Pardew Expecting Joey Barton To Stay On Tyneside

After Joey Barton’s behavior yesterday,  that ended in Arsenal winger Gervinho being sent off, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has again defended his midfield star after the game.

Joey Barton – will stay this season on Tyneside

There’s no doubt that Pardew has a soft spot for Joey and they seem to get on  just fine, and even see eye to eye, well at least most of the time.

There are still doubts as to whether Joey will stay on Tyneside for this season, but the news in the Sunday papers today about Joey will hardly have too many clubs clamoring after his services, however good a player he is –  and Joey is a very good player, there’s no doubt about that.

This is what Al;an said today about his right winger today:

“I think he’ll be here after the transfer window. You can never say 100 per cent in football but I think so,”

“I think me and Joey know what we’re doing.” “He hasn’t got a contract for next season and that’s hanging over him, but the most important assurance, for me, is that he pulls for the team on a Saturday.”

“He gave me assurances on Friday that he was fully committed and he showed that on the pitch.”

You could see yesterday, especially in the second half,  that Joey could be a key player again for the side, as he already has the vast experience of playing in the Premier League,  and could help the new French contingent get up to speed on Tyneside.

But we are worried that Joey has had a big relapse, and that his anger tantrums are again getting the better of him.

We’d like nothing better than for Joey to get his head down and start to play like he did last season, and keep out of  the limelight and out of trouble, and please give up that Twitter account.

But somehow, we just cannot see him doing that for some reason, but we still hope that’s what happens this season.

Comments welcome.

He’s emotions got the better of him after that tussle yesterday, misplaced passes and all

Pardew have some sorting out to do IF Joey was to stay, dont get me wrong, I love having Joey around, but he’s not winger and with Cabeye around, 1 of them WILL be under utilize on the pitch, you know taking corners/dead ball dilemma and stuffs

    Bad news.

If Pardew wants to play a faster game he can’t have Barton in a wide position – we need a pacy winger there.

That means Barton either replaces Tiote or Cabaye or he sits on the bench. If he’s on the bench he’ll kick off.

The guy is bad news. Get shot of him.

He was stamped on and no one did anything. Anyone would be miffed off.

Well he pretty much shut the door on any clubs coming in for him this window, yesterday, so yes I full expect him to stay!

Im not having a go at him, he was a little OTT Gervinho, and got a 9.5 from me for his acting.

Hope Joey stays, loved crowds reaction to him yesterday.
He offers a flexibility in our squads formation. He can play right side of a forward 4, right wing or centre midfield.
He’s a character and we are devoid of characters in our club,
He’d be in my first 11

GG, I agree. he shouldn’t have grabbed the Klingon the way he did but that was a sending off offence by Song and because it was missed by the officials wound him up even more.

I can’t believe Pardew left him on the pitch after the Gervinho tussle but thankfully he didn’t get another card.

He’s the player that needs to stay…

I heard from an impeccable source on Friday – who was talking recently to Ashley’s father – that Hughton was sacked because he had a players committee of Barton, Nolan, Smith and Harper. These four were dictating team selection, tactics etc., to Hughton and he basically had no control over the senior players.

If Pardew isn’t careful he is going to end up in the same position with Barton as Hughton did. Do what Joey says and evertything is OK – don’t do what Joey says and he kicks off.

The ‘who takes the free kicks’ farce is a classic example. Barton kicks off because Cabaye takes the kicks at Leeds and – guess what – Barton takes the free kicks yesterday. And they were nearly all sh%te including woeful corners. I like Pardew but he is in real danger of making a fool of himself by backing Barton. Let’s see how much he ‘really likes Joey’ if he leaves him out of the team to speed the midfield up. Because that is EXACTLY what Pardew should do.

Barton’s been learning his acting skills from Saylor lol, Saylor was funny running round showing the ref and assistant ref how Gervinho elbowed Barton…. lol… wrong again.

Obertan on the ball was great but off the ball he looked uninterested. Maybe it’s just a case of training with the squad and getting upto match speed.

Marveaux will get his match fitness and when he does he will be a lot better than jonas.

Best was better than both Ba and Shola who were really unimpressive 🙂

Good atmosphere from the Gallowgate yesterday! Great to see the level 7 mob mixing it in the south east corner and behind the goal. Remarkable considering the match was shite and after all the crap weve had to put up with all summer! Whats it going to be like when we have something to cheer??!!?? Great stuff lads and truly great support! Lets turn the volume up even more for the next match!!!

  • Notts, I’d still put Shola on. Sunderland seems to be like a red sheet to a bull for him.

Maybe it might happen but Pards strikes me as a sterner character than CH so might yank the rope if Barton over impose himself on the team.

Barton for me is a enigma really. Can do without him but you wish he was in your team as well.

Agree somewhat with NottsGeordie ands Bills-son

Barton should not be playing wide right or taking set pieces, he does not have the pace, or get past players allowing the opposing defence to get in place. His set pieces have not been getting past the first man. I am really in two minds about him – how do you accommodate him, and is he a disruptive influence. I recognise that he can drive the team forward but at what price?

NottsGeordie’s team @ 8 is probably the way to go, but there’s no Guti.

On Pieters I think Psv are playing a dangerous game. His release clause does not come into force until next year apparently, so they need to sell this year, but are pushing the price upwards towards 7-8m Euros. We may not be willing to go there. They need the funds to replace him ASAP so it is daft to play silly buggers and get close to the deadline in the hope we panic and give in.

Anyway, I hear he is not great offensively, is that a problem or could he add that to his game in time?

Ed was that Gervinho the winger, or the whinger?

Barton defo in the team. as one of a 3 man midfield. Tiote holding, barton and Cabaye playmaking, Jonas and Ober doing the running Ba/Shola at the top of the pitch with back to goal.
When HBA fit he slots in instead of Ober/Jonas or plays as a 2nd Striker if we go 442
Can do all of that with the players we have, plus a LB.

Time for everyone to cut the crap about the Toon in the media. Just tell us things we want to here about like definitely signed Pieters & a first class striker who’ll give us 20 goals+ a season. Joey must stay he’s the heart & soul of the team now but he must learn to shut up & just perform on the pitch. All Toon fans want is hear is good news such we as we are playing well & winning starting next week at Stadium o Shite

I was holding my breath when Joey grab Gerhinho after he was stamped on by Song, but he seems different than before when you saw him durring the game he made peace with Song. I think he has change into better person hopefully not just for short time. We have the benefit of replay, the players don’t, so.. not Barton’s fault when he thought that Gervinho dived, because we all thought so too even the reff. If he keeps it up, I can see he gets new contract that he wanted.
