Obertan – I’m Going To Love It At Newcastle!

Gabriel Obertan has signed on  at Newcastle, and that’s hardly surprising, but Ober could also turn out to be an excellent signing for the Toon.

Gabriel Obertan – welcome aboard!!

Gabriel Obertan is clear that he has signed for one of England’s most famous clubs, if not particularly the most successful  clubs of late.

It seems that Obertan knew all about the history Newcastle United before even Newcastle came after him, and let’s face it, it’s a great history – even if I am absolutely and hopelessly biased on that!

😀

Graham Carr, the Chief Scout said yesterday that he gets players to read up on the history of the Newcastle United club,  and they are invariably impressed with what they read, and it makes it easier to attract them to the Toon.

6′ 1″ tall Gabriel, as expected,  has signed a new five year contract at Newcastle, and the 22 year-old has this to say to the official Newcastle site:

“I’m just really happy to be here because this is still a big club for me.”  “It wasn’t really a difficult decision to come here.”

“I spent two good years in Manchester but it was a bit difficult with the competition and I really needed a club where I could play more games.”

“I know it won’t be easy to play each game here, because there’s a good group, but I want a fresh start in my football.”

“I’ve heard a lot about the fans, the atmosphere, the passion around the club and the way the city is just behind the club 100 per cent,”

“So I think I’m going to love it.”

Not sure why, but I’m over the moon with this signing, and  maybe that’s because it’s Newcastle’s first signing since June 18th.

But also Gabriel could become a big crowd favorite at the club, and it’s completely up to him, and this lad certainly has the skill and speed to be  a big hit on Tyneside.

And it’s good to see Derek LLambias in the photograph, as the Geordie fans need to see and hear a lot more from Derek, on what’s going on at Newcastle.

We are delighted to have Obertan on board.

Howay The Lads!!

Comments welcome.

Good purchase, long contract! Liking the French Revolution.

A striker and I will consider this window a shining success, with a much stronger squad that the season past!

    Excited now!

ManU fans seem to be raging that it wasnt a loan deal albeit someone did mention that Taggart has put a Buy-back clause in… If he is a late bloomer like Rossie and Forlan – Boys we have a winner on our hands!! I can only say now we have one of the best Midfields in the league…. On the break we will be something else… HWTL… 🙂

Nicklas Bendtner is saying he is Leaving Arsenal Before the Transfer Window Closes and its up to the Clubs to sort it out but has spoken to a few Intrested Parties … he is 23 years old and a Striker !!!! He fits the Bill For Us so Maybe we will Put a Bid in ?? Must be better than the Yids Strikers we are looking at etc !!! or Long Even !!!!

Nice point, just hope that he turns out to be as good as Zog, if not better!

Let’s hope his lack of PL exp doesn’t hinder him! I reckopn we can give him the base to kick on from!

@15 – bendtner is a plank!!! His team-mates despise him and no-one really wants him. His dad is his agent and also a senior plank. We dont need him… fur coat no knickers…

    Pardew on Obertan’s arrival…

“it wasn’t until Wayne Routledge joined Swansea that we were able to bring him in”

Seriously, what are we supposed to read into that?

He’s an improvement on Routledge so thats a good sign, tbh I’d be pretty delighted with this summer if we could get Erik Pieters and Ola Toivonen, the latter was also mentioned in the report linking us to Pieters and he’s top quality.

25 year old Swedish international with a bit of pace who is also excellent in the air.

It wouldn’t have been a bad summer if we can name this team when HBA returns

    Krul
Simpson Collo Tayls Pieters / Jose
    Tiote Cabaye
    Barton HBA Gutierrez
    Ba

Still leaves us with Obertan, Gosling (Who i expect will fill in for HBA until his return), Guthire, Ferguson and Marveux.

With Ola Toivonen, Best and Shola supporting Ba, in that order, we have some decent options in attack, and Lovenkrands can still be useful on his day.

I’m pretty happy for Raylor to back up Simmo and Williamson and Kadar as CB cover but if/when Jose goes, we’re left with the year long problem of no LB cover, unless we’re counting on Drummett and Tav.

Not looking too bad if we can get two more in eh?

Most ManUre fans wanted this to be a loan deal rather than perminent, they all think that with some game time this lad can be a great player for them – reportedly looking to be a long term replacement for Giggs or Park!

We have enough, players in the senior 25 who qualify as home grown:

    Harper
    Krul
    Forster

    S Taylor
    Williamson
    Simpson
    R Taylor
    Perch

    Barton
    Guthrie
    Smith

    Best
    Ameobi

    We only need 8.

    Indian Magpie

They don’t have to be English, they just have to have played in England for 3 years before their 21st birthday.

Barton, Smith, Harper, Forster, Raylor, Saylor, Guthrie, Ameobi, Ameobi #2, Simpson, Tavernier, Ferguson, Best, Ranger.. I’m probably forgetting some as well

And if you are say, 2 short of the requirement, you simply have to leave 2 empty spaces in your squad registration.

Along with the fact that under 21’s don’t HAVE to be registered (but can to make up numbers if need be), and I’d say we’re fiiiiine 🙂

@Meeks and CardBoy – I think we will be able to get teams in the last 20 minutes on the break. With all the boys being french-speaking from Tiote up to the flanks and central midfield – I think we will have a much much quicker thinking passing and moving side. Clever move by AP – maybe his liason with Fergie is not so bad after all. You does owe us 2 league titles Taggart. 🙂
