Interested Clubs Cannot Match Barton’s Wages At Newcastle

There were reports last night that Wigan had taken a firm interest in Joey Barton.

Joey Barton – Wigan interested in taking the player

And the news from Lee Ryder of the Evening Chronicle is that Rochdale also registered a rather cheeky interest in the player, who is still available on a free transfer from Newcastle.

We’re not sure what Joey is looking for, but if it is European competition and a wage that is near what he’s been getting at Newcastle for the last four years, which is said to be a little north of £60K/week, he will not get that at Wigan.

Everton registered an interest earlier in the week, and we thought the club may appeal to Joey because it’s his home town club, but the Toffees couldn’t match Joey’s wages.

And the other club said to be interested late last week was Stoke City, who also were unlikely to be able to match the Liverpudlian’s wages either.

The Wigan owner Dave Whelan said this last night:

“I would say ‘Roberto, I’m backing you’. He’s the boss and I let him be the boss. If Roberto would like to sign Barton, I’d try to get him.”

“When you watch Joey play, he’s a good player, make no mistake about that.”  “I’ve never met the lad but people have told me that he’s a bit difficult to handle, he’s a bit hot-headed.”

“I think a football club should keep itself to itself, especially with the players and the staff.”   “I just think Joey should calm down, play football, because he’s a very, very good player, and my advice would be to be quiet, say nothing, and go on the field and do your stuff.”

That’s good advice from Dave, and we only hope that Joey will take it,  but that’s also what Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been telling the lad after he totally disrupted things at the game at Leeds last Sunday.

The clubs that are coming in for Joey should tell the player something, and even though there are constant reports that Manchester United are interested in him, at best he would be a squad player there,  and he wouldn’t get too many games.

Not a situation we think Joey would like at all.

Barton will not be involved today in the home game against Fiorentina, and was not involved in the Newcastle Reserves’ 2-1 win at Ashington last night either.

Comments welcome.

Haha so Wigans interest is based on (and this is guessing) Whelan being asked if he wants to sign Barton and he didnt say no

    Magic that

    1) no club can match Barton’s wages

    2) Barton stay till the end of contract

    3) we won’t renew his contract

    4) Barton free agent but NO club want him (demand high wages + attitude)

    5) Barton become a full time twitter journalist

Blimey… another frenchman!! Still sounds like he’s keen to come and play so fair play. Didn’t sound like it took much persuading if deal is actually done. That’s what we want players to want to pull on the shirt and play. Maybe JB will have a change of heart, I hope so.

\hopefully his ego might have been popped and he might realise his skills are playing football rather than giving advice on running a football club. How big must your ego be to pass your opinion off as “the truth”. I would love to see Joey play great football for nufc next season and have respect for everybody around him. But I really don’t think he is capable of thinking of anyone as equals.

For all you have done for the toon, including being part of the great group of lads who got us relegated, the club are bigger than any player. No matter what is said and done, you should show some dignity and keep things in house. Move on, and take Jose, Ashley and Lambias and the rest of the jokers who are destroying our club with you.

I Think Within a few Weeks Joey Will be Back in the Squad and Play at The Stadium Of Shite !!!!! He won’t be able to Handle Not Being Involved in the Squad etc and I Think Pardew Wants Him Back Aswell… He is a Player we Need Badly !!!! I think we will get battered against Arsenal and he will have to come back …

Regardless of our MF options losing Barton would be a blow as he’s a leader on the pitch, a fighter, he works hard, tracks and tackles and at the moment he’s pretty much the only player who can play RM! Just remember all the top performances he’s put in over the last couple of seasons. he may need to keep his gob shut but he loves the club and loves the fans, it’s just the overheads he loathes. I still find it hard to believe other clubs won’t match his wages, esp. Everton and Man Utd. Also I’m not sure where these sources are coming from. I think if we let him go he’ll definitely get snapped up and we will regret it. He’s mananged to turn his violent life around, so who’s to say he won’t learn from this and keep his opinions to himself? (Or at least off twitter!)

ive been reading that we did not win a game when barton did not play last season, am i surprised, no, reason being numpty nuts r. taylor or guthrie or smith played instead weve lot more options now in midfield if someone gets injured and pardew should have introduced ferguson in to the frame a lot earlier but he would not play youngins over seniors big mistake if seniors are not doing a job and they were not, the afore mentioned r.taylor smith and guthrie have to be shipped down to the championship were they truely belong.
