Tavernier Moves To Carlisle As Enrique Moves To Liverpool

Excuse me for trying to be logical, but was I the only one who thought striker Xisco moving on loan to Deportivo on the very same day that Newcastle sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January, was a little silly.

James Tavernier – great young defensive prospect

Well would you believe it could happen again – it seems like deja vu all over again.

The news today is that young James Tavernier has moved on a month long loan to Carlisle United, and that’s the same day that first choice left-back Jose Enrique is expected to sign for Liverpool.

James has played very well in pre-season, and while he may not have filled in this Saturday for Jose against Arsenal, he is nevertheless a top young defender at the club, so why send him out on loan now?

The 19 year-old can play across the back four, and it looks like the youngster will go straight into Carlisle’s squad next Saturday for their trip to Bury.

Is there any real planning going on with Newcastle’s transfer and loan policies – it doesn’t look like it to us.

I stand corrected if Newcastle sign Erik Pieters before the Arsenal game – let’s hope that’s exactly what happens!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good for young Tavernier to go out on loan to get games,  but the timing couldn’t have been worse.

There is also news today that Hibernian are expected to complete the signing of 19 year-old Newcastle United striker Phil Airey, on a season-long loan deal, so Airey joins former Newcastle Assistant manager Colin Calderwood north of the border.

That will give Phil some first team games, where he can show Alan Pardew what he can do with regular playing time, and it looks like a great move for the Amble-born youngster.

Comments welcome.

Note: Here’s something I did for GOAL a couple of days ago, on the upcoming season for Newcastle.

I just dont know what to think, we seem to have midfielders coming out of everywhere, no fit left back now Enrique’s going, only one right back worth talking about, three centre halfs (injury would kill us) and a worrying lack of fire power, wtf is going on, oh and we spent all of our money on underfloor heating and agents fees, what happened to MA’s £20m a season rule that should be £55m to spend twat

I don’t really get this “our squad needs to be bigger” thing, it probably doesn’t, by one player maybe ala the striker we are supposedly looking to sign but other than that its more a case of there’s a lot of deadwood still to shift. Also the 25 is not even mentioning some of the promising youngsters we have!

Two things bother me about this and I’m a fan of Ashley’s “plan”…

    1. Enrique going for 5.5m? WTF! He was bought for 6-7m and has improved immensely since he has been here. Surely with prem experience and all that he should be worth more than what he was bought for.

    2. PSV have come out today and said there has been no contact from any club for Pieters and he isn’t going anywhere.

Andy Carroll situation all over again.

    Discuss.

It’s just Pardews plan to get us playing total attacking football….
    Team for Arsenal:

    ————–Krul

    Jonas, Tiote, Cabye, Gosling, Guthrie
    Barton, Obertan, Vuckic, Marveaux

    —————Ba

    The much underused 1-9-1 formation

    Saylor—-Willo—-Collo—-Simpson

But i think Jonas will fill in at LB… Phil Dummet and Moyo or not ready yet to fill in

    Unless we sign Pieters.

Should go for a loan. Van Aanholt?

Jonas did play left back during US tour and Obertan is match fit as he played many games for Man United during pre-season. I don’t see the point leaving him out as we don’t have many choices at right wing

See Liverpool when they sold Torres?, They wait until they get Carroll. Why not us ? because Ashley and co is stupid !

@ belfastmagpie, we can only register 2 more over 21’s in our 25 man senior squad, we have to rely on youth players. pieters and a striker will fill up our quota, so we can only sign youngsters after that if we want a bigger squad

Stoke scored 4 goals against us for the first time in their history (probably) when Fergie was LB.

How many do you think the Arse will put past us with him at LB?

I have a horrible feeling it’s going to be Perch.

Tav is a good young player but wouldn’t be starting for us even if he stayed. It’s good to see some of the youngsters going out on Loan. He isn’t a LB anyway, played terribly there in pre-season. He can play CB but prefers RB.

Raylor will most likely start LB for us this weekend, Perch would be the other iption, neither is ideal but will have to do until Enrique’s replacement arrives.

People saying we’re a laughing stock, i really don’t see how. What’s to laugh at? This window we released a few players who never featured for us, sold Nolan, bought Cabaye, sold Routledge, bought Obertan and also signed Ba, Marveaux and Abied. If Enrique leaves and he’s replaced too then i don’t see what anyone would be laughing about.
