Newcastle have seemingly agreed a fee of around £5M for Spaniard Jose Enrique to finally move to Liverpool.
Jose Enrique – fee agreed with Liverpool?
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the deal should be completed this week, so it could be that by the time Newcastle meet Fiorentina on Saturday afternoon at St. James’ Park, both Joey Barton and Jose Enrique could have left Newcastle.
The Daily Mail is reporting the fee is £10M and the Daily Mirror is reporting the fee is £5M, so let’s hope the Mail is accurate.
Enrique was fined two weeks wages 10 days ago in America, after criticizing the Newcastle owner Mike Ashley via a tweet for his lack of ambition, and Joey Barton has been given a free transfer by the club, and also fined two weeks wages for a similar tweet he sent out after the 3-2 defeat at Leeds United last Sunday.
Newcastle will be wanting to get both players out of the club quickly, and presumably the powers that be at Newcastle will need to bring new players in to replace both Enrique and Barton – we hope.
And Newcastle are still after a striker, after having been bogged down in their pursuits of Kevin Gameiro and Mevlut Erdinc for weeks and weeks, with no success.
There’s still time for Newcastle to reinvigorate the squad before September rolls around, and if the Enrique deal goes through, Newcastle will have so far made £7M in the transfer market this summer, and that’s £12M if Jose goes for £10M.
So money presumably should not be a problem for the Tyneside club – we hope.
