Barton – It’s Make Up Your Mind Time At Newcastle

Alan Pardew has said he still hasn’t decided whether Joey Barton will start for Newcastle tomorrow against Arsenal.

Joey Barton – make up your mind time

One thing that is clear is Jose Enrique has played his last game for the club,  and he moved to Liverpool because he has a better chance of winning trophies there.

Since Newcastle haven’t won a trophy in 42 years, it would be a hard argument to win with Jose, but it’s still upsetting that he has decided to leave the club, even though we knew it was coming.

Zenit St Petersburg and Stoke have been linked with Joey Barton,  and we still don’t know if Joey will jump ship or see out his final year on Tyneside.

Joey signed at the same time Jose Enrique did, in the summer of 2007, and big Sam Allardyce brought both players to Tyneside.

Alan Pardew talked about Joey this morning:.

“I am not sure he will start on Saturday in my mind, whatever answer he gives me in the meeting today,” “I want to be fair to the fans and I want to be fair to him and it is not like our relationship has broken down – our relations are pretty strong.”

“I think he is in a better frame of mind. I think he is beginning to get his head around everything, but it is a difficult decision for him.”

“The decision in front of Joey is at the moment there is no contract on offer for him here – so does he take a longer contract elsewhere or does he stay and play for Newcastle and take that option later on in the season?”

“I have offered Joey an olive branch to say ‘look Joey, I am not going to put you to one side and say I am not going to involve you in the club’.”

“His crime to me was not that great and I am big enough to look him in the eye and say by the same token I want the same back from you.”

“If you are going to stay I need to hear that you are going to stay and that is it. It is as simple as that.”

It’s make up your mind time for Joey Barton, and he has to make his decision at a time when Jose Enrique has just left for Liverpool.

One advantage in all of this, is once the club gets a decision, we will all know know where we  stand, and it would be good to have players in the squad who only want to be on Tyneside.

And if  Joey has any doubts on that – he should leave the club.

Bad times. If RVP played more than 25 games a season, I reckon he’d be talked about as the best striker in world football…

    He’s got absolutely everything

I wish Barton would back down and toe the line. Would love him to stay but this has gone on for a long time. He could have signed in January but has voiced his displeasure constantly. Can’t see him playing tomorrow and can’t see him staying. Gutted but you can’t go on the way he has.

This is the same barton who demanded we pay a signing off fee to city and kept getting paid all the time he was inside. barton looks after number 1. No clubs have seriously come in for him, doesn’t that tell you a lot.
Let his circus move on and be a distaction elsewhere.

ToonDownSouth totally agree. One of the best 2 or 3 in the world for me. If he wasn’t so injury prone he would be worth £80 million

People keep talking about the ‘crisis’ we’re in. It’s complete nonsense… ONE player causes trouble. Most teams have that problem at least once in a season.

I’m so sick of Sky Sports & the media bullying our club, and I’m so sick of our club giving them reasons to.

They should be talking about the fact that despite a c#nt of an owner, we get the 3rd highest turnout in the league, and constantly surpass everyones expectations by a country mile.

Ed, we have known where we stand with regard to our Number 9 since January – but what have we done about it? Seven months later, he is still to be replaced.

We have known where we stand with our LB since January. Pardwho came out last week, as reported in this blog and stated he was bringing in another LB whether Jose left or not – where is he?

NUFC withdrew any contract offer to Joey months ago, then listed him on a free – fortunately, we have so many Midfield player, we could field a team of them!!

Joey not playing or leaving is not a problem as far as putting a good team out is concerned, given the numbers already in our ranks. Starting with NO replacement CF and NO replacement LB, when they have had SEVEN months to arrange it is sheer negligence and / or incompetence!! Pretty much normal for NUFC these days though!!

In all fairness, i think it’s better for us and Joey if he leaves.
He’s now a bystander to the club, being pushed out of first team training, he’s been targeted by the press, on EVERY interview Pardew gives, Joey is in it.

Pardew needs to focus on what team to set up on Saturday, he needs to work tactics and formations with his team.
He needs for Llambas, Charnley and Carr to sort out our two dire transfers.

He doesn’t need Joey Barton to be a baby, Joey is holding Pardew back, thereby holding the team back. If i was in that team, i wouldn’t know how to handle Barton or when he could go off in a tantrum.
It makes for a very unsettling dressing room to have a person which you cant place.

Joey needs to go, and he needs to realise that sooner rather than later.

We will put a good side out tomorrow but the failure to buy 2 forwards (when in January we needed cover but instead sold Carroll) and to sell Jose before we bought seems suicidal. Surely we could have said that he can go but only when we bring in a replacement. Again though, we needed cover for Jose so are we gonna buy 2 left backs? The curse of NUFC says we buy just one and he suffers an injury first week in September. Pieters and also Bridge on loan might be the shot. For a striker I would take Bendtner even though many wouldn’t, but we have had 7 months to sort this, they could have had an agreement in May for a top forward (ala Cabaye) and the pressure would have been completely off.

    @TDS

Completely agree. The media are stretching this way further than needs to be.
All the pundits sit there, and read the papers in and out. If there were any experts to judge us on the table this coming season, it should be us, the supporters.
We sit on this forum, taking into account almost every aspect available in this club. We talk about incoming and outgoing players, we try to go in-depth about etc etc.

Pisses me off that, i think it was talksport, we were going to come underneath stinkin Norwich on the PL table.
Now that is some rite bullocks.

@24 Spot on . In January, the reason the AC deal went through at the 11th hour is because Liverpool wouldnt let Torres go until a suitable replacement was DEFINITELY coming. We could, and should, have been the same way with them this time round. Even if it means heleicopters in the middle of the night, and an excited SSN’s David Craig jumping up and down outside SJP

DannyO- norwich have an excellent manager and fantastic team spirit. We have neither.

Barton is still one of our best players, if not best. We need him and he needs us. BUT Ashley will get rid.

Our squad isn’t good enough at the back or up front, can’t deny that.

If colo got a serious injury first game in Sept, we’d be relegated.

we need barton like a hole in the head. We need a team not individuals. Imagine if we got bendtner as well, we’d have somone who thinks they’re the best player in England and another who thinks they’re the best striker in the world !!

Rotonda- who is our leader? Our fighter? The heart of the team? Who will grab games by the scruff of the neck? If Barton goes then no one. Nolan did that, Barton did that, Carroll battered 2 centre backs.

If the club had any ambition we would have signed the players we have but kept Nolan, Jose, Carroll, Barton and sold Guthrie, Shola, routledge, Ryan Taylor etc.

To solve our full back problem I think we don’t need to look abroad we should look in the prem… we could nick one of the twins (Rafael and Fabio) from Man U, get Kyle Walker on loan?
