Gabriel Obertan To Join Newcastle Early Next Week

The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan has agreed to join Newcastle United.

Gabriel Obertan – on his way to Newcastle?

We don’t know if the news is true, but there seems a lot of detail in their report.

The Mail is reporting the 22 year-old has agreed a five year deal at Newcastle, and the move will be completed early next week.

There was news a couple of days ago that Newcastle were keen on the talented winger, who has great speed down the wing, and it seems Gabriel was also keen to join Newcastle, where he will certainly get a lot more games than he enjoyed in his two seasons with the Red Devils.

The French Under-21 international played only 28 times over two years with one goal for United, and he asked to leave the club last January to get more playing time at another club.

Gabriel fits the profile of young players Newcastle want to bring to Tyneside, and then develop them further at the club, and this lad certainly has lots of skill, and can play on either wing, and even up front as a striker.

The news is that Obertan has already discussed personal terms and is willing to sign on at Newcastle.

We hope this news is true because this lad could do very well at Newcastle, and he can be an exciting player.

The fee is said to be £3M which is what Manchester United paid Bordeaux for him two years ago.

We’re being linked to Barcelona’s Kerrison now, also for 3m.

Like Obertan was very highly rated a couple of years ago.

Makes you wonder where Reading plucked the £7m figure from for Long.

reminds me of when nani was younger, might just need a run of games for a confidence boost. Surely can be better than what routledge was, as he seemed to be afraid to try and beat a player

I never really paid much attention to him, but i don’t think he’s had much of a chance at Manure, so hopefully he can turn out to be a good player.

Plays a heck of a lot like Menez! Very good piece of business, if it’s true. “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!”

I have a feeling that this story has something too it… Well hopefully anyway!

There’s been plenty of people on here talking about us not signing any more players at all (and it’s hard to argue against it at the moment) – so this would have to be a positive!!

Good age, plenty of raw talent, maybe a point to prove, and amongst other top class French players if he signs… 🙂

The Mail is very sure of itself on this one; lets hope it’s true.
    I assume he’s a Wayne Routledge replacement,
I wonder if he can play at left back?

Don’t know much about him, but for 3-4 mil its worth a go because of his age and possible development. I see him strictly as depth but depth is what we need.

If he leave Man U for a similar amount to they paid for him, it will seem like Fergie has just given up hope on him breaking through into their first team.

There are certainly some cases where Fergie has let decent players go – but NOT TOO many!

Where we are in terms of stature in the Prem at the moment though, ‘not quite good enough’ for them might be ‘established regular’ for us…

Nobody can say we are anyway near their level at the moment!!

I remember him back when he played for Bordeaux; he seemed to be a great prospect.

He hasn’t really progressed in Man Utd. so hard to say whether it’ a good deal or not. But surely at £ 3 mil. it’s not really that big a gamble

And as archaeomag says, he’d be a replacement for Routledge, who he sold for £ 2 mil. Fat Mick is not using any money is he 😉 hehe

@TemuriKetsbaia do you know if their is any truth to the Kerrison link?

Bags of skill in this lad but his end product has been questioned.

He’s never had even a sniff at a run in Manure’s 1st team though and I think with a decent chance he might turn out to be a great buy.

TBH am just really glad we’re going to be adding to our squad.

2 more, Striker and LB I think before the window shuts. At least 1 on deadline day I have no doubt at all. A bargain budget surpise is just round the corner, place ur bets now on who it will be?

(Please Adam Johnson on loan, please Adam Johnson on loan. ) lol

I just want to see more bodies through the door at the moment and as long as their not big money, paper chasing signings or lower league, desperation signings, then it’s only good for the competition within the squad…

Not like Ferguson to ship out a youngster not long after he signed. Seems a little strange, hope he hasn’t given up on him and its just down to the lad not having the chance of much game time. Hopefully if we do get him and he is given minutes on the pitch he will come into his own. Disagree about him being a better player than Routledge though. The lad hasn’t had the chance to show what he is capable of at man u and I certainly don’t think he has looked better than Wayne in those appearances. Still, its someone through the door if he comes which is all I ask. Rather him than Raylor and so on.

As i have said earlier this day, i don’t know much aboit Obertan for he have leaved France early and at the time, he was not a major player in Bordeaux, just a good hope.

He’s considered as a gifted guy who have make a very bad career choice, for MU was far to big for him.

Strength? His ability to eliminate his opponent in man to man situation ( perfect for a winger).

Weakness? Lack of regularity, and in love with the ball ,so he don’t like to see the other guys touch her, even if they wear the same jersey than him…

But, well, don’t take this too seriously, as i’ve said, i don’t know him much.

Ile believe it if he,s wearing the shirt next wk, he ,s nothing special IMO tho.
he,s goy pace but very little end product,we need a striker, not yet another midfielder.

Sell Routledge for £2m and get Obertan for £3m. Very good business imo. Get a good striker and a lb and we’ll have a pretty strong squad.

He can play on both the wings i think. Don’t expect too much of him this season, for he need to play. If he do so, he can be great next season.

Well, it will depend of his behavior in training. If his MU’s experience have teached him one thing or two, he can maybe improve with NUFC.

As you can see on the link of David_NUFC, he can do some impressive stuffs with the ball.

    Danish 🙂 correct!

Regarding Jakob Fuglsang; as far as I know there is no family ties between us – but hi, you never know if you go far enough back 🙂

He’s from the middle part of Jutland and I’m from the northern part of Jutland. The name referrers to my great grand dads place of birth. It means “Birdsong”.

He’s got pace and a lot of skill, something which is rare in footballers today. People said Nani lacked end product a couple of years ago, now look at him. We need a right winger as we haven’t got one in the squad and I’m sure we’ll sign a striker before the window closes, how good the striker will be I don’t know.

He’ll be adored by our fans, if he can dazzle, delight and put a few defenders on their backsides.

I’m going to say it: better than Zog at the comparative age.

i saw him playing couple of time, quite pacey winger but sometimes he “afraid” to dribble past defenders – same like routledge

however he will be a good signing 🙂
