Sky Sports is reporting that Xisco has joined his former club Deportivo, and it looks like it’s a permanent deal.
Xisco – rejoins Deportivo
Xisco played on loan at Deportivo last January, when he appeared 9 times for the Spanish club with two goals, but Deportivo were surprisingly relegated.
But the news is that the likable 25-year-old is to be officially unveiled tonight in Spain, after he successfully passed a medical.
Newcastle signed Xisco on the last day of the transfer window in August, 2008 for £5.7M, without the knowledge of then manager Kevin Keegan, and that finally led to Kevin Keegan resigning from his post at the club.
When told about the player, Keegan said he knew nothing of him, and the Director of Football at that time, Dennis Wise, showed Youtube videos of the player in action.
But Xisco, after a promising first couple of games, turned out to be nowhere near good enough for the Newcastle first team.
But that didn’t stop him picking up £50K/week over the last three years of a five year contract, and it’s good news if the Magpies have finally managed to unload him.
Xisco played only 9 times for Newcastle and scored on his debut against Hull City at St. James’ Park, the first game Newcastle played after Kevin Keegan had left the club, and Chris Hughton had taken over as the caretaker manager.
Xisco should be able to settle in quickly in Spain, as Deportivo are mounting a big push to gain instant promotion back to La Liga.
Deportivo goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia seems pleased Xisco has returned as he had this to say:
“Xisco is a player than knows us and the club.” “The process of adaptation for him will be minimal.”
This ends a nightmare for both the player and for Newcastle United, and it’s really good news for both parties that this deal has finally been struck.
Deportivo are unlikely to have paid any more than £500K to get their player back, but no fee has been disclosed.
Comments welcome.

Comment #9Lets hope we can get that promised LB and Striker, and use Xiscos wages on a backup LB or CB, that should get us far.
Still 3 weeks left of the window.

Comment #15OK so we are freeing up some space. Now how about some solid news on some signings so we don’t have to face the Arse without an LB?
I know Fergie is anxious for first team football, but I worry the lad could be killing his career if he is played out of position. For me, he is a winger. Not the physical presence needed for a fullback. I think the boy has a great future but much less so as an LB.

Comment #22We still have a load of young LBs in the club for Arsenal to torture…. no no no, this is not going to be the case, lads. Pieters or some LB will be coming through the door tomorrow.
I don’t mind to have someone like Beresford, pretty unknown when he came, but shined for us, and never proceeded to the international stage.

sure manU have a team, but it will be interesting to see if those youngsters can preform well in all of those 60+ matches.
as for city..you could see in charity that mancini is not the bravest manager. he can win against poor sides, but thats it. his subs were horrific. my guess is hell be fired before the end of the season.

Great. I heard Kuqi and Oliver Bernard are spotted in Tyneside today. Bernard replacing Enrique most probably.

Comment #33My parents have just got back from holiday and sat next to Shearer, apparently he’s not too impressed with Ameobi signing on for the additional 2 years. That surprised me as I thought Shearer always liked him but ahh well. And apparently if he ever went to talk to Ashley he’d know the opposite would be true. I knew he didn’t have a great relationship but to hear it first…well I suppose second hand is unusual and does make me question Ashley. My view is that much like these riots, the point behind it all is pretty solid, the schemes etc. its just how he’s gone about it. Ahh well
