Newcastle United have confirmed today that Joey Barton has been placed on the transfer list as a free agent.
Joey Barton – being kicked out at Newcastle – is one way of saying it
The player has been advised that he can leave Newcastle on a free transfer.
Well how’s that for losing £4M on the fee Newcastle could get for Joey?
The Daily Telegraph is reporting the decision was made by Managing Director Derek Llambias this morning, following talks with owner Mike Ashley after the player went public with his criticisms of both of them on his Twitter account.
Once again we see in the cool light of day the complete ruthlessness of this pair.
We told you that Twitter account would get Joey into big trouble, and of course he was asking for trouble by tweeting things again, after the game yesterday, and after he had earlier criticized the Newcastle hierarchy.
Joey has one year left on his contract but was hoping to see it out and become a free agent next summer, but Newcastle have made him a free agent right now, like they also did earlier this summer with Alan Smith.
Joey can now entertain some good offers for him, since clubs will have to pay nothing for a player who was probably Newcastle’s best player last season.
Kevin Nolan left rather quickly in June, and said over the weekend that derek LLambias had reneged on a verbal agreement for his new contract and Jose Enrique will soon leave, so this summer Newcastle have lost three of their top players in Barton, Nolan and Enrique, and we’re not even going to mention Andy Carroll.
What is going on?
