Ryan Taylor will play at left back in place of the departed Jose Enrique.
Jose played against Sunderland today, and the Liverpool – Sunderland game ended 1-1, with Liverpool having dominated the first half and Suarez missed a penalty, but then Seb Larsson scored a terrific equalizer early in the second half.
As expected Joey Barton starts on the right wing, even though he is still on the transfer list at Newcastle.
Tim Krul has been given the first team goalkeeper’s jersey as expected, and Fraser Forster is on the bench, and we’re not sure whether veteran Steve Harper was fully fit for this game.
New boys Yohan Cabaye and striker Demba Ba will make their Newcastle debuts today, and Gabriel Obertan is named among the substitutes, and he is joined on the bench by Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling, Peter Lovenkrands, Sammy Ameobi (great!) and Leon Best.
It’s a big surprise that young Haris Vuckic has not made the bench for this game after his impressive form in pre-season, and Sylvain Marveaux is also missing – but that’s a sign of the bench strength at Newcastle this season.
For Arsenal there is no Fabregas, Wilshere or Nasri – good – but Gervinho is in the starting line-up.
A win would be fantastic and a draw would be good.
Howay The Lads!!
