Newcastle In Talks With Barton Replacement

News today in the local Newcastle press that the club have opened talks with Swiss midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta.

Tranquillo Barnetta – Newcastle target to replace Barton

From what we can tell Newcastle are moving quickly to bring in a replacement for Joey Barton, who may be tweeting his way out of a new club.

The rumors are that his constant tweets criticizing the Newcastle hierarchy, have put off a number of clubs that were initially interested in him – will he never learn that he needs to give up that Twitter account – for his own good.

He’s coming across as a trouble-maker, whether he knows that or not.

Willie McKay, his agent, said that he was in negotiations with a club in the north-west yesterday, and that could well be Everton, the home town team he supported as a boy.

We have to hope that the negotiations with Tranquillo move quickly, and he comes to Newcastle soon, because fans are none too happy right now at Newcastle.

From our readers in Switzerland and germany, we’ve heard different reports regarding Barnetta, that he is anywhere from average to very good, and of course the lad has been at Bayern Leverkusen since he was 19 years of age, back in 2004.

We like what we’ve seen when we’ve seen Tranquillo play, and he was certainly great against England a few months ago, when he scored two good goals in that first half.

And the good news is that Barnetta is said to be very keen to join Newcastle United.

Ed, Given that we have, allegedly, been looking for a replacement for our Number 9 since January – that’s SEVEN months – What makes you think Barton’s replacement will arrive next week??

Where is the money coming from? Its all been spent on 3 free transfers and some plumbing for the training ground!!!

I’ve ben a fan of Barnetta for a while. Good solid player who will compliment the team well.

Still no sign of a striker though 🙁 Although there’s still a while to go yet

Won’t happen. Getting sick of speculation, wouldn’t surprise me if the rumours are put out by the club in an attempt to appease supporters, “we’re after this player and that player” then when September 1st comes round and we haven’t signed anyone it’ll be “oh well, we tried” even PSG said they didn’t receive a bid from us for Erdinc. If we sign the players we need I’ll eat my hat!

Because, Graeme, we appear to have picked a replacement for this position who wants to come. We put in a lot of time and effort for Gameiro then Gervinho then Erdinc, and none wanted to come….

toonruz – am not b funny but how does barton know whats happening with transfer the answer is he wont, so how is he speaking the truth, am more concerned with the fact he is crying like baby over not taking corners n not being captain n slagging the rest of the team saying were in for relegation battle n u want someone like that at the club no thanks

no way he’s coming to toon just a way to waste another couple of weeks, then another name will turn up, before we know it will be sept 1 and no more players in, then club will say well at least we tried, but its very difficult to get players for free nowadays

I have to say there’s a surprising amount of support for Barton, a player who is opening damaging the reputation of our football club and has had one good season… how many people said he should have been sacked when he went to jail for assaulting someone, yet when he turns the club into a public laughing stock thats perfectly fine

Agreed mate, not that he is a bad player, but he has no experience, and it could be risky, the fact remains, that we don’t have one single left back??? FFS, and we sell that pr!ck Jose to a fekking rival??? WTF is going on here?? Look at those idiot Spuds, and Modric, they have basically told Modric to shut up, and Chelski to F@CK off, thats the way to run a club, you will never be successful by selling your best players

not a Ghost – If, as you say, we put a lot of effort into getting Gameiro, Gervinho, Erdinc – surely we would have discovered very early in the process that NOT ONE of those three players was remotely interested in coming to NUFC.

According to two of the above players Clubs NUFC made NO official approach for the player and NO bid was received from NUFC

Its not just the redtops putting out rubbish – NUFC does its own fair share to keep fans thinking they are planning on bringing in loads of major players.

Barnetta would be great. I live in pure hope that the Journal actually know what they’re talking about, I mean it’s a hell of a confident headline, they must be pretty positive about their leads.

    @20 Wes

You got the Modric comparison all wrong. Firstly Modric is on a long contract, 5 years left i believe and if spurs get the money they want 35-40m he’ll be shipped out —- Every Player Has A Price —- just remember that its not just nufc!

Enriques contract is up next season so if they sell now they can get a good fee 8-10m THEN they can replace him. I would love to have new LB in now but people just need to realise we have signed 4 players and there is a month left.

Some PL clubs havent signed anyone yet! Christ How much have Everton spent in recent years?? Wonder what some of you guys would do in that situation… expect too much from a now mid-table prem team. We are no longer CL contenders – get over it.

Barnetta is a good player from what ive seen (from world cups etc) but i do think barton is a much better prem player.

However barton plays out right so he can fit into the team and withba good proper RW would give better overall balance.

    Another french type speaker though!!!

You’re upset that Enrique’s going to a rival but he’s got 1 year left

So which other club 1. needs a left back 2. prepared to pay us top dollar 3. is below us in the table / not considered a rival. 4. a club enrique is willing to go to considering he wants to play cl football.

Sometimes you gotta make the most out of the given circumstances. 5-10m (and a poss replacement) is better than 0 in a years time.

Graeme, again I’d have thought if you talk to someone on the phone and establish details, you can set a price, find out whether the player is interested etc. without ever making an “official bid” or “formal offer”, perhaps it was established there was going to be a hiccup in the process, so they never needed to make that offer because they knew it would fall at that hurdle anyway, if that makes sense?

If you are in any doubt about what we can do as fans collectively and as individuals please read Graeme’s posts from yesterdays “Two Strikers” posting, post 97 etc. Talks a lot of sense. MA will not pump more and more cash into the club should revenue fall substantially from a continuous boycot of club merchandise, matchday income etc. We, YOU, can make a difference.

A little analogy, granted somewhat contrived. There is a local takeaway that everyone goes to regularly since it is the only takeaway available and everyone wants to eat. The food isn’t great but they keep going back since they believe the food will get better in time if they keep going, buy food and give the owner income which they believe will be used to improve the takeaway. The person who owns this takeaway is rubbing his
hands together every night when he checks the takings. He can’t believe the people keep coming back for the food, which he himself knows isn’t that great. Does this takeaway owner have any incentive to improve the food? The customers keep coming back and paying him. Why does he need to change anything?

Moral of the story? If you keep paying for something that isn’t to the standard you want it to be what makes you think it will ever change?

Might have made you smile if nothing more 🙂
