Pardew Confirms Gabriel Obertan Is Coming To Toon

After another frustrating day in the life of a Newcastle United football manager,  Alan Pardew has said that Gabriel Obertan is indeed coming to Newcastle.

Gabriel Obertan – coming to Toon

Newcastle had even more bad luck today,  when torrential rain caused the last pre-season friendly with Fiorentina to be abandoned after just 64 minutes, when the score was 0-0.

And Obertan arriving on Tyneside is of course contingent on Gabriel passing a medical on Monday, but this lad has skill and pace,  and we really think he could be a good addition to the squad.

Here is Alan talking on the radio about Gabriel coming to Toon after the game today, and here is Sky video with Alan talking about Gabriel.

This is what the manager sdaid about Obertan:

“All being well, the deal will be pushed through next week.”

“He’s not really had the chance to shine at Old Trafford but he has pace to burn and will bring some much needed sharpness to our side.”

And the Newcastle manager also talked about Jose Enrique, and the Spaniard had a really good game today, and Alan talked about how good a player he is (yes we know that Alan), and of course Pardew wants him to stay at Newcastle.

But we think there is little hope of that, but if  Jose is still at the club next Saturday, he will play against Arsenal.

We have to think that Liverpool will want to wrap up a deal for Jose fairly soon, as long as they can agree a decent fee with Newcastle.

And of course since the ban on tweets went into force a few days ago, we haven’t heard anything at all from a certain tweeter in chief – Joey Barton.

But Joey blotted his copy book last week with the club, and he soon needs to decide if he wants to be part of the team for this coming season.

If he doesn’t,  then Newcastle will have to hope they can unload him to some other team, somewhere, and that should surely be possible, since Newcastle are asking nothing for him.

All the players on Tyneside need to be rowing the Newcastle boat in the same direction this season.

Comments welcome.

If he is really that good why wasn’t getting more games at ManU. I here a rumor about a lad called Keirrison from Barca. Any idea what this lad is like?

Not being negative (ok, I am) but we’ve had poor man u rejects in the past. Do we really need another midfielder?

I’m curious to see how he’ll do and at the very least he’s MUCH better than Mr. 9 clubs Routledge

We really need someone to play on the right wing and signing Obertan adds to that option. We seriously need a striker though.

I agree, we a striker is a priority. Jonas right, marveaux left. I hope obertan can prove man u wrong, won’t hold my breath though.

Glad to hear it. Fleet-of-foot, searing pace and plenty of tricks 😀

Bit of a wildcard right now, but hopefully he can become a potent, consistent threat; if he does, then 3m will seem like a snip.

Game today was a shambles, one of the worst Newcastle games I have ever witnessed, the rain did spoil things aswell.
Krul- best player on the pitch
    Simpson – average
Taylor- looked his usual self – ok
    Collocini – decent
    Enrique – hope he stays
Cabaye – ok but defo a holding Centre midfielder – not going to score much – Will he work with Tiote.????
Jihad- same old, no end product
    Gosling – average
    Lovenpants- useless
    Best – useless
Vukic- tried hard, but nowt special

Marveaux – looks lively but didn’t really do anything, looked like Routledge but on the left( I hope he does well though)
Shola – looked better than Ba by a mile
    Ba- looks injured? Limping?
Rtaylor, didn’t touch the ball – ref blew and abandoned

Overall crap game, need a native improvement
Hopefully Obertan in next week to start on the right another striker to start.

    We need strikers x2
    Defenders x 2

We need to spend a little bit of dosh! 2m for rout 2.5 for oberon! The fairy king! So net spend do far 1m ish? Plus wage reductions….,

Hate the fat f11cka more than ever and all who think he has done any single thing good for us fans!!!

give obertan a chance i say. He has looked good at times for man u but never gets a run. The man u fans i have talked to say when he is given a run of 2 or 3 starts he has always looked decent. But i agree at the v least we need a striker and lb cover

No need to proove man utd wrong, Sir alex has been put under pressure from Obertan for 1st team action and because there is so many players in the pecking order above him due to age and experiance then he’s agreed to let him go, if you had been able to listen to the interview alex ferguson put out earlier on mutv (Sorry i was around a mates house and he had it on) anyway he said he was a cracking young lad that had a bright future ahead of him and thought he would do well at newcastle really wanted to keep the lad at Man Utd but didn’t feel he could hold him back any longer.
I also think the lad will do well he’s only been given a handful of starts at man u and hardly any have been back to back

    hit enter to early whoops.

and I really think we should make an effort to sign him although he would be reluctant to leave because he is a loyal player howver he got on well with Pardew and that could work in our favour. He scored a great goal today.
My second recommendation is Max Gradel, although Leeds lost 3-1, Gradel really stood out to me. He has such pace and skill at his feet that he can make something out of nothing, great little player. My only problem with him is that he gets stroppy when it doesn’t go in his favour. Got himslef booked today because he shouted at the ref and threw a tantrum after fouling a Southampton player. Still, he is a quick player with lots of flair who I think we should go for

Not exactly true as he’s been twitting all day by the looks of it and the most “telling” one imo is:

    Joey7Barton Joseph Barton
Its good to see AFC Wimbledon back in the league, a true fairytale story. It shows how powerful fans can be if motivated correctly

When I have seen him play he runs around with no idea what to do.
He does have his day of master-class but he is a very much off and then on sort of player.
If we rotate him in with Guti? on the right and find a combination of Obertan’s best days and Guti’s best days I think we could be in for a treat.
Obertan’s best days I believe would come at teams lower in the league or teams with slowish back fours whereas Guti often produces his best play on the bigger stage. E.G Chelsea and Man U last season.
    Thoughts people?

Havent questioned his talent! Merely stated SAF never sells good players into this league! Both yourself and I have not the foggiest if he us a good player in this league or not! Though I’d say he’s very average in the short few games I seen him play :-s but he will still get benefit of doubt!!!

My real gripe bout this is do we really need another midfielder?

Of course we’ll get behind him but I’m not bowled over. That’s just my opinion. It’s a case of looking for a cheaper option with a big question mark over him… some say he’ll be great after a run in the side, some say he’s no better than what we have and manure don’t let top, young talent move to other premier sides.. who knows?

Zog was 10mil for a reason – he’s a proven match winner in this league. 3mil buys you a punt .. so we’ll have to see..

Also he will have been assured of regular starts which is always a bit of a worry for me – with a few others already vying for the wide slots. And he looks like the guy out of Hot Fuzz who says ‘yarp’.

At the game today and have to say the ref made the right decision in abandoning it as it was becoming impossible to move the ball around in the puddles and tackles were starting to look quite dangerous.
Krul made 3 tremendous saves and he has to be No. 1 this season.
Simpson and Taylor played OK. Coloccini as immaculate as ever – does this guy ever get flustered?
Enrique – great game with plenty of appetite – for who’s benefit though – us or the shop window?
Gosling – decent shift – looked pretty fit which is a step in the right direction.
Vuckic – confident on the ball but needs to impose himself a bit more on the game
Cabaye – already looking like our midfield general – wants the ball all the time and links everyone up really well . Should be a great partnership with Cheik.
Ba – Didn’t do a lot. Similarly, Best who is NOT good enough for a one man striker role.
Shola – did even less. Decided early on he wasn’t going to get too involved in the conditions. Lazy bu***r!
Jonas – some excellent footwork and happy to take defenders on. Pleased to see him come off at half time as I could see someone wanting to take him out for his tricks.
Marveaux – wasn’t on long enough to form an opinion.
Considering the conditions both teams knocked the ball around well and tried to play football.
Still crying out for a class striker though. It’s a MUST!
