We felt upbeat about things when Gabriel Obertan signed for Newcastle earlier this week, and felt almost the opposite yesterday as Jose Enrique left for Liverpool.
Erik Pieters – bring him in quickly
But life goes on, and so does Newcastle, and hopefully Newcastle can now bring in Erik Pieters from PSV quickly, and then another striker early next week too.
If the club can do that it will bring some levity back to Tyneside, but it’s unfortunate that Newcastle start their season tomorrow, just one day after Jose left, and who will play left-back tomorrow?
Even if the club can get Erik in before the game tomorrow, and he cannot play, that will still give Newcastle a lift, and there’s still a decent chance we can start the season by beating Arsenal at home.
And this is what Alan said this morning about the left back situation:
“I am sure some of the fans will be asking why we had not brought a left-back in earlier.”
“The difference was if Jose had signed we would have ended up with two very, very expensive left-backs and that is something we could not afford when we are trying to create the best side .”
“We need that money in other areas and of course we do not have the striker to cover the line yet.”
“I understand a big bulk of our fans just want our best players wanting to stay here – it does not always work like that, unfortunately.”
From what we can find out about Pieters he looks a very decent player and if Newcastle got him in, the team shouldn’t miss Jose too much, and of course Newcastle need another striker, and another player should Joey Barton leave the club.
Newcastle have been linked with 23 year-olds Eren Derdiyok of Bayer Leverkusen and Nicklas Bendtner of Arsenal, and with 19 days left in the transfer window, Newcastle need to get busy soon.
We’re not too sure if Bendtner is good enough for Newcastle, and Eren would be a risk, but the Swiss International could still turn out to be a good signing for the club, but £8.5M seems high.
And if Joey Barton does move on, we’d like to see Newcastle bring in Bayer Leverkusen winger Tranquillo Barnetta, as a replacement.
If they can do that then Newcastle will not have done too bad in the summer transfer window, and with some good youngsters starting to come through, we could be in reasonable shape come September.
What do you think?

Ye, think i saw some about it yesterday too. It remains to be seen wether its true or not.
Otherwise:
Pardew doesn’t say anything we already know. We need atleast LB and Striker quickly, and then prefferbly a CB/RB backup, one who can play both well would be good.
I won’t hold my breath for the latter tho, as long as we get the LB and Striker, we shouldn’t have ample time for Carr to get someone ready for us in January.

spot on with that.
Midfielder slots are all filled and covered now, its defensively we’re short and a new no9 wouldnt go a miss either

Comment #7The club wouldn’t buy two left backs lol although for all of us it would be ideal I couldn’t see them doing it due to money.. I feel we have a good squad atm just get a left back and striker in and we are good to go 🙂

Also…
“The difference was if Jose had signed we would have ended up with two very, very expensive left-backs and that is something we could not afford when we are trying to create the best side .”
WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOX!
If jose had signed, we wouldn;t have signed anyone else as the foolish club would have felt that that was enough…
And you mean to tell me that have two decent players in one position is not good for building a squad now Alan?
We just need better communication from our beloved club!

Comment #9so arsenals team tomorrow should look like this;
Scezny
Sagna – Konscielny – Vermalen – Gibbs?
Ramsey – Song – Rocicky
Walcot RVP Gervinho
Think the midfield battle is key to this game. Our 2 possibly 3 cabaye, tiote and barton can all challenge these guys physically and if we can disrupt them and stop them playing i can’t see them threatening.
We can exploit gibbs i think as i’ve watched them pre-season and he is very weak. Can’t tackle! Our defence will be over-ran if the midfield don’t do their job as arsenal have pace in abundance. Something we lack and struggle against. All that being said i can’t wait! HWTL!!

Comment #13We’ve known Enrique was leaving for months now. Pardew’s talking rubbish. The minute he had gone, which we know he now has, then ‘one of the targets’ should have been on a plane to toon. If nobody files in today, then i fear its just rubbish of the tongues of shit talkers once again. (aka the monkey bunch – DL,MA,AP.)

Comment #15Why feel different yesterday with Enrique leaving?
We all knew it was coming, I’m just releaved its all over with!
Just need a true goal scorer and a LB, anything above this is a bonus.
As for replacing Barton, our midfield is packed, spend the cash at the back.

Comment #21So even though Enrique said he wasn’t going to sign a new contract and it was inevitable he was going to leave, you still didn’t think it was a good idea to maybe get a replacement early so he could gel with the squad? No players tillnext week I fear and I have a gut feeling its gonna be a really really crap striker

There was a time I started every season full of hope and optimism. Sadly those days are gone.

Comment #23I for one am very worried about this season! Shane Ferguson is not ready for the jump up to full team, we need Peiters and soon. On the other hand I’m glad Enrique has bogged off, I was sick of it dragging on. Hopefully, we can sort out the LB and striker issues v v v soon, no more midfielders are required!

Comment #24@7 yeah I think listie is correct
Especially if both of them (enrique and pieters) are pushing for international caps they woulnd’t want to be competing for the same reason. Maybe pieters wouldn’t come if we already had a left back of enrique’s quality because he’d want regular football.

Comment #27Anyone realise that we have again cut the wage bill again this summer.
There is no excuse for not getting in a left back or striker by now.
Also centre back is a huge worry for me. Only 3 centre halves is asking for trouble. Get bassong on loan even, can play any where across the back.

Comment #28so liverpool got the better of us again then ? for a club being run as a business we are getting shafted on these last min deals , liverpool starts the season with a quality left back we dont , it was obvious he was going , this regime is a joke and the mouthpiece for them is hopeless !!

Comment #30Seb Bassong wud be a super signing he could be played at LB to cover jose until fergie is ready to step up, and then slot into the back four with with willi and move taylor to RB, that is if we sell Colo but it gives us options for little outlay, I rec we are still owed a payment frm spurs and they wud right that off against a fee cost us 4/5mill, young player, point to prove, wages and fee affortable, seems a no brainer get sturridge aswel on loan and wer doing very nicely.

Comment #37I am a huge newcastle fan and like any fan i try to be optamisitc and stay positve but its hard when every morning you wake up and read another pack of lies Pardew has been telling. What kind of a football club sells there only LB withour having a replacement. He claims he didnt get one incase Jose signed a new deal, everyone new he was leaving. Lets start from the beginning, in January Pardew came out and told us all Carrol wasn’ going anywhere a week later he signs for the scousers, then we were all promised the 35mill would be spent, and he hasnt spent a penny. Pardew told us all that the clubs priority was to get all the key players to sign new contracts (Nolan, Barton & Jose) Nolan was sold as was Jose and Barton was transfer listed….another lie, he also claimed that good contracts were offered to all players, nolan said otherwise. Today he is saying we cant compete with the big clubs in the transfer market….so wheres this 35mill and i read the other day that Fat Mike is the third richest premiership club owner so its not that we cant compete its that he wont!!!! rant over

Comment #38What do you guys think about going for Keane? Yes he is wrong side of 30, but we would be able to get him at a reasonable price and he will offer valuable experience upfront, should also form a good partnership with Ba? To me he is a much better player thank Bendtner. Then get in the LB and we should have a stronger side than last season, my only concern is that we have a lot of players with a bad track record of injuries, Gos, Ba, Marv, Ben Arfa, as well as Tiote that is the yellow card king – this could lead us to be short of quality should injuries/suspensions hit?

Comment #39Complete and utter dross from Pardwho, yet again. Only last week he was saying that bringing in a LB WAS NOT dependant upon having the money from a sale of Jose.
Jose has made it fairly obvious, for over 6 months, that he was leaving – even Pardwho has said it in several interviews over the last 3 months.
Once again our illustrious leaders get it completely wrong – to the detriment of the team and the image of the club. Its a shambles – If I ran my company the way this lot run NUFC I would be out of business in no time!!!
