Newcastle did very well on Saturday evening to pick up a valuable point against Arsenal at home.
Alan Pardew – proud to be Newcastle manager
And the Geordie fans could see that there is still a significant spirit in the side, and they got a look at two players in the second half, Gabriel Obertan and Yohan Cabaye, who looked like two very skillful players for Newcastle.
Alan Pardew talked about that Newcastle spirit today:
“You certainly couldn’t fault our spirit on Saturday,”
“Look at Jonas, running 50 meters in the second minute of injury time to make sure that Walcott didn’t get a cross in.” “That gives you the indication that things are okay.”
“We will fight in every corner of the pitch for the black and white. And I thought that was apparent.”
And Alan was even more upbeat about the great Newcastle support that the crowd gave to their team.
It wasn’t at all easy, and Newcastle were almost overwhelmed in that first half, but the defense held out well, and Fabricio Coloccini was again huge at the back for Newcastle, and the captain had another excellent game.
Alan Pardew was full of praise for the fans, and he revealed he was proud to be manager of Newcastle on Saturday:
“They were brilliant.” “We have had a hard time from the media this summer.” “The fans turned up and supported those wearing black and white and nothing else.”
“They were brilliant, I was proud to be the manager of this club.” “All we did was show some quality, there is a lot more quality to come.”
“But we were honest and that’s the box that we ticked.” “We dug in and showed that there is still plenty of spirit in our dressing room.
“You can’t fault the hard work of the team.” “I am sure that we won’t play another game like that where we don’t threaten from set plays though.”
” We wasted every single one of them which was a shame.”
Of course one thing that sets Newcastle apart from other clubs is their support for their team, which is legendary around the world.
The Geordies have always been completely dedicated to Newcastle United, and as Arsene Wenger himself said last August, the whole City lives and breathes football.
This is what Arsene said twelve months ago:
“When the FIFA delegation arrive in Newcastle this week, I hope they are stunned by the sight of St. James’ Park and by the way it dominates the skyline.”
“A sporting citadel and the heartbeat of the City in a City that lives and breathes football.” “There, they have a love of the game that is quite remarkable.”
We may not be too good at winning trophies, in fact we’re absolutely hopeless at it, but the support you see for Newcastle United from their fans, is quite simply second to none!

Comment #4Andy i’ve said for a while that Wenger and Ashley are made for each other, a manager who doesn’t want to spend money and an owner who doesn’t want his manager to spend money.
Match made in heaven if you ask me 😉

Comment #5Shola’s just got a new contract.
Means we’ll get two years of him sauntering around (often in an off-side position) not closing down, or making himself available.
Then in two-years time he’ll have a brilliant pre-season … get another contract … he’s already done it for ten years …

Comment #17Whats the deal on this Maiga fella? He seems like a younger version of Ba/Shola and not the pacy striker we need. If he comes I’ll welcome him with open arms but for the sake of an extra £3m, I don’t know why they don’t go for Miralem Sulejmani.
Ajax have been looking to cut their losses and are willing to take £10m, he’s 22, full Serbian international who fits perfectly into the “master” plan

Comment #27Ok, the boy was, alongside Brown one of the two Sochaux’s top striker last season.
As Brown have already leave, i don’t see Sochaux sell him.
Especially cause, he’s not the only one who want to leave, and if the club let him go like that, Martin and Boudebouz can leave as well.
SO it will be a tough battle, so, don’t expect to see him sign this week.
As time is now important, i think the club must move on someone esle and not rely only on him.
For what concern the pitch, the guy is sure interesting, but i must point out, he have played in an excellent team last year, with very skilled players for passing.
And it was is only 15 goals season until now. Anyway, he fit the profile of players wanted by the club.
Honnestly, i’m not sure. Fomr my point of view, this is risky, but as i’ve said yesterday, i trust Graham Carr.
My greatest concern is about the deal. As i’ve said, it should be an endless trench war.

Comment #30Why did Barton take most of the free kicks on Saturday. I don’t understand it at all. We’ve got a very good set piece taker in Cabaye and also Raylor is very good, but yet most of the set pieces were taken by Mr. Barton. I want him out of Newcastle, yes you have to fight for the black n white as a player, but not in the way he did it. Like I said he is a ticking bomb. And I also don’t understand why Pardew did not sub him, cause he was on the verge of getting a red card (which he should have got!!!).
On the new possible signings:
http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/psv/10368508/__Pieters__Gesprek_na_crematie__.html?sn=voetbal
Translated (most interesting parts):
1. Brands (manager of PSV) confirmed that discussions are ongoing.
2. Pieters lets his agent do all negotiations, because of the funeral of his grandmother

He generally don’t play in the depth. Thats the main technical problem i think.
I don’t see him catch Ben arfa and Cabaye’s pass.

A FK that hit the wall from 25 yards out? Shocking…
His effort however in the 1st half from near the halfway line was pretty special. Took it from absolutely nothing!
Ideally want to see more consistancy on deliveries.

There i nothing mentioned about that (and it is the first time I hear this). Krul is mentioned in the dutch article, but only that Pieters will be united with his pal Krul, who he knows from internationals with the Netherlands.

Comment #40i agree with pardew, we definitely showed quality on saturday, some of the passing was good but a bit unlucky. are defence was first-class simo, saylor and collo were solid, i was really impressed by them, and even know ba and ameobi were poor they did seem to have a bit of a understanding and i think they can work togeter.
