Things are not great at the moment at Newcastle, but there has been some good news this pre-season.
Haris Vuckic – an exiting prospect at Newcastle
One of them is the re-emergence of one of our top youngsters, Slovenian U21 International Haris Vuckic, and the 18 year-old has looked very good when he’s been in the Newcastle first team in pre-season, and he’s played quite a few games.
The 6’3″ Slovenian can play in central midfield or as a withdrawn striker, and certainly he has shown he can score goals for Newcastle, and could be a very good impact substitute for the Magpies next season.
Vuckic scored against Leeds United and the Columbus Crew, and also had a perfectly good goal disallowed at Orlando, and the youngster again played very well on Saturday afternoon against Fiorentina in difficult conditions, before the match had to be abandoned after 64 minutes.
The Slovenian turns 19 on 21st August, and he has talked to the local Newcastle press corps today:
“I was injured last season, and had no luck,” “Now I’m fit, I want to play, score goals and make the fans happy.”
“It was quite a good pre-season for me. I hope to play against Arsenal, and if the gaffer gives me the chance. He knows he will get the maximum from me.”
“In the first half I played attacking midfield, and when Dan Gosling went off I was more of general midfield role,”
“It was good for me. We tried to move the ball around and play with a quick tempo.” “We expected to get the game finished and play another 90 minutes, which we needed.”
“Before the game we were hoping for good weather, but sadly for us and Fiorentina we couldn’t finish.’ “We got 64 minutes. It was OK, but it was hard to play in those conditions. We tried our best.”
“In the game itself, we were unlucky not to score but maybe next time. Hopefully, against Arsenal!” “The ball wasn’t even moving properly by the end, and when you tried to pass, it was just holding up in the water.”
“The guys were trying to pass the ball about, but we tried our best.” “There were some positives. We passed the ball around fluidly and we kept a clean sheet.”
Haris comes across as a terrific young professional with an excellent temperament, and the fact he looks class on the filed as well as off it, gives us some great hopes for this lad.
Newcastle are not exactly tearing things up in the transfer market this summer, and will get nowhere near spending anything close to £35M, in transfer fees this summer.
But we do have some great young players coming through, and let’s hope that some of Newcastle’s top young players like Haris, Shane Ferguson, Tamas Kadar, Sammy Ameobi and James Tavernier can come through big time this coming season.
If they can do that, then the Newcastle squad will not be in too bad a shape after all.
Comments welcome.

Comment #12Vuckic is definitely looking the part at NUFC.
Personally, he should play CAM all match for Arsenal. He plays that position for his country so why not for us? We have enough Central Midfielders as is it.
Also, it’ll mean cover for HBA when/if he needs time to get fit.
… Tempted to get him on the back of my new NUFC.

Comment #143 caps for his country and 1 goal at 18 is impressive. Regardless of oposition. I’d like to see him play a bit this year or be involved off the bench a lot more. Hopefully he stays fit though!

Aye, he’s having at journalists now. He’s part of the reason why Newcastle are a laughingstock at times.
Ffs, can we not shift him quicker? I want him out, prefferably a different country altogether.
Cant stand the arrogant prick.

Scott Dann will join Stoke by Friday after the two clubs finally agreed a fee of £7.5 million.
The offer made by Stoke is only marginally better than their previous offer but Birmingham are in desperate need of any available finance. It is unlikely Stoke will sign Cameron Jerome because they have turned their attention to Newcastle’s Alan Smith and Fulham’s Andrew Johnson.

Grant Holt of Norwich City has a tough decision to make.
Newcastle have lodged a reported 3.5 million bid, this is likely to be turned down but Holt may be drawn into a drama being that he is a boyhood fan of the club and from the area.
I CERTAINLY WOULDNT SAY NO TO HIM

Comment #36Vuckic will be a 20m player in 3 seasons… we will do well to hang onto him… Fair play to AP on this one as I thought that we could have lost this lad… nice ball mover – Clever eye for a pass and shot and nice left foot plus only a young one… bright star fro future – Slovenian Gasgoigne.
