Newcastle supporters are getting to be convinced that Newcastle are simply dragging their feet in their recruitment for a new left back to replace Jose Enrique and another top striker.
Modibo Maiga – Newcastle have lodged bid
Newcastle have not had any success since early this summer in bringing in a second striker and spent lots of time in trying to bring in Mevlut Erdinç and Kevin Gameiro to Newcastle and were also unsuccessful in their attempts to get winger Gervinho from Lille.
And their latest target is Modibo Maiga and his club Souchaux, have said all summer they will not sell him, so there is a worry that this pursuit will laos turn out to be unsuccessful and a waste of time, with only 12 days left in the transfer window.
And Newcastle’s unwillingness to do deals, is after the club got a big windfall for Andy Carroll, and the club have also sold Kevin Nolan, Routledge and Enrique this summer, so the money is there.
Alan Pardew was asked directly today why Newcastle have failed to land their targets and it was suggested to him that Newcastle should just pay the little but more to get their men:
“We might have to do that and we might be at the stage where we are doing that.” “So that question might be talking out of turn there.”
“I have sat in another press conference as I have done quite often here with nobody across the line, but at some point we will.”
You get the feeling with those words that Alan is as frustrated as anybody that Newcastle are continuing to play Scrooge.
And you have to remember the club has big money in the bank, because we were told that £30M of the £35M fee Newcastle received for Andy Carroll from Liverpool in January, was paid in cool cash.
To end on a brighter note, Pardew indicated that the move for 23 year-old Souchaux striker Modibo Maiga is still ongoing:
“He is a player we want to bring to the club. That is where that is. Negotiations are still ongoing.”
We have to hope that one day the Newcastle hierarchy will wake up, smell the coffee (and drink a few strong cups of it), and get some deals done for the good of the club and for the good of the fans.
They have 12 days to do that.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Mike Ashley tries to turn this club into a profitable business; and yet he continues to alienate Newcastle’s biggest asset: the fans.

Comment #9If we didn’t have any money then I could understand the situation at the club, but we’ve brought in enough money with the sale of players to be able to pay what is needed to get a striker and left back in

Comment #10As much as I have a soft spot for Dutch players, I can handle the delay if we are going for Cissokho rather than Pieters. From what I understand Cissy is a better player. You never know, he may be Bernard mk2!

alans not arsed really, of course he wants todo well as a manager , he’s been given the most high profile job of his life , but really he’s in the job cos mike is paying off his debt and wanted someone who would keep shut and go along with whatever happens at the club , namely trying to get mikes money back as quickly as possible without damaging the clubs chance of a sale to much .
if mike an keep the club just above relegation for a cpl of season (higher is a bonus but not needed) while farming these cheap deals and pocketing transfer cash that comes in , he can get his money back out of the club within a cpl of years .
few more seasons of this ahead of us

Comment #21Pieters 6m and Daniel Sturidge…3m loaning fee (who cares its not us paying it is it?) and loan for a season..would give us a top 8 side and good chance of europe, Sturridge would fall in love with the No 9 shirt and we would buy him next year….hows that for a plan??

Comment #22Agree 110% that we need a left back and goalscorer, but selling clubs abroad see the money that is been splashed around by a few PL clubs and think that we are all rolling in cash, then players think the same. So if some-one makes a stand against all of this as MA appears to be doing then who suffers, in this case its NUFC and the fans. But, somewhere along the line the authories have to get hold of this crazy world of PL football and rein it in, Man city have team of strikers now and that says it all.
So yeh lets get a full back and a striker in ASAP, but at the same time lets have a well managed club working within our means.
As for Enriques outburst, Jose please just shut up, you messed the club around for ages.

Comment #23@ Indian – he also brought in Fat Sam with one of the biggest and most expensive backroom staff in the PL.
I think at that stage he genuinely wanted to spend and get success, and listened to the fans in getting rid of fat sam and replacing with KK.
It all went wrong with the appointment of Wise over KKs head, we all know what happened next and hes been trying to sell up ever since.

Never stay somewhere that you’re not wanted.
Never outstay your welcome.
Mike Ashley – “Do you really want to be here?”
I think it’s been “No” for quite some time.
So you’re not wanted and your not welcome.

Comment #27ThE independent are saying today that everton are struggling financially and may be forced to sell players, why can’t we bid for baines?!?! Fair enough he would maybe cost slightly more but would also bring more of a sell on fee as I reckon he’ll be englands first choice left back when cole retires and we all know mr Ashley likes a good sell on fee…..

Comment #29Ladbrokes make Sunderland favourites. This is because they mustered 15 shots on goal at Liverpool while we only mustered one shot at home. Must admit, it does look worrying. I would take a draw now if we could lol. If we get beat tomorrow it should show Ashley that he can not keep starving the club of signings. He must spend money. Also, if we are to get beat tomorrow and Ashley still refuses to release funds then Pardew should grow a pair of balls and walk.

Comment #30I can’t believe Pardew still hasn’t figured out what he’s got to do. He just needs to down a few pints with Ashley (but Pardew should non alcoholic beer otherwise he’s going to fall before Ashley) and then discuss transfer budgets. Easy game!

Comment #40Roshan – “i dont think we will sign a stricker” ……With respect, and as was pointed out yesterday, the word “Striker” does not contain a “c”. Striker not “Stricker” …..”STRIKER”
On topic -I really don’t think Pardew is the problem here and is probably as frustrated as everyone else. Ashley is gambling but as a result will almost certainly cost us points.
