There seems little doubt that 22 year-old Gabriel Obertan is delighted to have joined Newcastle United today.
Gabriel Obertan – impressed with Pardew speech on Newcastle
In his interviews since signing along the dotted line today, what comes across with the French 22 year-old is a great excitement, and whatever Alan told the lad about his plans for the future of Newcastle, it certainly impressed Gabriel.
Obertan says Alan gave him a great speech which pleased him a lot. We’d like to hear that speech too!
Obertan joins Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and 18 year-old Mehdi Abeid as five French-born and French speaking players who all have lots of skills and will change the way in which Newcastle play, and for the better too.
And when you think that Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling has but five appearance sin total between them last season, then Newcastle have seven new players so far this summer, with a left back and striker likely to still arrive before September 1st rolls around.
And if we can get those last two players through the door, that would be seven new players on Tyneside, and effectively nine new players with Ben Arfa and Gosling included, which is not too bad at all.
Gabriel spoke to the local Newcastle press corps today:
“I already know Hatem.” “I don’t know Sylvain Marveaux Demba Ba or Yohan Cabaye but I am glad to be part of the same squad as them.”
“It is very exciting to be here.” “These times ahead can be exciting for us as a group.” “Two of the signings in Marveaux and Cabaye are two of France’s most technical players.”
“I had a chat with the manager about his plans and he gave me a great speech which pleased me a lot.”
“There is a lot of ambition here and it is a great challenge for me.” “I have heard so much about the atmosphere here, I cannot wait to impress these fans.”
Alan Pardew will now have to decide what he thinks his best team is for the first league game of the season at St. James’ park on Saturday, and w in would be a terrific way to start the new season after all the negativity of the last few weeks.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #41“ashley haters are NUFC haters”… I think that might be the most amazing thing I’ve read on here for quite a while. As for the abusive language: it just lacks class all round- don’t do it mate.

Comment #42Spot on boater.and ilove toon8788 I dont think your easily excited or easily pleased I think you’re f@#@#ing deluded, what on earth makes you think that Ashleys going to hang around for the long term and turn all these profits that he’s making from OUR club into a top force again,if that was his aim he’d at least come out and half say so ,cant you see hes going to gamble on staying in the Premier league long enough to strip us bare and try to claim as much as his money back as he can,so get off your Championship manager and realise this is a REAL club not yours or Ashleys little plaything

Yup its frustrating but maybe just maybe this group of lads can over achieve and bring us to Europe next season. Maybe in 10 years time we will be financially so good we might be competing with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern or Madrid. You never know.
Its a gamble, but i think we should accept it and get behind the lads. You can’t deny this has been an excellent window except for a striker we desperately need.

I know its frustrating for you. But just get behind the lads this season and see where we end up at the end of the season. This season will tell us if this is the right way or not. If this current group of lads just manage to avoid relegation than this is the wrong way and we need to plough money back into the squad.
If we finish in the top 10, than i’d say you’d be singing Ashley’s praises yourself!

Comment #48Welcome Gabriel Obertoon to NUFC!! I for 1 am glad to have you could care less about the negativity on the boards cant ruin my excitement for the season.. Looking forward to see the Lads this season and what type of football we will play hope we have a relatively injury free season since injury free is just not possible, would love to see the squad play to its full potential and that would be a top 8 finish IMO.. Even think we could do better then that world beater some of u make Insomnia out to be and the dirty villains..Haha really dont get the fascination with him and some NUFC supporters?!? Anyhow HWTL!!!!!

Ignore the ridiculous comments about how you can’t hate Ashley without hating NUFC (lol?), and others about how excited we should all be that our accounts are pretty (which they’re still not, I’ve looked).
However, those of us who aren’t brain dead are probably going to have to just deal with it. I just think that to be honest, we’ve heard it all before. We all know how poor our owners is, but the same comments are being written day after day after day in their hundreds.
It would be better to send them all to the national press, and hope they run a few stories on fan discontent, just to try and get it out there.

I think Europe this season is a bit of a push! I would be happy to prove that this squad is good enough to easily secure PL football, upset some of the bigger teams and play exciting football.
It would also show that Ashley is not here to asset strip as he is buying a team that is capable of exciting football in a strict financial budget. What business man would destroy something he owns, therefore decreasing value!
It’s comments like that that I can’t stand

Comment #53Supporting the team (as we all do) has nothing at all to do with the whole pro/anti Ashley argument. I hate MA with a passion but I love the club, they are not the same thing. People should make the comments they feel are justified good or bad, supporting the team on Saturday is not related and should be taken as a given.
Anyhow on topic, for me Obertan is a very average player, lots of pace but not much else. Our scouting team have proven they know what they’re doing however so I’ll get behind the lad and hope he proves me wrong!

Comment #54@37 and 40 – Remind Boater will you? We are looking up – If we get a good striker in – we are looking good. French, Dutch, Argentinian, English… Nice spectrum of internationals in the senior squad..

Yes! I can’t wait to see our future Ronaldo(Obertan) and Cabaye and Demba Ba can do for us. Marveaux will add the extra quality down the flanks. Tiote will be magnificent as usual. And Ben Arfa(if he can avoid being in the medical room) will be brilliant as usual. Exciting squad we have. We have such a good attack but our defence is crap.
I can smell KK days v2.0.
