Shola Ameobi Signs New Deal For Newcastle

Shola Ameobi has just signed an extension to his Newcastle contract, which was to run out next summer.

Alan Pardew congratulates Shola Ameobi on new contract

Shola made his debut for Newcastle way back in 2000, when the great Bobby Robson was managing the club, and he has signed a two year extension, which will keep him at his home town club for three more years, when he will be 32.

There was news that talks had stalled with the Nigerian born striker earlier in the summer, but it seems things got worked out, and the 28 year-old had this to say at the Benton Training grounds today:

“All I’ve ever wanted is to play for Newcastle United, and it is a really happy day for me.”

“Newcastle is, and always will be, my club, and I’m looking forward immensely to the next three years, beginning this Saturday with the new season opener against Arsenal.”

“I would also like to thank the board and the manager for their continued support, which is very much appreciated.”

Alan Pardew sees Shola as a strong presence in the Newcastle dressing room, and of course Shola is a local lad, and Alan wanted to keep him at the club, as he had this to say today:

“We are delighted to have confirmed Shola’s new contract.”

“He has done a terrific job for me since I’ve been at the club and he is also a great character to have around the place. It is important to have continuity, and keeping Shola on board helps us achieve that aim.”

“It is also great for the club that his younger brother Sammy is developing well and we hope he can go on to have a successful career at Newcastle.”

The one thing we’d like to see from Shola next season is that he is available for more games, because in any one season, he seems to miss about half the games with injuries.

But on his game,  big Shola is almost unplayable, and we hope he has one of his best ever seasons for the Magpies next season.

Shola has scored 70 goals for Newcastle in his 303 appearances.

Hope shola does not take any playing time away from Best, Shola has had his chance and continues to be an epic fail. Hopefully mike has clipped his wages or bonuses. His little brother has done more in a couple of games than he has in 11 years. Give Best the number 9

the club would be a poorer place without him. Good on the lad for not getting carryed away with himself and accepting a long term deal.

Shola has only once in his career gotten into double figures for the season with 10 goals. That was in the championship….

Shola signed for 2 extra years, If Nolan was not so greedy he could of signed for 4, but no he wanted 5.
Get off Shola’s back, on his day he is a handful and he is a more than useful back up.

OttersPocket- when did Nolan say he wanted 5 years with us!? You’re just presuming that because he got 5 years at West Ham.

Nolan was offered a 12 month extension on his current deal if NUFC hit certain targets- that was a contract he was never ever going to sign.

shola two years extension = 2 more extra years of NO EUROPE SPOT = 2 years extra of NO AMBITION

We better sign a good striker before transfer window close!

Jesus christ. You lot all whinge that we’ve got a paper thin squad, then whinge when we tie a player down.

Make your minds up. Nothings going to change with Shola, he’ll still play, but hopefully he’ll be at least 3rd choice by the time the window closes.

You all seem on the verge of suicide as usual.

Resorting to insults isn’t a great way to engage in conversation with people.

Hopefully our strikers will be “New Striker”, Ba, Best, Shola, & Lover. But I expect Lover to be gone by this time next year.

I’m not complaining, I find it quite funny Stuart. I played against Shola for years, all through school, with a certain John Carver watching him most games.

I find it funny that people say Joey and Jose should take note. Shola has been extremely lucky to have a career in football, nevermind in the Premiership. He will be a few weeks off 33 when his contract expires. Surely you’d rather have Nolan for 4 years than Shola for 3, or Barton for 5 years than Shola for 3.

Jose wants to play for his country and be a top player, shola will never ever get a bigger or better club than NUFC.
