Where In The World Is Cheick Tiote?

1:48 pm, Friday, August 5th, 2011 by Ed Harrison · 190 Comments

We’ve seen the rumors in the comments section about Cheick Tiote wanting to leave Newcastle, and even being seen at Chelsea, but none of that is true, and none of it has even been in the gossip press.

Cheick Tiote – renewing visa in Accra, Ghana

Cheick is still in Accra trying to get through his visa renewed, and it was hoped he would be in Ghana just a few days,  but it’s not working out like that to the frustration of manager Alan Pardew.

Alan Pardew doesn’t think the Ivory Coast International’s fitness will be any problem when he returns to England ….. and will be shortly we hope.

But Tiote will now miss the last warm up game of the pre-season, the home friendly against Fiorentina tomorrow afternoon.

Derek Wright travelled with him to West Africa, and is ensuring the player keeps reasonably fit while waiting for the visa renewal to come through.

And why that is taking so long we have no idea, and couldn’t it have been done by mail?

Goalkeeper Steve Harper is out tomorrow with a knee injury (again?), and of course the three other injured players – Ben Arfa, Danny Guthrie and Shane Ferguson – will not be involved.

Pardew talked to the local Newcastle press today about Tiote:

“Cheik’s still trying to get his visa,”

“It’s nothing to do with the football club – it’s nothing to do with the British end. We’re putting enough pressure on them.”

“It’s not ideal. Derek’s out there, and it’s the best scenario we can have. We’ve tried to get a local team for him to train with, but it’s not really working out.”

“We need to make sure it’s structured. He’s doing a lot of fitness work, and Cheik will pick the ball up no problem.”’

Tim Krul will be in goal tomorrow, to  press his claim to be the new first choice Newcastle goalkeeper for next season, and we expect the team to look something like this:

Krul
Simpson Coloccini (c) Taylor (S) Enrique
Gosling Cabaye Vuckic Gutierrez (Marveaux)
Ameobi Ba

What would your team be for tomorrow?

Comments welcome.

He should be still here , he came in last week I think. Africa can be slow for these things , Brith High Comm close at lunchtime for G &T’s !!!! he should have no problems staying fit , as he will probably be at Marcel Desailly’s place, as he has a great football training facility in Accra .

  • 29 Rowan Milsted // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:16 PM

Like I said in another post I’m not jumping to any wild conclusions but his continued absence is yet anothe unwanted distraction.

thai-mag – Maybe someone more in the know than me, like yourself, could answer me this- how likely is it that Tiote’s visa could be allowed to expire? And if it did, would he have to return to Accra for him to renew it?

Also people were saying on here days ago that he was back in Newcastle- obviously this isn’t true then.

My wild theory- maybe NUFC shipped him to Africa and have him locked in a shed so no bugger can buy him! Hope he’s back soon, we need this guy, great player.

  • 30 ginkoh // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:17 PM

Too much Striker if we play only 1 striker upfront. However just quantity we have.

  • 31 Andy // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:17 PM

Marv can play in behind a striker i read. So if joey does get his head right for arsenal we could have a midfield of

    barton-cabaye-tiote-jonas
    Marveaux

  • 32 Andy // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:19 PM

Ole Soderberg, Patrick Nzuzi, Alex Nicholson, Yven Moyo, Michael Riley, James Perch, Jeff Henderson, Brad Inman, Greg McDermott, Ryan Donaldson, Joan Edmundsson, Mehdi Abeid, Phil Airey.

Reserve squad for tonight. Would’ve thought abeid would be involved at leeds and tomorrow. Maybe Pardew is looking to give players a full 90 to get up to match speed

  • 33 NUFC_Richyg01 // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:20 PM

    Ashley in goal?

We would be guarenteed noone would score, that fat git would fill the entire goal frame.!

  • 34 NUFC_Richyg01 // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:21 PM

    @31

That would suggest that maybe Pards wants to test Abeid against Fiorentina?

is he good enough or not worth the risk ?

  • 40 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:28 PM

this story is wrong when you enter Britain to work you get a visa for the length of contract, and your work permit is for up to 5 years and only needs renewed on a change of employer, so unless he had his visa revoked it could not have expired yet he has not even been with us a Year yet. even a temporary leave to stay for illegal immigrants lasts 5 years. unless the government have new restrictions that aren’t even on the governments web site yet.

Dave see comment 11 Difference of opininion. We must remember that Cote D’Ivorie (spelling) is currently embroiled in a civil war.

  • 45 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:41 PM

I should also of added a visa would not require renewing as work is not a condition of entry, the only thing it could be is his passport had less than six months until needing renewing I suppose this could be a minor problem, but he could renew a visa in the UK, its such a strange one this.

  • 46 ochytoon // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:45 PM

Right I don’t really know much about Tiotes problem but is it possible that its because he applied for a work permit here and then a further one from here to America and there has been a cock up so to speak

  • 47 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:49 PM

ochytoon a work permit lasts up to 5 years and only needs to be renewed if you change employer, and the Japanese’s employers in the region have overseas workers coming & going and don’t have a problem, visas are more relaxed in the uk.

  • 48 Andy // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:50 PM

  • 53 ochytoon // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:54 PM

ohhh i see. Well have any of you thought its got nothing to do with a visa problem and it might be personal. No doubt Tiote has family in Ivory Coast and with the state its in maybe a family member has died and he is grieving but doesn’t want his personal business aired out to the public. Might just be respecting his privacy

  • 54 Rowan Milsted // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:55 PM

Can’t get my head around this one.

  • 55 Andy // Aug 5, 2011 at 2:56 PM

For his own safety, we wouldn’t want our player holed up in a war torn country. Maybe he is visiting family and paying respects fromhana?

    *from ghana

  • 62 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:01 PM

Tiote has a large family back home its surprising he has not tried to bring them over with him, he’s the main bread winner for his hole family, he sends large parts of his wages to his family, when most of our players send theirs to the cassino’s.

  • 63 WWJBD // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:02 PM

Maybe his family have moved to Ghana?

  • 64 WWJBD // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:03 PM

  • 65 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:04 PM

anyone think he might be held by Bayer Leverkusen until we give Tranquillo Barnetta back?

  • 66 Burni // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:04 PM

As Ed says its not even reported in the gossip press.

Its because of people like Jimmymagpie, the guy who is in the know. hes that in the know that

    a) in January, Enrique going to liverpool was a done deal
    b) a month later he was definitely going to Manu according to his source
    c) two weeks ago, his source told him that Enrique was DEFINITELY an Arsenal player by the end of the month ie July 31
    d) Now he hasnt gone, hes definitely a Liverpool player again
    e) Now Tiote doesnt want to come back
    f) also french players are regretting coming here.

The problem is that some people on here are equally as negative and unfortunately when they see what he types, they jump on the negative bandwagon and the story gets bigger and bigger like a snowball down a hill if you will.

I know this is pretty much an attack on an individual on here and normally I would be against it, but everything I say here is fact, I am merely repeating what has happened and why we now have ed running this story.
sorry if any of you think this is uncalled for.

  • 67 Andy // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:05 PM

Maybe Tiote is being kept out of the way to ensure we don’t pick up any training injuries. 0 training injuries since he’s been in ghana. And it’s been at least a week!

  • 68 ochytoon // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:05 PM

    WWJBD
He could have bought them safety there, that would explain why he is in Ghana, sorting out documents etc. so his family can live there

  • 69 Sav // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:11 PM

Which Ameobi do you mean, Ed?

  • 70 WWJBD // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:11 PM

    ochytoon
Yeah fair one as we know NUFC are happy to allow players leave for family matters (Simmo coming home for his first born and Willo being allowed to go with the reserves incase his wife gave birth as well)

So pretty much we still have no idea whats really going on with Tiote hopefully nothing bad has happened to his family though I would far prefer he was leaving NUFC than that

  • 71 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 3:11 PM

ochytoon he might be able to bring them here as he’s a multi millionaire he could employ them although we claim to have restrictions on none skilled workers. the only thing the club does well is the welfare of the players don’t they have Harris’s dad working for the club.

Look at the official info on times for visa applications in Ghana here –

    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/countries/ghana/processing-times/?langname=UK%20English

In case you don’t have time to check it out here is an extract:

“We have service standards for processing UK visa applications in Ghana. Our standards say that we will process:

90 per cent of non-settlement applications within 3 weeks, 98% within 6 weeks and 100% within 12 weeks of the application date; and
95 per cent of settlement applications within 12 weeks and 100% within 24 weeks of the application date.

Please note we define one week as 5 working days. ”

No sure what this means for Cheick!

@80 – Dunno if you are joking since Martins didnt exactly set the world on fire for long but…..Depends what monetary price you put on winning a game – a goal based incentive might make players try that little bit harder? I wouldn’t mind a situation where a player gets a bonus for scoring (or the team for winning)- could be a bit unfair on other players who aren’t in offensive positions often. Least the keeper could get a bonus for saving a penalty too maybe lol :) If each place in the table is worth nearly a million at the end of season, £10k for a goal which could get you higher up the table isnt too bad is it? :)

All players get win based bonuses, man of the match bonuses etc. Then other bonuses are split into clean sheet bonuses and goal bonuses. Probably even get assist bonuses.
Just not the astronomical figues Oba seemed to be getting :P

Seem to be 3 options for Tiote’s disappearance.

1, Visa problem as stated and could possibly take 3 weeks minimum to sort out.(ToonMobile info)

2, personal problems with family in the middle of a war zone in his home country.

    3, SOLD

Love it Tonytoon73 @ 91. I think Mickey has a whole collection. Is there a Derek Llambias watch to go with it? Our handling of visas has been masterful. With management like ours the bottom is clearly in sight. Kidding aside I hope we manage a win against Fiorentina just to cheer things up a bit.

Is it true that Llambias has a role in the new film Rise of the Planet of the Apes as a stuntchimp? He doesn’t even require makeup. He doesn’t do anything at Newcastle so didn’t even require time off to make the flic. Now we need a new Star Wars episode for Jabba.

  • 155 JackButler // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:25 PM

Starting to get worries now by the length of time its taking Tiote to get his visa sorted?

  • 156 ochytoon // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:27 PM

We discussed it earlier and came to the conclusion it is either going to take another week for him to come back or he is away for personal/family reasons.

  • 157 JackButler // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:30 PM

Hahaha, yh he will be a very important player this year as well, I don’t believe these conspiracy theories that he is leaving.

ochytoon sorry to say you can get the rrod the kid’s brand new one rrod out the box after about 6 hours of use, if they spent as much on the system as they do on preventing flashing they might just work.

  • 160 JackButler // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:36 PM

  • 161 ochytoon // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:38 PM

Can I ask what is a rrod?

  • 163 TemuriKetsbaia // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:41 PM

If Tiote does miss the first few games of the season due to this visa business, it will have rendered the act of leaving him out of the last few games to avoid suspension, pointless.

The addition of Cheik in those last few games could have secured us 9th place, an extra few million in the coffers and a lovely bonus for the tea lady.

Another scoop of delicious irony ladled onto the Newcastle debacle.

  • 168 dave 1961 // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:54 PM

ochytoon if it breaks under warrenty and they offer you a replacement tell them u have only used it for 10 hours and you want that one repaired they will refuse this, so then take it back to the shop and ask for a refund, even after 364 days they have to give you a refund then buy a new one with another 12 months warranty, after the 12 months return it under the sale of goods act as this give you s right to have electrical goods repaired free of charge for 6 years from date of purchase. and if they refuse take them to the small claims court if you have your receipt you will win the claim then you can have reasonable expenses to. about 2 % of the population do this and 2% win. a consumer has never failed as the law says that if you develop a fault within a reasonable time the fault was deemed to be in the product at time of sale. that is why a company always tells you that a 12 month guarantee does not interferer with your statuary rights, and the courts established that branded electrical products should last 6 years.

  • 169 Offkey // Aug 5, 2011 at 5:59 PM

Agree with Dave1961 on most of what he says but the sales of goods act (beleive somewhere between sections 45 to 55 – but I will beexact if you want) states that it is up to the company to decide to repair, refund or replace unless you have been so inconveinienced and then you can choose………I have taken these to court previously and thats the law.

According to a Frenchman I have just been talking to, Yohan Cabaye is an astonishing player.
He told me that we have got a REAL bargain when we bought Cabaye.
From what I was told by this PSG fan, who did know his stuff, we will be delighted this coming season.
AND to buck the trend, he had a very POSITIVE impression of NUFC, and it would seem a lot of the French have a similar opinion !

Tonytoon73 I wouldn’t represent myself so I don’t get overconfident, and I get into to many fights that I should just let go, its one thing no one getting the upper hand but sometimes its best to just walk away. its funny I often help my friends with things. I have won some battles that I never got a fraction of what it cost to fight so its always best to know when to walk away. unfortunately I never seem to learn.
