Cheick Tiote is becoming a bit of a hero on Tyneside, and we’ve heard absolutely nothing from the Ivorian to say he has any intentions of leaving Newcastle, and in fact the opposite is true – he’s very happy on Tyneside.
Cheick Tiote – will he be doing this again today?
And the central midfielder turned down a move to Chelsea in January, and said he was very happy at Newcastle, and today he has come out with some positive comments on Newcastle’s transfer business. And that’s even though Newcastle have lost a couple of top players in Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique.
With Newcastle seemingly now willing to sell their top players, they are nowhere near the top several clubs in the Premier League, like Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, and it’s painful for some of us, to think that we were only a short few years ago.
Oh well, but Tiote has some positive words for Newcastle fans today and he was asked about the direction Newcastle are headed in:
“Yes, I am happy with the direction of the club,” “For me I do not have a problem to play here. I am happy here.” “In football you don’t know, every summer some player might need to move and you don’t know when they have to move.”
“But now we do need someone on the left side because Enríque has gone. We don’t have a left back now and we need to address that.”
“Football is relative. There are some big players that we’ve lost – Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll and Jose Enríque,” “But then there are new players who can make some impact in team.”
“For Newcastle now we have more possibilities than we did last season because the squad is more complete now.”
“I am happy with the squad I think but I don’t know where we can finish. Maybe 10th – maybe even as high as fourth. But we need to work hard because a lot of teams are ready for this season.”
This kind of attitude by a Newcastle player is revered by fans, and it’s great to hear positive comments from one of the top players on Tyneside, and from a player who could turn out to be one of Newcastle’s best ever buys..
Let’s hope the Ivory Coast International has an outstanding game today, doesn’t get a yellow card, and the big question – will he score again?
It’s just great to have players like Cheick at Newcastle!
Comments always welcome.

Comment #44ulsterexile Perch is having a late fitness test (please let him fail) the Barton situation is going to be an interesting one, is it a case of what Pardew wants or what Mike Ashley tells him?

Comment #45This is what I like to hear, hopefully we prove the sentiments here on the pitch, my view is we will finish in the next bracket up, ala…8th to 12th this season. The thing is, granted in this fantasy scenario we would still have Carroll who was more than decent, but I would be yet more fearful for the campaign ahead if we had exactly the same players as at the start of last season…..yet a year older. That’s slow players getting slower and whatever impact Nolan had for example dwindling, but I can see the argument that we are going to miss some leadership etc. but bringing it back to the article Tiote is like a machine and will destroy all in his way, and its the same for the likes of taylor so this softens the blow somewhat!

Comment #49Would like to Vukic start with Goslin moving over to the right side, but from what I’ve seen of Goslin the lad is the direct replacement for Nolan i think and will play a big role for us this year, would go so far as to say he will be a future captain for us.
2-1 today with Wenger throwing a hissy fit over something, thank good for football

Comment #50Dannyo people say this because it always happens and every player at the club is up for sale, Pardew told us that when big clubs want our players we have to sell, we have 1,000’s of unsold ticket, 1,000’s of season tickets failed to be sent out, the only constant we have are the fans and some of they are joining the growing boycott of the fans who have had enough, we have a poor manager who I doubt will be able to change the clubs fortunes, an owner who wants his money back, at any cost, a managing director that hasn’t a clue about football, my immediate fear is fan’s full of drink, full of hatred of an owner, with the chance the team that plays us will get a cricket score, then these drunken fans decide to take it out on fatty.

Comment #53Bit strange why Perch having fitness test…perhaps team will be selected on ‘horses for courses’ basis. With Perch being r quickest available full back to supress Arsenal pacy wingers. If it is a team selected specifically for Arsenal then will expect to see Barton and 5 man midfield

Comment #62Thai mag, are u mad?
A draw ,with Gyan and a few others getting red cards or muscle strains to keep em out for next week.
Im at the game today and cant wait for the boys to strut their stuff over the Arsenal.
Probably the best time to play them but I wish we had got a replacement in before letting Jose go.
Absolute negligence by the board…….cockney clowns,I suppose it saves £50k p/w on wages until we get a replacement, but is it worth the risk of losing points and losing places in the league at the end of the season?
Once again the big “run the club on a shoestring” gamble continues.
But for today and every single match its
HWTL and a big 4Q to the board !!!

Comment #73Also had a wierd dream that sunderland got smashed 3-0 .. seeing as their pre-season eclipsed ours on being horrendous this could be true .. prefer 0-0 though ..
plus points – sunderland are gonna really struggle this season, liverpool need to be challenging for top 4 or doglish is out .. I can see him moved on this season as he is sh*te.. remember our keegan entertainers ruined by him ..
