Transfer Fee Holding Up Pieters Move

There has been a delay in getting Dutch International left-back Erik Pieters to Newcastle.

Erik Pieters – £6M too much for Newcastle?

The reports suggest that PSV want £6M for the player, and the Dutchman wants £30K/week from Newcastle, and since he is replacing Jose Enrique, who went to Liverpool for £6M, and was on around £45K/week, what’s the problem?

Well it seems the problem is that Newcastle are balking on the £6M fee for the 23 year-old, and are looking at alternatives.

A spokesman for the Grandstand football agency, which is the agency representing Pieters, has said that Newcastle’s attempts to buy the Dutchman are not near completion:

“It is not clear whether the two clubs have agreed a fee yet,”  “We are still waiting to hear from both sides.”

We reported earlier today that Newcastle are looking at taking Wayne Bridge on loan from Manchester  City for the seaosn, but that would be an expensive deal, and they have also registered an interest in Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho, who we watched play for Lyon, against Rubin Kazan, last night.    .

Lyon won 3-1 in that European Champions qualifying round first leg, after going one goal down early in that game, and Aly put in a solid performance.

But Newcastle have been put off by Lyon’s £8M evaluation of their player, although Cissokho is said to be very keen to join Newcastle.

We know that Newcastle want to get bargain buys, but balking at £6M for Erik Pieters seems a bit strange because the fee from Enrique will pay for Erik, and Newcastle will be getting a player on two thirds of the wages of Jose.

It seems, at least in our opinion, this is getting just a little bit ridiculous, always assuming the news on Pieters is indeed true.

We just wish Newcastle would pay out good money for a good player when it’s necessary, and not be so miserly, especially when they have just lost one of their best players – for the third time this year.

What do you think?

Even though we have signed some decent players this window, we are still hopeless at transfer negotiations .. just look at how many targets we have missed out on .. hope this deal doesnt go the same way

I have a feeling that this transfer could be the straw that breaks the camels back with the fans. If they don’t do the right thing and stump up for Pieters and we end up with someone like Bridge or even a lower league player, This will push the fans too far.

I still cant believe how nieve the Newcastle board/manager etc have been. They knew Enrique was going, he WASNT going to sign a new contract. He was either not going to sign and stay at Newcastle till his contract ran out or be sold.

How many of you lot would want a player like Enrique playing out the last year of his contract, knowing fine well his heart isnt in in at Newcastle?? He would have been a liability.

WHY wasnt/hasnt a replacement been signed?? They say they have been monitoring the situation (this was before Enrique was sold) and had plans in place. WHAT PLANS??? Why is it taking so long. They knew we had two tough games atthe start, esp with the Scumderland game on Saturday. And still no sign of anyone anywhere near signing

Its pathetic…..id rather have Gordon McKeag as owner/chairman than those bunch of idiots!

Ridiculous really, if we are raising our eyebrows at £6m. That is actually a more than decent price for a young, current Dutch international.

    On a plus side, it doesn’t actually say we’ve done that. It says;

“It is not clear whether the two clubs have agreed a fee yet,” “We are still waiting to hear from both sides.”

So it’s not clear, as opposed to its a no go. Like on dumb and dumber, “one in a million… So there is a chance” 🙂

Dumb and dumber seems quite apt when commenting on our board’s thought processes.

It hurts when you see teams like Wolves, Stoke and even Bolton more willing to spend than us. We have the set up which should allow us to compete with the likes of Spurs but now we’re not even competing with the above mentioned teams.

Why does it seem strange that we aren’t spending the £6M we got for Jose on a replacement? If that was the way we did business we’d have a decent striker by now.

I think you are right. While not being up ashlley’s arse like angryman suggested, I have at least tried to see both sides.

However, we could easily had some good players in by now if we weren’t so tight and if Bridge and C.Cole / Crouch come in, I’ll be sick and disgusted.

Mike Ashley obviously has no clue about how to cater to the needs of his customers, i.e Us fans, Because if he had any clue, he would sign Pieters and get our Pacy striker in. That would get the fans straight off his back for the time being and he would be protecting his investment. How this guy is a self made billionaire beggars belief.

I hate the transfer window, it gets your hopes up every time! to DASH them everytime! I just don’t know why things can’t be simple.
If the board knew how us fans feel “which im sure they do” they would try to appease us best they can, as the relationship between us & them just seems so far apart.

Take a breath, go back to the top of this thread and read the opening line. It says “The reports suggest….”
If that’s not the wooliest, lack of facts, pure guesswork intro I’ve ever read, then I don’t know what is.

Does anyone really believe that some two-penny hack has the inside track on these negotiations ?

Pieters on 30k a week & 6m is a bargain, I would personally pay more than that for a regular international @ 23 yrs old.

toonarmy1986 @14 never said a truer word, Ashley will not compete with those teams. His only ambition is that we stay in the Premier league, no more ambition than that. No interest in entertainment on the pitch, No interest in us as fans, he bought us on a whim and now he just wants his money back I would guess, 29M taken back in 09 and I would bet probably 50M taken back in 2010.

The only strange one was why did he buy Ben Arfa for 5.7M, must have thought he could sell him on this year for a big return.

I just think Mr Ashley is very pig headed about how things are done, I think he sets out his stall so to speak and leaves no room for negotiation, If the price quoted and wages for Pieters is true he will be saving 15k a week in wages alone. That’s 780k a year. It’s a no brainer if you ask me.

I think it’s more of a problem with weighing up both Pieters and Cissokho. While both are tipped to be great players Cissokho is a bit more experienced and higher rated and for 2mill more might be worth it but he also does seem to have a medical problem with his teeth that would at some point could spread to his spinal cord.

i dont believe the bridge story, everything weve done in the window so far and everything that has been written by the club state that were looking to buy young [foreign?] players on the cheap [more than likely to sell them on for profit in a couple of years!] id say that 6m is about as hight they’d pay

Ashley is pig headed. Thats why we got HBA, Tiote and Cabaye on our terms and not on the selling clubs terms.

Clubs know we are desperate for a LB so they will up the fee. The game has to be played out. Thank God some of you fans aren’t spending the clubs money – you’d be had over dead easy.
