Newcastle Move Quickly To Tie Up Erik Pieters

The Daily Mail is reporting today that PSV Eindhoven will allow their top Dutch International left-back, Erik Pieters, to join Newcastle United.

Erik Pieters – on his way to Newcastle

The Tyneside club identified Pieters as the man to replace the departed Jose Enrique, who officially signed on at Liverpool yesterday, and Newcastle seemed to have moved quickly to bring in their new target.

PSV manager Fred Rutten is allowing his star player to move only reluctantly, and he had this to say:

“I would lie in the road to stop him leaving but I fear I cannot block his transfer to Newcastle,”

“Pieters has developed into a first-team regular with PSV and is a member of the Holland squad.”

“It would be a shame if he left us, because I know what our team needs.”

‘He is a brilliant defender, but if it is right for him and the club from a financial point of view, I cannot say no.””

The deal is said to go through at  £6M, so it’s almost the same fee Newcastle received for Jose Enrique, and we don’t think Newcastle will miss Jose much this season, but we shall see.

We assume there will be no hitches in getting the lad on Tyneside, and of course he is a big pal of goalkeeper Tim Krul, his Dutch International colleague.

However the Newcastle Journal is reporting today there are still some obstacles to overcome, and they are hoping to get the Dutch lad in before the Sunderland game, and Erik is said to be very very keen to join Newcastle.

They are reporting there are still some financial issues to solve before they are even able to talk to the player, so what they are we have no idea.

So the Daily Mail report is positive,  but the Journal report is guarded that Newcastle can quickly pull off this deal.

Alan Pardew had said the club would move quickly to replace Enrique, and they seemed to have done exactly that,  but it seems the deal will not be an easy one to pull off.

If Pieters can be signed, it will be a nice little boost for Newcastle fans.

Comments welcome.

    Only one question

Why wasn’t it done last week?

We have known for months Jose was going; Pardwho openly stated he didn’t need to wait for Jose to leave in order to buy – then did precisely that and weakened the team for today – some management skill that eh!!! Pillock.

I know a few a the lads on here think our signings have dragged out but really and truly they have bn fairly quick two/ three days max! So i believe that if we’re going to sign him then this will be tied up by Monday and hopefully we’ll announce our striker signing as well.

think this ones over the line, 2 million for sturridge for season long lone is no big fan of loan system but that would be peanuts to get the goals to get us into top 10, it will pay for itsself

Why wasnt it done last week? Because there is no way Pieters was coming here unless he was sure he’d be 1st choice ie Enrique had to go before Pieters could join

I dont think PSV are digging their heels IM, it just looks like they dont want the player to leave so they’re looking for as much as they can get ?

Seems to me we should have done this way before Jose left then we wouldnt be looking desperately to sign someone yet again ?

    Charlie N’Zog @ £10m springs to minf 🙂

Ironically, this does show some excellent ambition by Newcastle. Wonder if Enrique would stay now, lol.

Tbh tho, fantastic signing by Pards and crew, a really really good player and he’ll do excellent for us, i’m sure.
We can surely act quickly when we want to.
Don’t be so hard on yourself and the club Pardew, with signings like this we can compete against the big ones.
Just gotta catch the good signings early 😉

Fair play to the board if this is true. However, are you gonna trust the daily fail, a national newspaper known for making shit up, or the local newspaper? Fingers crossed for the mail!

Aye, the LB is quick in, and that is good, in time for Sunderland.
But i doubt we’ll have the striker by monday as i’ve heard we’re using our maximum to push the LB signing through.

Lets hope the striker is ready before Sunderland aswell tho, maybe by thursday so he’s ready for matchday.

Dannyo what part of the article which said

“Pieters, currently mourning his grandmother, is desperate to sign for the Magpies, but the £6million transfer of José Enríque to Liverpool has alerted the selling club to the fact Newcastle have money to spend. And that means the St James’ Park club are once again surveying a list of possible alternatives, which includes long-term target full-back target Cheikh M’Bengue”

    did you not read ?

Completely agree, Has Mr Pardew not learned his lesson, Same happened with Carrol, no one lined up in time, this lad should have been through the door before the toon allowed enrique to sign on the dotted line, why weeken the team for today? they could have at least waited until todays game was out of the way. Another barmy decision, with back up plan running well behind as it has been with a striker for how many months now!

If he has a release clause and we meet it then the transfer will go through quickly.

If we play games and bid less, hoping PSV won’t want a unsettled player in their squad upsetting team-spirit … then it might take us until deadline day.

    Who blinks first?

As someone said up top, cant be bad if hes the left back for the second best national team in the world eh?

Also…. Graeme.. … Pardew said he couldnt have brought him in earlier coz he would have been paying for ‘2 very very expensive lb’s’ so as munster mag says its the man holding the purse strings not pardew……

I love hearing about players who WANT to play for newcastle. As soon as he knew he was like…. Yes please! Gotta love players like that

Ganiyu have you ever seen Perch play? I cant beleive people say hes decent, a squad player etc. From what I saw of Tavenier in the US he was 100times better, so I was shocked we let him go to Carlisle not only cos he should be playing championship, but we just lost our only LB on the same day??? I would have felt alot better about Tav and Simpson playing today than Perch or Taylor. In fact Ive never seen Dummett play but already have more confidence in him to play there than Perch.

Today Id like us to play Ba as a sole striker, but I fear it will be a risky 4-4-2 with him and Ameobi.

On another note why is Tiote not in the Header???

Big game today hope Barton gets the nod. COYT

GK: Harper (need experience for this game)
    Flat Backline: Simpson / S.Taylor / Colo / R.Taylor
    Deep CM: Cabaye / Tiote
AMC/Striker Link Up: Barton / Obertan
    RW: Gutierrez
    LW: Marveaux
    Sole Striker: Ba

FCB wasn’t the idjit standing up and making the statement that he didn’t need to wait for Jose to move before signing a LB – that was our illustrious Manager shooting his mouth off and then failing to follow it up!! That makes him a pillock in my view.

I don’t care how much PSV digs in their heels–pay whatever it takes and get Pieters. Then, pay whatever it takes to get Sturridge. Whatever the sum of those transfer fees might be, they are nowhere close to 40 million pounds. Enough is enough.
