News today from the French media that Newcastle have bid for Souchaux striker Modibo Maiga.
Modibo Maiga – 23 year-old Mali striker
The 23 year-old 6’1″ striker joined Souchaux from Le Mans only last year, and he has 16 caps for his country, Mali, and 3 international goals.
There has been no word at all from Newcastle, and these reports are coming out of France this morning.
The reports over there, suggest Newcastle are on the verge of signing the player for around €8m (about £7M), and have already offered the player a five-year contract.
That would suggest that Souchaux have already accepted the Newcastle offer for their striker.
Maiga can play as an out and out a striker, but he can also play on either wing and is left footed.
He started his career at Mali club Stade Malien back in 2003, and moved one year later to Raja CA, which is a club based in Casablanca, before moving to Le Mans in 2007.
In his career to date, he has played 125 games and scored a total of 30 goals, but we don’t know too much more about him.
This would be a surprise if it’s true, bit ti could be true, and we were told Newcastle had identified three strikers on the continent they could move for, if other moves were not successful.
The youngster has done well at Souchaux, having hit 15 goals in 36 appearances fro the French side.
Comments welcome.

Comment #17Don’t know anything about him but refusing to play for your current club isn’t a good attitude.
It reeks and I think we will have issues later if he starts playing for us and another club comes in for him.
But on the positive, his stats are ok and he offers something different.

Comment #18Some of you are such twats it beggars belief.
Moaning because we might not sign a player that’s known throughout the world…pathetic.
This lad looks awesome and if he can get 15 at a club like Souchaux then he must be decent.
I’ve seen the youtube videos and he looks decent alright.
Besides that, buying a player like him will be cheaper and we will have an advantage over other teams managers as they probably won’t know him.
Some of you really are pathetic losers.

Know nothing about…. like we knew nothing about Tiote, Cabaye and Marveaux until announced by the club.
We knew about Ben Arfa because of his problems with his club. We suspected about Ba because he was a free agent.
Did we know about Pieters before our Tim let it slip, I don’t know.
I suspect that all the rumours about the club going after this player and that player are made up by journalists.

Comment #35I wouldn’t want him unless we were going to bring in another replacement in the ACoN were already going to lose Tiote,Ba and maybe Strolla, is we got this guy he’d go as well. So if we got him I’d want someone like Rodalegga or Erdinc

Comment #38shaun83 Vela would offer us something that our current strikers don’t have, he’s 22 and has a point to prove, much like Obertan, all the things that MA seems to be looking for, would like to see him come in on a long term deal with the possibility of getting another striker in on loan

15 goals is still more than Nolan got last season, I know it’s a different league but still.
@everyone
I don’t think his goals/games ratio means much, just look at Ba, with WH he got 7 in 12 and yet people are already judging him for being slow and lazy ala Shola.
Personally, with the new additions coming in, I’m going to wait till about mid-season for the team to gel before I start judging the players, then I’ll start calling them crap! Lolz.
