The Sunday Sun is reporting today that it’s their understanding that Newcastle are going after Spurs’ striker Roman Pavyluchenko.
Roman Pavyluchenko – new target
The local newspaper is reporting that Newcastle have added the striker to their target list.
Roman had an excellent 2008 European Championships for Russia before he signed on at Tottenham, where he’s been in and out of the side.
It seems Newcastle are now concentrating on going after players already playing on the home shores, after their pursuits of Kevin Gameiro and Mevlut Erdinc went nowhere, after weeks and weeks of trying to persuade the strikers to come to Newcastle.
The new tactic should presumably make it easier for players to move to Newcastle, well that’s the thinking anyway.
The 29 year-old Russian striker we think would be welcomed on Tyneside, although the 6’2″ striker is a bit old, and doesn’t fit the normal profile of players Newcastle seem to want to buy.
Roman has played 40 times for Russia with 19 goals, and has played 99 times for Spurs with 38 goals since moving from Spartak Moscow in 2008, where he scored 109 goals in 187 appearances.
We think he could do very well at Newcastle.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #8He and Ba would be a pretty handful partnership (however nufc arn’t playing 442. I’d hope we would’nt pay more than 3m to be honest
but we arn’t in for him he’s too old and can you imagine his wages, must be astronomical.

Comment #9Right age for a footballer, but too old to be an Ashley employee.
Since when is 29 too old?

Comment #10after watching the highlights of the fiorentina game that somebody posted on an earlier thread, its glaringly obvious that we need a new right back. Danny simpson has no heading capabilities, and gives it away all too easily. It must be a complete ball breaker playing beside the guy, I always liked him in the championship but i think thats where he belongs.
Id prefer to have somebody else in there – even giving raylor a go at it. The problem with simpson tho is he seems to create pressure for the team out of nothing, long ball down and he heads it straight to the feet of the opposition – 5 yards away. Just get rid of it – even put it out

Comment #12probably the best spuds striker IMO .. but seeing that theres a plethera of decent strikers on the continent this sounds like bullsh*t to sell papers .. anyway Ashleys not gonna invest any of carrolls money .. seeing as he and he’s cronnies are crooks.

Comment #19The fact he’s a spuds player makes it viable I guess, given FCB’s a fan of theirs!! He may be able to pull a few strings with his mates for a cut-price “Sports Direct Superdeal”!!!!
Still, they have only known about the replacement striker problem since January – you cant expect them to rush these things. I mean, season kick-off is still a week away!!!!
What a shower.

Comment #22Yes,Simpson is a major liability and from what ve seen of Gervinho,he likes to run at the RB so we cant afford to have Simmo backing off all the way into our box

Comment #23You wouldn’t think it to hear people going on, but Abeid, Marveux, Cabaye, Ba and Obertain = 5 players in, Nolan = 1 player out.
Just need 2/3 more and we’re good to go.

Comment #24Think the guy would be a great signing but it aint gonna happen. Maximum 5 or 6 million outlay on any individual player. salary demands will also blow the deal out the water.

Comment #26The good old Sunday Sun eh.
Never get anything right until AFTER the event.
Remember the Neil Farrington EXCLUSIVES week after week when he was with the paper. It became a standing joke.
Not one of them ever came true.
Remember Robbie Keane would be here within the week??
Mind the other two (Journal and Chron ) just as bad.
No journalistic skill whatever.
The only time Sunday Sun had somebody decent was a reporter called Alan Sleeman who told it exactly as he thought – even brutal at times.
Newcastle barred him and that was the last we heard of him.
A long time ago which shows that it is not just the present Board that “dont like it up them”

Comment #32Have to agree with most people here. Sadley very unlikley to happen. With FCB in charge players as good as this are v unlikley to pull on a toon shirt, which is a shame as i’d take anyone with close to a 2 to 1 goal ratio.

Comment #33just wonder what this ageism thing mike ashley has? if he did that in his retail business he would have trouble on his hands!!! maybe he wants to create a gary glitter 11, i dont think we can rule out any1 4 age as long as they fit the bill
