Strange news today that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is considering a move for Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan.
Gabriel Obertan – loan deal for next season?
But the immediate question is why?
While Gabriel is the type of youngster Newcastle want to bring to the club, he’s hardly had an outstanding time at the Red Devils over the last two seasons.
The 22 year-old joined Manchester United in 2009, and has so far played only 28 times for on of the world’s top clubs, with one goal.
The Pantin, France born youngster played for all of the French U21 sides, including 11 times for the U21 side. and he certainly has talent, but has been inconsistent in his time at United.
News is the 22-year-old is not happy at Old Trafford, and still has two years left on his current deal, and would be happy to seek pastures anew.
One question would be how much the youngster would cost, and he is said to have signed for the Red Devils from Bordeaux for about £3M in July of 2009.
Obertan joined Bordeaux back in 2005 but has made only 14 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils in the last two years, and he certainly would get a lot more playing time at Newcastle, and of course there’s little doubt he’s a skillful player.
One possibility would be a loan move with an option of buying the player outright next summer, for a pre-arranged fee, and that would seem to work for both clubs.
Having looked at Obertan’s record while writing this piece, he may not be too bad of a signing after all, if Newcastle brought him on loan for a season, and it would then be up to the young Frenchman to show what he has to offer Newcastle.
What do you think?

Comment #84If we get over all the arguments over wage demands with Football Arseholes ( sorry i meant Agents ! ).
Then we might have a chance to sign someone, just recently any signings, have fallen foul of our miserly? ( 40,000 a week ) salary policy! If they paid me 2500 a week, Christ even i would consider putting my boots back on! And I,me a knackered old shit!!!!
Not wishing to crawl or owt Niafron, but i love everything French, epecially the Wine and the cuisine! As for the war, that was last century, and all happened too long ago to discuss here, no disrespect but this is a Football rubriek!

Comment #86I don’t know much about him but Manure hardly buy crap, excuse the pun.
I think he needs playing time and he’ll flourish.
This is a real possibility with Pardew mentioning he spoke to Alex Ferguson today.
A loan option with option to buy would be brilliant.
Then all we would need is to sort out our CF and LB positions and we’ll be much better than last year.

Comment #87Guys seriously, we need bodies simple fact and this boy has some skills. He has not had a chance at Man United and would be a good signing for us. If we get him on loan with an option to buy what is the risk in that? If he turn out to be a gem great news we will have him, if he is indeed pants then send him back.
