Alan Pardew was interviewed in today’s Sunday Sun, and he seems upbeat about the chances of having one and maybe even two new players in, before the Sunderland game next Saturday.
Erik Pieters – Newcastle left back against Sunderland?
It seems that Newcastle are indeed close to tying up Erik Pieters of PSV, and the latest news is that they held good talks with the player yesterday.
And if they have been allowed to talk to Erik, that means they have agreed a fee for the player with PSV, so that sounds very good, although there has also been news that a couple of other clubs are after the 23 year-old.
Do Sunderland need a new left back?
The news is that the club are trying to get the deal completed by Tuesday, and that would just be terrific news for Newcastle fans, and who knows, Erik may turn out to be better than Enrique, and he’s more than a couple of years younger than Jose.
This is what Alan Pardew told the Sunday Sun today:
“We’re confident we’ll have some new players here by next weekend.”
“I don’t want to talk about specific players, but I’m confident that by the time we play Sunderland I’ll have a left-back in place – and hopefully a striker.”
Certainly Alan Pardew seems positive, and with Derek Llambias also yesterday saying new players will be arriving soon, in his program notes for the Arsenal game, then hopefully we’ll see a couple of players in soon.
If they turn out to be Erik Pieters and Hugo Rodallega, that would be good enough for me.
