Alan Pardew spoke to the press yesterday and covered many different topics.
Alan Pardew – squad wants more players in
Pardew did say that the chase for PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc had indeed ended in failure, but he also said one or two interesting things about the need to bring in some new players to the club, and quickly too.
This is what Alan said:
“We need to bring more in. The problem I’ve got with the group at the moment is that they want to see one or two players coming through the door,”
“The fans do. I want that to happen, and I’m making it very clear to Derek Llambias and owner Mike Ashley that we need one or two boys in this door, now.”
“l have to say we made an enquiry about a player this week who we thought we had a chance of getting. And we were told that he wasn’t for sale. That’s where that one is.”
It seems that Newcastle went after Swiss winger Tranquillo Barnetta, but that may have already ended in failure with his agent ridiculing Newcastle’s £40k/week offer to his client.
That could (should?) be the end of that interest, but maybe Newcastle’s reported interest in Manchester United’s French winger Gabriel Obertan is more interesting, since there’s no doubt this lad has talent, and he could do well a black and white shirt.
Not sure if Obertan is the player who the club enquired about, and is not for sale.
But Newcastle certainly need a couple of new players brought in quickly.
