After Joey Barton’s behavior yesterday, that ended in Arsenal winger Gervinho being sent off, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has again defended his midfield star after the game.
Joey Barton – will stay this season on Tyneside
There’s no doubt that Pardew has a soft spot for Joey and they seem to get on just fine, and even see eye to eye, well at least most of the time.
There are still doubts as to whether Joey will stay on Tyneside for this season, but the news in the Sunday papers today about Joey will hardly have too many clubs clamoring after his services, however good a player he is – and Joey is a very good player, there’s no doubt about that.
This is what Al;an said today about his right winger today:
“I think he’ll be here after the transfer window. You can never say 100 per cent in football but I think so,”
“I think me and Joey know what we’re doing.” “He hasn’t got a contract for next season and that’s hanging over him, but the most important assurance, for me, is that he pulls for the team on a Saturday.”
“He gave me assurances on Friday that he was fully committed and he showed that on the pitch.”
You could see yesterday, especially in the second half, that Joey could be a key player again for the side, as he already has the vast experience of playing in the Premier League, and could help the new French contingent get up to speed on Tyneside.
But we are worried that Joey has had a big relapse, and that his anger tantrums are again getting the better of him.
We’d like nothing better than for Joey to get his head down and start to play like he did last season, and keep out of the limelight and out of trouble, and please give up that Twitter account.
But somehow, we just cannot see him doing that for some reason, but we still hope that’s what happens this season.
