Joey Barton In Talks With Stoke City

The Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail are reporting that Stoke are in talks with Newcastle’s Joey Barton about a move to the Potters.

Joey Barton – could leave Newcastle

Stoke manager Tony Pulis met with Barton’s agent Willie McKay on Wednesday, and wants to agree a deal with Barton, whom Stoke can get from Newcastle for nothing, at least in  transfer fees.

It looks like Stoke think Joey would be a good acquisition for them, and if Barton wants to go and play for Stoke, so be it, since he seems to have done irreparable harm to his relationships inside the Newcastle club.

With new boy Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux, Dan Gosling, Ben Arfa and others who can play out on the right wing, Newcastle already have the personnel in place, should Joey decide to leave the club, and yet they may still bring in someone new before September 1st..

Joey’s blotted his copy book in the last week or so big time, and not only at Newcastle, but with the football public in large, and he’s again come across as a trouble-maker.

That’s exactly what his reputation was when he was at his former club Manchester City, and before Newcastle signed him in the summer of 2007.

If he does move it will be a similar move to former captain Kevin Nolan, who got the deal he had wanted at Newcastle, but had to drop down a division and move to a smaller club, West Ham,  to get it.

And if Barton does join Stoke, we could well see Newcastle renew their interest in Swiss winger Tranquillo Barnetta, since Alan Pardew has said that any player leaving the club in the next three weeks, will be replaced.

And Pardew also had hinted yesterday that things were still not all well with Joey, and that he had to fully buy into the Newcastle club and their direction, if he wanted to stay on Tyneside, and there would be no more dressing room rantings allowed from the Liverpudlian.

Looks to us that he may not have been willing to do that, and of course his outlook as a free agent next summer would not have been too bright either, with no bigger clubs than Newcastle interested in him.

We also expect Jose Enrique to move out before September 1st, and then at least all the players in the squad will want to be at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Can I ask why is Obertan in the banner?! He has just signed! And Krul instead of Harper? Surely could fit both in there and add Barton to the other side

why would you want Barton on the banner? he is pretty much gone. The banner represents the current state of the squad and will be up-dated accordingly!

    @kingkev9:

Headline: “Joey Barton In Talks With Stoke City”
Key phrase: “Stoke manager Tony Pulis met with Barton’s agent Willie McKay on Wednesday”

    Proof of article: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Stoke-in-talks-sign-Joey-Barton-on-free-transfer-from-Newcastle-ready-pay-him-60k-per-week-article783598.html

Why can’t I comment about a negative? Its a blog for anyone to read mate. But it’s a false headline. People read these headlines and jump to conclusions. Perhaps Ed shouldn’t title threads wrongly.

Must admit I do think some of EDS decisions regarding players for the banner are a bit controversial but before anyonw says it yes its his blog and I agree its his choice. Its a good blog. Personally its taken me a while to get used to seeing Pardew there. Speaking about Pardew on the banner without wishing to offend anyone it looks like he suffers from Thallidomides disease. A banner with some previous great players and managers would be easier for Ed to manage, Ashley cannot transfer our legends.

Hopefully we get rid of him; he will do no good to the morale of the team. He thinks he is more than the rest of the players.

I just read we might consider a bid for Derdyok; I would love him at the Toon. Please Ashley spend some money on a very good YOUNG striker!

Because Barton is one of our top players and earned a spot on the banner for me…also dont see him leaving for atleast a year.

    kingkev9
You can be negative about the subject all you like but complaining about what Ed puts up isnt in that bracket in my book.

    nick_9
Agreed its Eds choice its just not the players I would have up there. I would also prefer some of our legends up there these days rather than players in the current squad

@kingkev: Because an agent talks on behalf of his player. Seeing as most clubs wouldn’t touch him, it’s fair to assume that his agent is trying to force a move – how is this difficult to understand?

will he be replaced??? no, they will say obertan was brought in in place of him – and im willing to bet money obertan wont see too much of the right wing either… have had a feeling since we were linked with him that because of his speed were going to play him as a striker.

If anybody is replaced it will be enrique and thats it… at best
