Newcastle Linked With English Forward

There’s a report out today that Newcastle are interested in Bristol City’s Nicky Maynard

Nicky Maynard – are Newcastle really interested?

The report suggests that manager Alan Pardew is ready to offer Bristol £4.5m plus Leon Best for the player.

So if Best is worth around £4M, we would offer £8.5M for a lower league player, who is hardly well known?

I don’t think so.

The 5’5″ forward has been at Bristol City since 2008, and in 104 appearances has scored 38 goals, and before that the 24 year-old was at Crew Alexandra from 2005, and scored 35 goals in 67 appearances for them.

Before joining Crewe,  Maynard was on Arsenal’s books from the age of 7, and yes,  they recruit them very young these days, don’t they.

We haven’t seen this lad play, so we have no idea how good he is, but we cannot believe Newcastle would pay that amount for this player.

And of course he would be a huge risk, since he’s completely untested at the higher levels of English football.

What do you think?

Woah 4.5m PLUS Best – No way. Thats too much. He plays in the league below – not the number 9 we were looking for albeit he would be a good sub rather than Ranger.

definitely not worth £8.5 million and shouldn’t be our marqueue signing up top but would be a decent addition to the team IF we were signing another striker.

Has looked decent enough when I’ve seen him in championship games but if we signed him then that’d be it for the toon so would rather someone else! Better than most of what we have at the moment though.

    No chance.

Hopefully we’ll hear better news developing today on Pieters if the funeral was yesterday. Same goes for a striker, minus the funeral.

We should be going for a top proven goalscorer someone like defoe. Wouldnt of been my first choice but you have to admit he is a country mile better than what we have. Wouldnt come cheap and high wages but you sometimes have to pay to going rate if u want proven quality

How is it £8.5m? Ed just picked a number out of the Air and decided Best is worth £4m. We payed about £2m for Best which would make it £6.5m for this guy.

I agree though that he’s not the answer and we need to look elsewhere.

    @ 2 Ameobi’s

Sorry mate but I disagree on defoe. Had a horrible season last year. Yeah he has the quality but just doesn’t seem to score enough. 130 goals in 356 games isn’t enough for the price we’d have to pay to bring him here.

Has anyone seen him play? He looks class…

    Have a look on youtube.

I agree that £4.5m plus Best is outrageous but Leicester tried to get him for £3m. We should be able to get him for similar fee although I would hope we would get a bigger name striker as well as him.

    Amazing goal – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCsfGkrqDQk

Maynard is a good player and a bit harsh to say no experience in higher levels of english football! No prem experience granted. Don’t actually believe this story has any substance but wouldn`t mind hum coming in, just not as our sole forward signing

like i said he wouldnt of been my first choice, berba or sturridge anyday, but with time running out we need a goalscorer and id feel better with defoe up front over shola/ba/loverman/best. Just my opinon mate, would also take pav of them.

Oh ffs. Not this Sturridge cr@p again.

Out of all the forwards @ chelsea, he was the most impressive during Pre-Season. Yes That includes the like of Fancy Haired Torres, Diving Didier Drogba, Solo-men Calf Poo and Frowny Faced Anelka.

Andre Villas Boas did not become a successfull 33 year old manager by loaning out his “better” players.

We missed our chance of getting sturridge to wear a Nufc top, even if temporary. So just forget about the lad already.

Seriously. We have a better chance of winning a lottery big enough to shove Mike Ashley off his Toilet @ the top of the Newcastle Hierarchy.

I personally quite like Maynard, over the past 2 seasons he has a 1 in 2 record for a team who finished 15th last season, he’s fast and I personally think he’s a tidy player to join up with the skillful French lads… wouldnt pay 8.5m though!!

A lot of people here are saying that we need a pacy striker to feed off knock downs from ba/ameobi, someone like bellamy. I have to disagree though, Playing as a lone striker up front, he has to be able to drop back and help to link up the play, or our midfield will never get anywhere near the opposition goal. That’s what you need in a 451 formation.

Seen the other day that Man U were offering us Macheda and Diouf on loan to get first team experience. I would take them both but Macheda for me would be great, diouf isnt exactly better than what we already have.

Lets see if Cwarr’s bullsh*t is proven wrong again, he said we were getting bendtner and now says were getting Situ, Maiga and Pieters. The kids a idiot

Seen him play… he’s the best player in the city side by far. Better than a few we alredy have, knows how to score freely. However, he’s not worth huge money and keep Best..

Maynard is 5 ft 11.5 in, not the 5″5 Ed stated.
I personally don’t want Maiga at this club, his attitude seems terrible, plus he is so similar to our other two tall men (Ba and Shola). Maynard might be worth a punt at 3M.

I live in bristol and even though it seems like a lot of money, trust me he is better then best, ameobi, loverboy, ranger. so basicly he is better then what we got. scored alot of goals in poor sides in the championship. buying a striker from the french league is just as much as a gamble from buying from championship

He can’t possibly be worth that much. I say 3 mil with Loverman, maybe even chuck Nile Ranger in on a loan.

Also reports this morning that we have been offered Macheda and Diouf. The best news all summer if this is true.
