If Newcastle Want Shane Long – They Better Move Quickly

News yesterday that Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has made a £7M bid for Reading’s Shane Long.

Leicester City are in for Irish striker

And presumably with Newcastle’s long standing effort to bring Turkish striker Mevlut Erdinc to Newcastle dead in the water, Newcastle should be turning their attentions to other players.

24 year old Long scored 25 goals in 50 games for Reading last season in a failed effort to get the club promoted, but Reading will definitely be cashing in on the player this summer.

We’re not at all sure if Long is wanted at Newcastle,  but with the failed attempts to bring Kevin Gameiro and Mevlut Erdinc to the club, Newcastle must bring another striker in within the next four weeks.

And if Jose Enrique is sold to Liverpool this week for  £5M, and with Routledge going to Swansea for £2M,  Newcastle will have made £7M in transfer fees so far this summer, and that’s enough to bring Shane Long to Newcastle.

As we said earlier today Newcastle must move quickly to bring in more players this summer, or risk having a weakened squad to do battle in the Premier League next season.

That would not be progress at all, to say the very least.

Get im in, he’d do the job, plus he’s english, which means we can shift him for atleast £20 million at a later stage 😛

No, i think he can do the job for us tbh, would like to see him in black and white.

4m and Shola, make a bid asap!

What a dream, getting rid of Shola… Sadly, it won’t happen, he’s been here for 10 years without performing now

    Is he really any good?

I think it’s sad that we have let 2 of our best players go to major competition like Liverpool.. That’s really poor work from NUFC

We have had no real rumours about players coming in for ages apart from Erding but that never amounted to much.

Could have signed N’Zog but weren’t willing to pay 9.5 mill even though we we were to pay 12 mill in Jan.

Poor poor management of a team and the board are a bunch of absolute ball breakers

Off-topic, but seen Barton’s tweets this morning?

“Just because ur told to jump, it does not necessarily mean u have to. I may choose to stand perfectly still. It’s my right…just a thought”

Seems he could call their bluff and refuse to sign for anyone else, meaning they would have to sack him as his position seems almost untenable now.

I was happy with Ba but we definitely need another of his quality or better

I dont think we need a striker.

    Ba is decent.
Best was begining to look decent.
Loven is ok but fading fast
Ranger really could be the real deal
    Sammy Ameobi looks decent
    Shola can be decent
Airey unproven but people keep on about him

I suppose if we could, I’d love to ship out Loven and Shola and get someone else but I doubt it will happen.

We really need another top WINGER and obviously two top defenders, a LEFT BACK and another CENTRAL DEFENDER with Willo going.

Long is a good player, quick strong, hard working, plays off shoulder.
I dont know why some fans only look at stats and ratio’s, why not judge him with your own eyes, its not FootballManager.

If barton were to stay its garunteed he would not be allowed by MA to be included in the 25 man squad, and would also be forced to train alone for the next year. Surely Barton isnt stubborn enough to dig his heels in here and waste a year of his career.

    GRUMPY POST

Totally fed up with the way our club is doing business again during the transfer window.

The club have got rid of / or are about to get rid of every player who stood up to Llambias in that meeting after Hughton was sacked.

The only two left are Harps and Smudger, who were playing with the RESERVES last night!

I think Harper deserves more respect but watch your back Stevie, you are probably next in line for revenge from our owner.

I see rumours are strong that we are selling Enrique to the cesspool for £5m. I hope that fee is not true.

I think it is funny, at the end of the season everyone was saying how this transfer window would be how the board and Pardew would be judged.

Yet we have still a month to go. Articles like todays on this blog just stirs shit up. “We must act now”. Bollocks, that is called panic buying, we have a MONTH.

Other people on hear now apparently give a shit to what a cricketer sayd!!! Swans article in the SUN!

FFS lads, get a grip. The other thing I love about the people posting on this blog is that they always spout stuff about well if the player doesn’t want to be here then get rid. Enrique does not want to be here. I say get rid!!!

Look our team is changing and for what I can tell it is for the better. Our young talent look pretty nifty. We will spend money. As I have said in earlier comments it is not in MA interest to bugger the club. (No matter what the local and national Rags say oh and bloody cricketers for that matter).

Reporters feed of blogs like this to get the fans reaction to what they then turn into shit in their papers. Get positive and get real. Our club IS moving forward no matter what, getting rid of that thug out of this club is going to be the best thing ever!

    Suck it in Lads

    Not sure about Long.

Until last season his stats are poor.
Then there’s a massive jump up to 25 from 50 games.
First time he’s got into double figures.

Can’t see us buying anyone to be honest.
    Probably loan signings.

Ashley happy to finish 17th and pocket the cash.

Dannyo, surely if we wanted to move fast we would have a few extra strikers in by now??? it seems that when the club has to spend anything they move as slowly as possible, maybe its to get the best deal?? maybe its to just piss everybody else off to the point the deal collapses and the club then say well we tried???? maybe its neither or both, the simple fact is that the club has the fans in complete disarray.

The only possible end that i can see in the near future is complete anarchy amongst the fans, relegation, possibly liquidation, no new buyer in sight and then follow the leeds gameplan.

I really cant see us coming back up again if we go down. The sad thing about all of this is that i dont think that situation is all that far away, as another poster said on the last thread – a bad start could easily spell doom for this club

@bosamuelson – I’ve been saying words to that effect all summer. Unfortunately I’m now starting to worry.

I know there is a month left of the window but atm the rumours seem to have totally dried up and the only person we’re linked with is Erdinc, who apparently doesnt want to come.

At the same time, we’re losing players from an already thin squad, and getting our name dragged through the press again, which will hardly make us an attractive option to players.

I’ve said all summer that we should wait til Sept 1st but MA is making that decision for us earlier than expected.

It would take a miracle to turn this window around now.

No club can be said to be improving if in 6 months they sell their best striker (carroll), top scorer (Nolan), player of the season (barton) and one of the best LB’s in the prem(enrique).
