011 at 3:14 PM

Wake up!

I know it was a while ago but awk well!

A success for you and us supporters will be completely different what he classifys as success. His would be making money, the way to make money is buy and sell players, hence why all the free transfers. He sold Carroll for such a huge profit and as you said he doesn’t need the money, yet we have seen very little on transfer fees so far so that could be the only reason, that he is out for a profit. Thats my view on it, I hope to be proved wrong.

  • 395 gorskino10 // Jul 30, 2011 at 12:17 AM

    solano@

True, when everyone is on form/fit we could have a very good side, but knowing our Injuries of 8/10 most times in the year, It will be/ or rare to see out best 11 out there, and with the lack of depth its slightly worrying, most of our sub bench (Ranger/Fergie/Kadar/Vuckic/Airey/Richardson) None have many Apps at all, most have less than 5, apart from Ranger but he has only started 1 game.

Not saying there bad but having untested Youngsters, is a gamble, could play good/amazing or have a game you label them as being Naive Because of Lack of games/age etc..

On another note why are we still trying to buy Erdinc, decent player but he aint no Gamiero, why bother sticking out necks out for a guy who doesn’t want to come here, We should move on before its too late and we panic buy on TDDay.

People on here have slated NUFC over alot of years for not letting our youngsters get a chance, but are happy when we pay good money for players who keeps the youngsters out of a chance. Yet when we don’t pay loads of money for players and we look to the youth they still winge. Youth is the future of not only NUFC but football in general, whether you like MA or not that is our future take it or leave it.I’m B&W and I’ll take it.

Warwick Hunt it has to be a balance though doesn’t it? I think we will need some experienced hands over the next 2 or 3 years as well. That is why I am frustrated Joey has not been offered a contract extension. He will be 33 in 4 years time so why not offer him a decent contract to take him out to 2015? We have sold Nolan and I would argue that was the correct move with his lack of pace. But keep Barton and keep Colo past his contract expiry. As for youth I’m all for it in small doses. I like the look of Ferguson and Tavernier and Gosling. They should definitely get some minutes this season. But not much more than that.

  • 400 Warwick Hunt // Jul 30, 2011 at 1:00 AM

Yes it is a blance and you must bring youth into a winning team otherwise the confidence can be lost but you give good kids a chance and they will grasp it and we have good kids in there and I would hate to see them leave coz they had no chance of getting into the first team.

Can’t understand why we pass up quality time and time again. Well…thanks to MA, quality tends to pass us US.

  • 404 pizzicatochan // Jul 30, 2011 at 1:36 AM

  • 405 OttersPocket // Jul 30, 2011 at 1:37 AM

Serious question for the likes of angry, solano etc.
Do you actually want the team to do well or do you want them to struggle just so you can come on and say I told you so?
I can understand the negativity towards ashley but you never mention anything positive towards the team/players. It’s not all doom and gloom, hopefully we start well and maybe we can see some positivity from you?

  • 406 pizzicatochan // Jul 30, 2011 at 1:40 AM

@GeordieTwo, as we have seen, the young lads are capable. I am not saying experience is not important, but I think we are not going for people who are experienced but expensive.

The squad doesn’t talk about the success. The result does. Just gotta pay more tribute and support to the young guys.

P.S. Tavernier and Dummett may be valuable to us this year. Just please wait and see. And I can’t quit thinking of Lee Toland being our new left-back.

  • 407 pizzicatochan // Jul 30, 2011 at 1:43 AM

@OttersPocket, very unfortunately, you gotta know that they are Ashley-haters. When good things show up, they are silent; when bad things show up, they just try their best to beat the heck out of Ashley. Again, I’ll just look at the end of the upcoming term and judge again.

Well those who doubt/havent seen Erdinc play will have a chance to ‘scout’ him in the Emirates cup later today (doubt he’l start) Or better,he isnt invovld at all which would suggest a transfer is imminent (to us,hopefully)

  • 411 ginkoh // Jul 30, 2011 at 5:41 AM

Vuckic and Gosling are more than enough to fill Nolan gap. With Cabaye and MArve I think we got enough quality and quantity in midfield. Unless we can sell Smith and Routledge.

For Erding, If he doesn’t want to come, so be it and we should look elsewhere. But I doubt we can sign other good striker in time with our transfer policy.

  • 412 ~Cheik Mate~ // Jul 30, 2011 at 6:57 AM

We didnt buy Nzogbia because he wasnt top priority ffs.

Why the **** should we spend nearly 1/3rd of the Andy Carroll money on a player whose best position is a position Newcastle are well stocked up on.

Zogbia is primarily a left midfielder.

Our current crop of lads who can play on the left wing and do a job there if needed are

    1.Ben Arfa
    2. Guttierez
    3. Ferguson
    4. Marveux
    5. Lua Lua (if the first 4 are injured)
    6. Lovenkrands (If we are desperate)

Why should we buy another Left winger who could potentially halt Fergusons progress?

We have for more critical positions we need to buy cover/replace.

    1. Strikers – We need a pacey Bellamy Type Forward
2.Left Back – Enrique will leave eventually, Ferguson is more of a Left winger then a left back.
    3. Right Back – Simmo (hopefully improves in his second season in the EPL) Ryan Taylor, Tavernier(Would be first season in the EPL) and dare i say it, James Perch.
    4. Right Wing – if we still have money. Its not important that we buy a Right Winger this summer as we have more then enough bodies to fill it up for now. (Barton, Guttierez, Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling)

  • 413 ~Cheik Mate~ // Jul 30, 2011 at 7:00 AM

    P.S

That list is in order of most important to least important

So even if Nzogbia can play on the Right. Right wing is at the BOTTOM, of the list. So therefore not as important as buying a new Striker a New Left back and Cover for Right back.

Getting back to what the post was about:

We don,t hear about any other clubs having Visa problems on their Pre-season tours? Especially not with the likes of Manure or Chelski, etc !

Why is that? Is there no-one employed in the staff whose function is to look at these sort of problems before the Pre-season outings are arranged?

By the way, I did,nt realise this was the Arsenal Blog! Maybe some of you have a slight complex about blueprints, and Fat Ash etc ! Don,t want to come on here and have to hear continually about the Gooners!

The trip to America will of been good experience for the team, and the staff, and lessons will of been learned as far as regards Visa,s etc !
The Dutch trip for the reserves is also a good experience for the club and in both cases we won,t of made ourselves any enemies.
Indeed if a scout has travelled together with the squads then this is also a way of searching for new talent as far as regards signings.
Some of the fans on here are just way too negative for my liking!

I would have liked to have see FCB buy 2 or 3 9m plus quality players on top of what we have! Zoggy, gervinho, etc! Thing is, had it on good authority these 2 were never realistic targets! They were pawns, used as season ticket sales promo vouchers! We were just being mislead!

I would like to see 2 wingers supplying 2 strikers, little n large, hba just behind cheik cleaning up, and our defense tensing as is with one of the youngsters in goal!

You ‘optimists’ are relying on jellyfish parpoo saying he’ll bring in a new striker? Why? Why would he? It means spending decent money, and he said he’d play hba as second striker in hole as a number 10 on numerous occasions! He has a plethora of midfield at his disposal, he has to try n accommodate all them!!

I expect a season of struggle next season but hope I’m wrong! I think the players we got in free are average to good players and will take a bit of time to adapt! We never bought that star quality bums off seats type player we were ‘promised from the Andy carrol cash’ and this is what makes me feel sick and conned!
