Since Alan Pardew talked to the press after the abandoned game with Fiorentina on Saturday afternoon, there have been rumors circulating that there was a chance that Jose Enrique could stay at Newcastle.
Jose Enrique – we hope he stays!
Couple that wit the news yesterday that Alan Pardew was in Holland watching potential replacement PSV Eindhoven full-back Erik Pieters, and it’s hard to know what to think.
But the fact that Alan Pardew has said the squad needs to bring in two new players this week, may be a hint that if Newcastle further strengthen their squad quickly, with a couple of good players, Jose may decide to stay at the club, and even sign his new contract.
That’s the bottom line, but we should know this week whether he’s coming or going, since there is now only 23 days left in the transfer window, and Liverpool may want to act this week.
And even if Liverpool have supposedly agreed a £5.5M fee with Newcastle, they still have to agree terms with the Spanish U21 International, and Enrique may find it out those terms are not as good as what’s on offer at Newcastle.
Jose looked very good on Saturday, for the 64 minutes the game lasted, and if he decides to stay it will be a huge boon and confidence booster for the club and of course the fans.
Couple that with the fact that Joey Barton will meet with Managing Director Derek Llambias either tomorrow or on Wednesday, and if there is a good outcome to those talks, Joey could even stay on Tyneside as well, at least for next season.
Here’s what Alan Pardew said about Enrique after the Fiorentina game:
“No bids, he was terrific on Saturday against a very good player,”
“I keep looking at him and smiling, hoping he is going to stay,” “He smiles but hasn’t signed a contract yet.”
“He was terrific against a very good player against Fiorentina and showed why I want to keep him.”
We’re not sure what to believe on Jose Enrique, but if he stays that would be stellar news for Newcastle fans, and we certainly need some good news this week – fact!

Comment #1Rofl, Pards quote is hillarious.
Given Enriques twitter rant, i’d say im pretty convinced he’s leaving.
Jesus, i hope he stays anyway.

Comment #2If Jose stays (won’t happen) we should still bring in Pieters as back up/competition
Obertan today though hopefully and a striker wouldn’t go a miss at some point before the weekend

Aye, and maybe we will draft him in, but i doubt it.
Some say we were looking at the PSV striker aswell, Ola Toivonen. Swedish player, 25 years old, has a decent score rate.
However, i dont rate swedish strikers, as they always tend to flop in the PL. We’ve had our own swedish striker in Andersson under Dalglish was it?

Comment #7I think we should get PSV LB in anyway and Enrique can do what he likes!! He wont have Guti at LUFC so his game will be back to 2007 season – Awful!!! Like a blind bull…

Comment #10Dannyo – Henrik Larsson did alright at Man Utd.
I would love Enrique to stay, but if he really doesn’t seem keen to. That said, Newcastle need to let EVERYBODY know that if there are no offers by the end of theis week, he’s going nowhere and will have to either wait until January, see out his final year, or sign a new contract.
We should be looking for cover anyway.

Comment #11Jose and Joey will stay I think, now that they know that the board can play hard ball too and they will know that this club has given them more than they can get from other clubs.

Dont think theres any chance Bull is staying this summer like. As it gets closer to the end of the window MA is going to lower the price as he’ll want to at least get something for him rather than losing him on a free next summer.
Would love him to stay, new contract or not, but it just won’t happen like.

Comment #14Who’s the very good fiorentina player Jose was up against (Jovetic??) I Say any RW that manages to ruffle Jose is very very good. Last season I think only Adam Johnson (away) managed that (and he was on as a late sub) The likes of Lennon and Walcott never get anything past him.

Comment #18A hypothetical idea:
If we achieve well this season, come January we’re sitting at around 8-6th somewhere, and El Toro is still here, think theres any chance he’d consider signing on?
Yes yes, i know it’s far fetched, but would you think that it’d be enough to convince him to stay?

Comment #20@Thai-mag – I’ve never known you once say anything positive about the club. Is there not one single thing you approve of?
I mean, jesus, I couldn’t support a team if I was so apathetic about every aspect.

Comment #23@Dannyo – I reckon that would convince him to stay if he was still here. However unless we get a new striker at least, we won’t be anywhere near 6th-8th lol.

Lets hope it gets done quick, i need something to cheer about, and Oberdan excites me. Still young, tricky with lots of pace, can only get better.

Comment #36Eastender I know what you mean… I am just not so confortable with Ap being “best pals” with Fergie… Conversation like this…
AP: Alright big Alex – this place is a nightmare – anything we can do to sort this shothile out?
Fergie: Ban Twitter and also if you want some good french players – take Obertan hes too good for us.
AP: Thanks Alex – That so kind of you.
Fergie: My pleasure (Smirk)

Comment #38I’ve not seen much of Obertan, but the fortunate thing about him being from Man Utd is that you can find their fans all over the South of England (!).
Only one of my friends has said anything about him, which was a text that read “Obertan. Fast, good shot, good cross, funny shaped head”. I know a lot of people on here have been saying he has no end product, but Man Utd fans on other blogs seem to want to keep hold of him. They also seem to think he hasn’t been given his chance to shine.
I’m thinking that he doesn’t get into the starting eleven much under Fergie because Fergie has so much quality available to him (being far down the pecking order at ManU doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not good enough, it just means that they have better, and they have quality in abundance). The word is that he put in a transfer request in February, so I don’t see him as a “reject”.
What you think?

Comment #39@Dannyo – Fair enough – but we need better than low confidence players.. I mean 3m foer someone who doesnt have confidence in their own ability – come on… ffs… and also the fact that we seem to “know our place” – not a big team… WTF?? We are and always have been… we need to get the mentality that arrogant Steve Bruce… think big.

Comment #40@ichrisho – I don’t know that much about him, but never really rated him.
However the majority of fans on the man u blogs reckon he’s one for the future and would much prefer to loan him rather than sell him.
