With Joey Barton being kicked out of the club this morning, and Jose Enrique certain to leave soon, Newcastle will now need to bring in more players before September 1st.
Jose Enrique – will leave Newcastle shortly
Once again discontent brewed after yesterday’s dismal display at Leeds United, when the Championship side were much better than Newcastle, and of course Joey – for the last time it seems – blew his top on that Twitter account of his.
But now this year Newcastle have lost arguably their best four players in Andy Carroll, captain Kevin Nolan and both Joey Barton and Jose Enrique seem certain now to leave in this transfer window.
There’s something wrong somewhere, when these top four players leave the club in a short nine months, and we’d love to know exactly what is going on at the club that seems to be upsetting the senior players.
Certainly there’s little evidence that Ashley has invested much in the club this summer, and when Wayne Routledge leaves for Swansea tomorrow, Newcastle will have a net of plus £2M as far as transfer fees paid out and received – not what we all expected, that’s for sure.
Assuming Joey and Jose leave Newcastle this summer, the club will have lost Sol Campbell, Shefki Kuqi, Kevin Nolan, Wayne Routledge, Joey Barton and Jose Enrique this summer – that’s six players and Newcastle have brought in Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and 18 year-old Mehdi Abeid.
Kazenga LuaLua has also been dispatched on loan to Brighton so the squad right now is short on both quantity and quality.
Newcastle are short on numbers and class too, and it certainly doesn’t appear to be a good way of running the club – any club.
And all of this strife cannot be good news for the new players who have just joined the club this summer – that’s also painfully true.
The four years that Mike Ashley has spent on Tyneside have been tenuous at best, and certainly not successful at all, and it doesn”t seem to be getting any better as Ashley continues to drop these bombshells.
Chris Hughton was fired, then Andy Carroll was sold, and Mike seems to do exactly what he wants to do at Newcastle, and we suppose that’s what you can do when you own the club.
But we have to be honest, and say it was simply stupid what Joey Barton did yesterday, and he was asking for trouble and he knew it, and he paid the price.
Although the club have done him a big favor, because he’s now a free agent, and can do now what he planned to do next summer, and get a big fat contract at some other club.
Somehow we thought Joey wouldn’t last until September …. but we didn’t think it would all end like this.
But bottom line – this is all very sad stuff for Newcastle fans everywhere – and it hurts.
