Ryan Taylor, Barton, Krul, Gutierrez All Start

Ryan Taylor and Joey Barton both start for Newcastle United today in the season opener against Arsenal at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

Ryan Taylor will play at left back in place of the departed Jose Enrique.

Jose played against Sunderland today, and the  Liverpool – Sunderland game ended  1-1,  with Liverpool having dominated the first half and Suarez missed a penalty, but then Seb Larsson scored a terrific equalizer early in the second  half.

As expected Joey Barton starts on the right wing, even though he is still on the transfer list at Newcastle.

Tim Krul has been given the first team goalkeeper’s jersey as expected, and Fraser Forster is on the bench, and we’re not sure whether veteran Steve Harper was fully fit for this game.

New boys Yohan Cabaye and striker Demba Ba will make their Newcastle debuts today, and Gabriel Obertan is named among the substitutes, and he is joined on the bench by Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling, Peter Lovenkrands, Sammy Ameobi (great!) and Leon Best.

It’s a big surprise that young Haris Vuckic has not made the bench for this game after his impressive form in pre-season, and Sylvain Marveaux is also missing – but that’s a sign of the bench strength at Newcastle this season.

For Arsenal there is no Fabregas, Wilshere  or Nasri – good – but Gervinho is in the starting line-up.

A win  would be fantastic and a draw would be good.

Howay The Lads!!

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Joey Barton, Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Shola Ameobi, Demba Ba
Subs: Fraser Forster, Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Gabriel Obertan, Peter Lovenkrands, Leon Best

Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Wojciech Szczesny; Bacary Sagna, Laurent Koscielny, Thomas Vermaelen, Kieran Gibbs; Alex Song, Aaron Ramsey; Gervinho, Tomas Rosicky, Andrei Arshavin; Robin van Persie (c)
Subs: Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou, Emmanuel Frimpong, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Marouane Chamakh

Got booked, as usual, but then missed a sitter to gain all three points, that said Wes Brown did s good job keeping turn coat Carroll out of the game

I thought we were goin for a bit of flair this season, but i reckon Pardew is right if he wants to control the match more through Cabaye and Tiote.
We need possesion to score goals against Arsenal, lets hope we can control the game through midfield and serve some good crosses through Cabaye and Barton.
Then when Arsenal gets tired, we add some pace through Obertan and Sammy imo.

Strolla will be non existant as usual. Suprised marveaux is not even on the bench. Hoping to see obertan and sameobi at some stage. Enrique looks quality as usual especially in that 2nd half oh well hope pieters fits the bill.

Shola could be an inspired selection against a soft arsenal defence if he has one of his 1 in 10 fantastic games.

Otherwise its another 90 minutes of groaning.
