One player who impressed Newcastle fans on Saturday with his skill and speed was new signing Gabriel Obertan.
Gabriel Obertan – in action on Saturday
22 year-old Obertan has been at Newcastle since last Tuesday, and as far as he is concerned there is a good spirit in the Newcastle camp, and he also enjoyed the training last week with the Newcastle squad:
“The integration has been easy. It’s quite easy to fit into the group.” “I’m just happy that training has gone well, and the atmosphere in the group is good.”
“It’s good, I’m lucky that the fans like quick and tricky players, so I hope I’ll do well for them.” “I’ll give my best on the pitch, and as long as the club gets results, I’ll be happy.”
“If I need to be defending more, or whatever, I’ll do it.” “The last season was quite frustrating, so I’m up for anything on the pitch.”
Even though Newcastle struggled to hold Arsenal in the first half, the Magpies had a wonderful chance in those last 15 minutes, after Arsenal had been reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of former Newcastle target Gervinho.
But although the lads tried hard, they couldn’t get that winning goal, and one disappointing aspect about the Newcastle performance, was they made nothing of the set plays they had.
Obertan talked about his debut for Newcastle:
“It was great, but we could have done better.” ”They were down to 10 men. We’re still happy with one point.” “It’s important to grab something from the big teams, but a win would have been better.”
“I was relieved. Last season especially was a bit frustrating for me, and it just felt good to be on the pitch for 45 minutes, and to enjoy my football.” The most important thing for me was to get my confidence back and make good passes.”
“I created some opportunities, so it was good overall. The only thing missing was the three points, but we are still happy with the point.”
We would have taken a point from the game before kick-off, and it was a very good point, especially when Chelsea and Liverpool could only draw their first games too.
Now to get all 3 points at Sunderland on Saturday, and let’s hope we have a left-back and a striker in by then too!
