Newcastle left-back target Erik Pieters will be on PSV Eindhoven’s flight to Austria for their Europa League clash with SV Ried tomorrow night.
Erik Pieters – in PSV squad for tomorrow’s game
As we reported earlier today it seems the £6M transfer fee is holding up the move for Pieters, and Mike Ashley seems to be balking at the fee, and why that’s the case we have no idea.
The facts seem to be consistent that Pieters wants £30K/week in wages, which seemingly Newcastle are willing to pay, and PSV want £6M for their Dutch International defender, and Newcastle are not willing to pay that.
PSV Communications Manager Pedro Salazar Hewitt has told the Lee Ryder, of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:
“He is traveling with us to Austria.” “If nothing else happens he will be in the squad on Thursday night.”
If Erik plays on Thursday night, even if he’s signed by Newcastle before the game at Sunderland at noon on Saturday, he will not play for the Magpies.
Newcastle had put a priority on getting a new left-back signed quickly, as Newcastle lost their third very good player this year only last Friday, when Jose Enrique finally got the move to Liverpool, ha has since said he craved.
Newcastle will have to sign Pieters by noon on Friday to be eligible for the Sunderland game, but if he plays for PSV on Thursday evening, he will not play against Sunderland.
Newcastle had an excellent chance of bringing in a very good replacement for Enrique, in the 10 times capped Dutch International, but the move seems to have hit a road block.
Ryan Taylor, James Perch and the fit again, Shane Ferguson, are all now available to play left back against the old enemy Sunderland on Saturday, and we’d prefer young Ferguson to get the nod, if he’s fit enough.
We would just love it if Newcastle can still get Erik Pieters and Souchaux striker Modibo Maiga through the door before the end of the transfer window – just love it!
We think they would be two terrific buys for the Magpies.
Comments welcome.

I agree mate, I think that PSV are trying to squeeze as much cash out of the deal as they can, that is why Cissokho’s name came up yesterday.
I think Pieters is out No1 target, but it sounds a bit like Wigan’s N’Zogbia Price structure to me – Who you are and when you ask determines the price!

Comment #52so this is my first post but ive been reading this blog for a long time and i have to say it used to annoy me a little when i seen people being so negative about transfers, or lack of, however as this window goes on, like others before it, i’m tending to lean on the negative side too, id be very (pleasantly) surprised if we sign anymore players, i know there has been reports saying there wont be any loans coming in, but it seems to me that that is the only realistic solution considering the board and owner dont seem to want to spend the money for decent players. i would like to think ashley and co arent stupid enough to not get us a new left back at the VERY least, but as time wears on i wonder….

Comment #68I don’t get what Ashley is holding on for.
Our dealings have been:
Sold:
Carroll – 35m
Nolan – 4.5m
Enrique – 5.5m
Routledge – 2m
Total: 47m
Spent:
Cabaye – 4.5m
Obertan – 3m
Total: 39.5m
If we have around £39m to spend why can’t he commit a measly £6m for Peters and spend £10-15m on a decent striker?
That’ll leave around £18m which the greedy twat can keep for all I care so long as we bring in our much needed left back and striker.

NUFC XI 5 G’head XI 0 (60mins) A strong Magpies side including Sam Ameobi, Vuckic, Marveaux & Ranger 3 up at HT, then scored 2 in a minute.
Seems like a few of the lads are trying to get up on match fitness. This was today earlier on. Expect an article on nufc.co.uk later i think

Comment #76i think we sign about 0.01% of the players we are limked with. When will we get the owner this club deserves that willsee the club run correctly and not have pictures of the owner and kiddie fiddler M.D. in the papers every week cant remember the last time the main focus on the club was actually about the team playing football.

Comment #77It’s simple. My cousin has special needs and he could do the maths here. We need a left back and fast. The window is closing, our chances are slim as it is because clubs will not want to sell and not be able to replace. We do not have time to be picky here and that is our own fault for not telling Liverpool to bid for enrique soon or wait til January. Like Bolton have with Cahill (who will likely stay now).
He costs the same as Enrique but at cheaper wages. Oh and He’s an international unlike Jose. Whats the problem with that. It’s a joke that the deal will fall through because we are lowballing people all the time. We really need some balls in the transfer window
