Obertan Impressed With Alan Pardew’s Plans for Newcastle

There seems little doubt that 22 year-old Gabriel Obertan is delighted to have joined Newcastle United today.

Gabriel Obertan – impressed with Pardew speech on Newcastle

In his interviews since signing along the dotted line today, what comes across with the French 22 year-old is a great excitement, and whatever Alan told the lad about his plans for the future of Newcastle, it certainly impressed Gabriel.

Obertan says Alan gave him a great speech which pleased him a lot.  We’d like to hear that speech too!

Obertan joins Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and 18 year-old Mehdi Abeid as five French-born and French speaking players who all have lots of skills and will change the way in which Newcastle play, and for the better too.

And when you think that Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling has but five appearance sin total between them last season, then Newcastle have seven new players so far this summer, with a left back and striker likely to still arrive before September 1st rolls around.

And if we can get those last two players through the door, that would be seven new players on Tyneside, and effectively nine new players with Ben Arfa and Gosling included, which is  not too bad at all.

Gabriel spoke to the local Newcastle press corps today:

“I already know Hatem.” “I don’t know Sylvain Marveaux Demba Ba or Yohan Cabaye but I am glad to be part of the same squad as them.”

“It is very exciting to be here.” “These times ahead can be exciting for us as a group.”  “Two of the signings in Marveaux and Cabaye are two of France’s most technical players.”

“I had a chat with the manager about his plans and he gave me a great speech which pleased me a lot.”

“There is a lot of ambition here and it is a great challenge for me.”  “I have heard so much about the atmosphere here, I cannot wait to impress these fans.”

Alan Pardew will now have to decide what he thinks his best team is for the first league game of the season at St. James’ park on Saturday, and w in would be a terrific way to start the new season after all the negativity of the last few weeks.

Howay The Lads!!

I know its frustrating to see where did the 35million go. But that was before when Pardew and co lied to us, saying the 35million will be reinvested into the squad.

But recently Pardew came out and admitted indirectly that it was a lie. And we are a selling club and that we don’t have much money. Throughtout Ashley rubbish regime i just hated the lies and i just wanted to truth.

Pardew has come clean now and i respect it. Each season we will sell before we can buy. We will always look to buy bargains and hope they can over achieve with us. Its a gamble which i think is the right direction for us.

ilovetoon8788 – all I can say is you are easily pleased mate – Pardew saying we have no cash sets massive alarm bells of for me mate and asks more questions than it answers… thankfully most people aren’t having the wool pulled over their eyes so easily.

Obertan wants to be a striker one day. Wonder if his favourite player was henry. Glad to have him on board now. Hoefully get pieters in as comp for lb and a striker and i would consider this a good window. HWTL!

Not entirely true, he just said we can’t compete with the clubs in europe. We dont have that income or that draw for players.

But we will be self sufficient next year which is a huge plus allowing us to spend more money on players and if we get back into europe we wont need to sell unless we get ridiculous offers.

BTW look at arsenal, struggling to keep fab and nas… its not just NUFC look around, all clubs know every player has a price

Positive words from an exciting lad!

Hope he proves to be another steal by the scouting team.

From his vid’s on youtube (extent of my scouting skills) he seems to play all his stuff on the left?? Very strong competition down there now!

But I think most people have accepted that you have two options – either do something about it, or live with it.

No use moaning on blogs all day is there. We should forget the other rubbish, and support our players & coaching staff.

magpie – get real. We are GROOMING players for resale – fattening the birds up for Christmas.. Arsenal are bringing youth through to integrate into the first team. They have fought tooth and nail to keep Fibreglass and Nasri – neither of whom have gone – should nasri go they have just spent 10mil on chamberlain as a replacement – GET REAL wake up and smell the bore holes.

    Exactly!

It’s not ideal, but im my opinion it is getting the job done (some what controversially) on a tight budget!

If we play good exciting football, have a good cup run and show we can be a decent force in the PL I am happy to have the “wool pulled over my eyes” as Boater puts it.

Why do so manypeople get excited about the club saving money, its not as though the price of a ticket pint or a pie come down is it,its just your hard earned money is going into Ashleys pocket instead of players who arent on pay as you play deals because of long term injuries they’ve got or had in the past

ToonDownSouth – One of the popular myths of this and other blogs is that somehow being critical isn’t supporting, but saying woohoo everything’s great is supporting?!?!? Neither has anything to do with supporting or not. On Saturday I’ll be supporting the team all the way… doesn’t mean I can’t respond to the fantasists and apologists on here – telling me Obertan is a better signing than zog!?!?! for e.g. – who by their very unquestioning, pliable nature allow Ashley to get away with it in the first place.

I’m not being easily pleased mate. I’m just accepting the truth which is out now. Which is, 1)we are a selling club. 2)money on transfers may or may NOT be invested back into the squad. 3) we will sell before we can buy. 4) this is a gamble.

This is the truth which i’ve known from last year. But Pardew only admitted this now. Why do you think we are grooming our youngsters? Its for high resale value. So that if players Yven Moyo becomes a world class winger he will go for about 20-30million as well. It sucks but its a gamble and i feel this is the right direction for the club.

We are simply hoping that players over achieve with us. Like Obertan might(i hope). We are raking in more profits and i’m sure in 3 seasons time we will be buying players clubs like Liverpool can’t.

So i’m saying this is a good step forward. Ashley is playing it smart now but it just accept it.

Jail for Ashley – that has bugged me all summer too. This blog is full of would-be accountants totally brain-washed by the club’s bogus model rhetoric.

I would hazard a guess those putting financial prudence above 1st team assets a) isn’t attending matches at all b) spends too much time on Championship Manager

one thing thats got to be said is that how we conduct ourselves in the transfer market is excellent.

personally i really do feel a decent striker will be coming in this window, and if we get sturridge i might just cum in my pants

I agree that it is hugely irritating and frustrating that our club seems to put re-sale value first, but gone are the days of CL football at the club and thus gone are the days of us attracting Europe’s elite.

I do not see another way where we can get, young exciting players that are current internationals, on lower wages than some of our current squad without using a model where value is placed first.

Until we reach the coveted CL lands this is the way we are going to have to conduct our business, with tight shrewd business deals that have a higher element of risk than buying proven quality players – we simply don’t have the pull or financial cout anymore.
