Sky Sports is reporting today that Newcastle may be interested in Standard Liege youngster, Eliaquim Mangala.
Eliaquim Mangala – 20 year old French U21 International;
Mangala is of Congolese descent and the lad is a French Youth international and currently plays for the under-21 team, having made his debut in November, 2009 against Tunisia.
Mangala also holds a Belgian passport having lived in the country since he was five, and he has played 98 times with 4 goals for Standard Liege, since he made his debut back in 2008, when he was just 17 years old.
It turns out that Spanish club Valencia are very interested in the player, but so far no deal has been done for the left sided defender, who has played 12 times for the French U21 side.
Benfica and Porto have also been linked with the highly rated player, but today his agent Fabrizio Ferrari had said his client would like to move Spain or England.
This is what Ferrari told the Portuguese press today:
“His future is in Spain or England,” “Currently this is where he has received the most attractive offers, but nothing is signed yet.
“The dream was always was to find Mangala a competitive league like the Spanish or English.”
Sources in Belgium are reporting that two English clubs, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers are interested in the 6’2″ Paris-born defender.
We have no idea if this report is true, but the lad looks more than a decent prospect, and after yesterday’s performance of the back four, surely we need one or two defenders in before September 1st.
