Only Newcastle could start the week off with three good goalkeepers and be urgently after a top left back to replace Jose Enrique, and end the week with a new goalkeeper, and no new left back in sight.
Rob Elliot – signing for Newcastle today?
Fraser Forster, who would appear to have lost his chance at Newcastle, has been sent out on loan to Celtic for the season, and Newcastle were left with veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper and 23 year-old Ditch International Tim Krul.
But it now appears that Newcastle will announce the signing today of 25 year-old 6’3″ Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot for a minimal fee.
The news is that Rob will be on the bench for the game at Sunderland on Saturday, so where this leaves 36 year-old Steve Harper, who has been Newcastle’s number one since Shay Given left the club in January of 2009, we have no idea.
Maybe Steve’s knee is playing up again, because only last week manager Alan Pardew had praised Harper and said the local lad had nothing to prove at Newcastle.
Newcastle wanted a new left back this week, but it seems unlikely one will arrive now, and we suppose either Shane Ferguson or Ryan Taylor will now play in that position on Saturday, as Newcastle’s efforts in the transfer market are not being too successful this week.
Of course, Newcastle should still be good enough to take all 3 points at the Stadium of Light on Saturday – that’s a no brainer.
😀

Just not sure what Emnes would cost as he just signed a new longterm contract with Boro.
Maynard is in the last year of a deal at Bristol.

Or would you want him in as a long term replacement for Lovern?

Comment #48Get Maigo and Maynard in… Perfect foil for Ba and Ameobi. Lovenkrands to Rangers, Best as backup, Ranger gone to Birmingham on Deadline Day and use Fergie for LB… as I truly dont think he will go over £3m for an LB.

Comment #51@50 – Bristol are going to want £4.5 like Reading got for Long. Still a good buy if you ask me. Quick and a good striker of the ball. Thoughts?

Comment #58How the standards have dropped. First it was Sturridge, Gervinho, Gameiro, Defoe, Crouch, now we are begging for Maynard and Emnes. This club will fall faster then a stone if we don’t bring in PL standard Striker and Left Back and we will fall even faster if we sell anymore players. Ashley is taking one huge gamble with this club. He does not realise what the club means to Supporters and for the city in general. To him the club is a bit of fun, to us the club is part of life. He has ripped the club apart from top to bottom. He has changed the name of stadium even though it has had the same name for over 100 years, he has splashed “SPORTS DIRECT” all over the f…ing stadium yet some of you say Sports direct has nothing to do with the club AND he has made HUGE, HUGE profits from selling our best players and bringing freebies in. He has sold a player in Carroll who the club have nurtured for years WELL BEFORE Ashley bought the club. He has sold our leading goal scorer from last season and he refuses to give our best player from last season a decent contract. The man is an absolute waste of time and space. He hates the club and he hates the supporters and only has himself to blame.

Problem?
You have just picked a player who has started the season well, the fact that he could not get a game for Boro for his first 3 seasons should ring some alarm bells.
Boro fans think he is a joke and would of been happy for him to of gone in summer, the only reason he was playing is they couldn’t afford another striker.

Has Krancjaer signed for them then?
Wickham, A lot of money for a kid who has done nothing, yet
And Brown is no better than Simpson.
Gyan yes I’d take him but he’s be the only one who could get in our starting 11

Hit the nail on the head mate. It would cost us about 15mil to get Pieters and another striker but thats clearly to expensive for billionaire MA.

Comment #68Here something needs to happen with this club, something needs organised by the fans (I don’t know what!) We as the fans have been completely mugged off this transfer window, Andy Carroll £35m, Enrique £5.5m, Nolan £4.5m, Routledge, £2.2m. £47.2m in total before u even take into account shirt sponsors, merchandise sales, our 12th place finish money, and the millions you get in TV money. Anyone who says this transfer window has been a success in the slightest is a mug to be honest. I try to be on the positive side all the time, but you have to look at it how it is. Maiga?! Haway man he scored 15 goals, playing against the equivalent to our league one teams, and it was marvin martin (class) and Ryad Bourbouz (class) supplying the balls, can’t see him getting half that in the prem! Aye pieters looks alrite, granted. But all the reports suggest our board won’t match their £6 mil evaluation, why not FFS! We really are gonna struggle this season, not relegated IMO, because I do think there is 3 worse teams then Newcastle, but you can forget Top 10!

We can’t waste Fergie at left back
Obertan has a point tp prove and looked good when he came on against Arsenal
Not seen enough of Marveaux yet
And it should be Best and Ba upfront for us this weekened

Comment #74Nolan would have been good for another season or two but then we would have had another Smith on our hands so Cabaye is a better option long term

Comment #75Gotta admit FF looked fairly wank during pre season but I think he still has the potential to be a decent keeper. All keepers make mistakes. He has been out on loan a few times and each time they have wanted him back. I really dont see a big need to sign another keeper considering we have 2 youngsters coming through.
Looking at the Maiga guy, do we really want someone like this at our club? If he is really so good, why are there not many other clubs fighting for him?
In a perfect world, would love to have Pieters wrapped up, Sturridge on a permanent and a Bellamy esq striker. I would think Erdinc would fit the profile of the latter but there is only so many times you can reject a club.
