FA Upholds Gervinho Three Match Ban For Red Card

Arsenal winger Gervinho has had his three match suspension for violent conduct confirmed today by the FA.

The altercation between Gervinho and Barton last Saturday

Arsenal had issued an appeal against the three match ban that  the Ivory Coast would receive automatically for the red card he picked up after an altercation with Newcastle’s Joey Barton during Saturday’s game.

The FA has just placed the news on its web site.

A commission heard the claim today and quickly dismissed it, after viewing video of why Gervinho was sent off.

The 24 year-old was seen to slap Joey Barton in the face, and the Newcastle winger fell like he had been hit by lightning, and the referee showed Gervinho a red card and Barton a yellow card.

Gervinho will now miss the next three league games, and to think if Newcastle had got their man Joey and Gervinho could have been team-mates at Newcatsle.

And there are reports today that Alex Song has received a three match ban as well, but that’s not yet completely true, since the player has only been charged with violent conduct, and has until today at 5:00 pm to appeal.

If he appeals, the FA will then study the appeal before issuing the sentence, although the standard penalty for violent conduct is also a three match ban.

Alex Song was seen clearly to stamp on Joey Barton in the second half of Saturday’s game, and before the Gervinho incident, and we fully expect Alex to finally receive a three match ban too.

Comments welcome.

    @NottsG

I’d rather think he did so FA would react to Barton aswell.
But it’s seemingly sorted, and thats the end of that.

Does this have anything to do with the clubs being charged btw, or is that a separate matter?

We should change that appeal and say “Barton had it all under control”, lol.

Alex Song should get a 6 game ban for being a slimy coward, if you are going to hit someone have the balls to do a good job of it.

Some people on here really make me laugh. Quote of the day today is:

    ichrisho // Aug 16, 2011 at 2:24 PM

@wynsleap – A tad harsh mate. Stoke offered near 8m for Ameobi not long ago and Lovenkrands would defo get into at least 6-7 teams in premiership

HAhahahahaa 8 mill for ameobi if i remember rightly it was reported they wanted him on loan and that Birmingham were going to try and get him for 1.5mill. 8 mill for ameobi that is very funny Ichrisho stop taking you current medication fella.

He should have had his ban increased for wasting the FA’s time.

It was clearly a red-card offence.

thats probably what they will say 😀 they’ll say barton wasnt out of control he was just frustrated at Gervinhos diving. then they’ll say no of the other players acted in an out of control manner and that they were actually trying to break it up which shows that they were under control.

11mill for Jelavic surely a load of rubbish there is no way he is worth that much from what i have seen looks very similar to leon best who would prob score 19 or more for rangers lol this is never going to happen.

Jelavic is a lump, we don’t need another, Surely we could get Sulejmani for the same price quoted!?

Notts, I’ve got a brilliant defense and midfield, not so great STs, although I’ve got Sturridge and if he moves he could be a bargain! 😛

I agree about the price @TurkishMagpie.

Honestly i’d take him over this Maiga fella. From what i’ve seen he has been playing against some poor defense in the french league (from videos granted). I just don’t think he is what we need. And i doubt his ability to hack it in the PL.

I’d take Jalavic. Granted the SPL is poor but at least he will be used to playing in a league that is similar in intensity and physicality.
