Pardew – We Need One Or Two Players Brought In Now

Alan Pardew spoke to the press yesterday and covered many different topics.

Alan Pardew – squad wants more players in

Pardew did say that the chase for PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc had indeed ended in failure, but he also said one or two interesting things about the need to bring in some new players to the club, and quickly too.

This is what Alan said:

“We need to bring more in. The problem I’ve got with the group at the moment is that they want to see one or two players coming through the door,”

“The fans do. I want that to happen, and  I’m making it very clear to Derek Llambias and owner Mike Ashley that we need one or two boys in this door, now.”

“l have to say we made an enquiry about a player this week who we thought we had a chance of getting. And we were  told that he wasn’t for sale. That’s where that one is.”

It seems that Newcastle went after Swiss winger Tranquillo Barnetta, but that may have already ended in failure with his agent ridiculing Newcastle’s £40k/week offer to his client.

That could (should?) be the end of that interest, but maybe Newcastle’s reported interest in Manchester United’s French winger Gabriel Obertan is more interesting, since there’s no doubt this lad has talent, and he could do well a black and white shirt.

Not sure if Obertan is the player who the club enquired about, and is not for sale.

But Newcastle certainly need a couple of new players brought in quickly.

Comments welcome.

Wha was the bloke yesterday saying he was Barnettas agent? Turns out he wasnt at all. The cheeky c**t!

An injury to Tranquilo Barnetta looks set to scupper a move away from Bayer Leverkusen this month, his agent has confirmed.

Barnetta has been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle, whilst Wigan and Sunderland are also thought to have an interest.

However, speaking exclusively to skysports.com, his agent Franco Moretti has confirmed that Barnetta picked up an injury this week.

“It is unfortunate but Tranquilo picked up an injury this week, which means he is not even thinking about moving,” he said.

“It is a muscle injury which could rule him out for three weeks, so at the moment his only concern is about getting fit.”

There has been confusion about Barnetta’s representation, but Moretti confirmed that he had held talks with Newcastle and that everything was going well.

“Newcastle acted properly throughout, we know somebody was claiming things they should not have been, but we wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the club did everything they should,” he continued.

“Newcastle, and other clubs we have been talking to, have been very good with us.

“But at the moment a deal is not in the offing, although in football you never know – it all depends on how quickly Tranquilo recovers, it could still happen – but we will have to wait and see.”

Its horrendous to see us get turned down by quality players. Hope he doesnt just bring somone in for the sake of it – they have to compliment the team. Anyone know if we enquired about Rondon frome Malaga (hes pure class, and were in for him in Jan h’apprently)

Has anyone seen enough of Obertan to say he’s not good enough for us?

we need one forward one left back one center back one right winger but ill be happy with one stricker and one left back if ENRIQUE leaves if not one right winger with pace trickery and good passing ability

@JB, im not a big fan myself but ive had a look on a couple of Man u blogs and they all seem to think he’s one for the future for them, saying he should be loaned for the experience but shouldnt have an option to buy in the loan deal.

Obertan has struggled a bit in European games and looked a little nervous but certainly has major speed. I would like him

Not sure any of you heard the news, but that bloke who apparently represented Barnetta, wasn’t his agent. Unfortunately, he’s gone and picked up an injury, which may rule out a deal, although his agent does state “in football you never know – it all depends on how quickly Tranquillo recovers, it could still happen [A transfer] – but we will have to wait and see.”

So is it Barnetta or Obertan then? Not both? I know wages and all that but Obertan cant be on that much at Man Utd surely?

I’d take Obertan no problem. Those calling Pardew a wimp need to take a reality check. There’s no doubt he’s being as forceful as possible, but at the end oif the day, its MA who has to spend the money.

Its nice to see that he has a relationship with Fergie as that might prove very useful for season ahead with Loan deals… it seems to me what we will get in is another striker at around 12m and then two loan deals…

watched fulham 1 west ham 3 game last night and it surprised me how good carlton cole was, everybody on here says he’s crap he took fulham apart, big strong good in the air tricky and agile, scored a great goal, think we could do a lot worse than him, better than what we have now

Every manager we have every transfer window begs the board for players no matter what situation we are in and the outcome is always the same. I just want to march down there and scream at Ashley and lambias. It’s too slow, every window we chase a main target for too long then bang we are in the last few weeks when no one will sell any of there decent players and we are left with rubbish.

Obertan is hit and miss imo. Some games he looks brilliant and in others distinctly average and doesn’t seem interesting in playing. Maybe that’s because he just doesn’t get enough game time.

I think Macheda at United could be a good loan move for the season
