England U19 manager Noel Blake has chosen his 18-man group for the game against the Netherlands early next month, and Newcastle’s 18 year-old goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is included.
Jak Alnwick – 18 year-old Newcastle goalkeeper
England U19s will play their first game of season in early September when they travel to the Netherlands. The England U19 side just missed out on a place in last season’s European U19 Championship Finals, by goal difference. to the eventual winners Spain.
England have received a bye through the European First Qualifying Round, and will now play in the Elite Round early next year.
England were beaten 3-0 by the Dutch last March, so it’s a good time to get even.
The England U19 Squad:
Goalkeepers: Sam Johnstone (Manchester United), Jak Alnwick (Newcastle)
Defenders: Adam Reach (Middlesbrough), Aziz Deen-Conteh (Chelsea), Jamaal Lascelles (Nottingham Forest), Kieran Kennedy (Manchester City), Louis Laing (Sunderland), Bruno Pilatos (Middlesbrough), Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea).
Midfielders: Chuks Aneke (Arsenal), George Thorne (West Bromwich Albion), Jordan Obita (Reading), Larnell Cole (Manchester United), Nico Yennaris (Arsenal).
Forwards: Benik Afobe (Arsenal), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Will Keane (Manchester United), Luke Williams (Middlesbrough).
It’s interesting that on the England FA web site, they have Jak Alnwick down as playing for Sunderland.
Jak was at Sunderland before joining Newcastle and of course his brother Ben played for Sunderland before joining Spurs in 2007.
Jak was born in nearby Hexham, as was Fraser Forster of course, and his two football idols are goalkeepers Pepe Reina and Steve Harper.
Comments welcome.

Comment #5I’ve changed my mind about starting Obertan… I think he will be MUCH more effective if brought on as a sub when Sunderland legs are tiring!… Also we need players who rarely give the ball away… I would love to see this starting line up…..

Best for Ameobi – final 30 mins

Gosling not a winger.
Marveaux not fully fit.
Cabaye a defensive midfielder.

Comment #10daztoon – Ferguson played left back for us a few times last year
Gosling has been known to play out on the right and is very comfortable there
Marveaux had 90 mins against Gateshead and played unreal
Cabaye can be very attackting minded (15 goals in 2009/2010 for Lille)
Ameobi – I agree… lol

Comment #11Bruce said no matter where they finish as long as above Newcastle ? what the ambition ! They have to. With the money they spend, The expectation will sky high.
Unlike us, honestly I don’t care where they finish. With our board ambition, All I can do is 100% support our team without any hope.

You want Barton in a defensive role? Gosling is pretty well versed in that position. Would swap Gosling and Barton in that cause.
I’d set it up as this:
******************KRUL******************
SIMPSON****SAYLOR****COLLO****FERGUSON
******************TIOTE******************
***********CABAYE****BARTON************
GUTTI***************************MARVEUX
****************SHOLA*******************
Subs: Obertan, Williamson, Best, Ba, Vuckic, Raylor
I think, if we have wings to play on, we should use em.
Sunderlands defense is as good as ours, poor, we should take advantage of that.

Good shout, however, i’d still start Marveux, and when fatigue hits, we should put Obertan in for him, and swap Gutti and Obertan.
We’d still have some great breakthrough power.

Comment #19ToonAndy;
Playing left back and being a left back is totally different. He is to light-weight and looks far better going forward than backwards.would see Cabaye more a playmaker role.Would like to see Vuckic start in the attacking role and maybe maurvaux coming on last 20 mins.

“We have contacted the Premier League today to register our concern at public statements being made by Newcastle after they withdrew their interest.”
ahahahhaha basically pardew “promised” charlton that wouldnt reveal the details of the bid, but knowing how he loves breaking the promises he makes, he spoke about the bid and thats pissed charlton off and they are gonna tell on pardew to the premier league ..lol
best news here is that we made an offer of 100k which was a final offer for rob elliot and they REJECTED (THANK HEAVENS) …so we are making 100k bids now…im bad at my math but i know we have earned more than 42 m in transfers and we wre gonna spend that on players ..so how many 100 k bids can we make hmmmmm…

Comment #24100K – what a cheap-skate – how insulting is that offer? Jaysus…
Newcastle made a formal written bid of £100,000 for the 25-year-old custodian on Wednesday, which was immediately rejected by Charlton.

Well, we’re buying players for more pace and better control of the game, we have the masterstroke in Cabaye, and
pace/dribbling ability in Marveux/Gutti. Tiote has a major presence with his DM role and Barton is our badboy.
Our flow relies on our midfield, we should use it to the fullest.

By factoring in free transfers and using some fancy whizzamabobs and hi-tech googaws I can tell you the maximum number of £100k bids we can make is…
2.8
But only if the players agree to work for tuppence a week and forego their daily jelly bean allowance.

Think your lineup isn’t bad but I think if we put Tiote and Barton as a two to cover the weaknesses in the defence and push Cabaye forward into the hole, That way Tiote and Barton can break up the play and Barton has the creative brain to get the ball to Cabaye. This way we aid the defence and stay creative, I would probaly say change it up in the second half, switch Jonas back to the left an bring on Obertan for Marveux as he is supposedly not fully match fit, If we tell Obertan to hug the touchline he would be deadly on the break. Still think we can slaughter them if we play the right people at the right times and in the right places.

Comment #33Not at all we wanted Smith as a forward before he went to manure. He has always been a forward never a midfielder in a million years. Why not give him a go,how many chances has Ameobi had,Ba looks average,Best the same,Lovenkrands lightweight and lost a yard.At least Smith would fight the cause

Comment #35GeordieToon89 that’s a joke right you want to play a player that’s gone about 5 years without a goal some keeper’s have a better goal scoring record than smith, I would drop a hint to smith and not give him a squad number.

Comment #36@ daztoon – at the risk of ridicule – he did win an engalnd cap in the no9 shirt, and scored too if i remember. He was being bandied around as Shearers heir at the time…
Beardo is still employed by the club, he could probably still do a job. I saw him on Masters Footy a while back and he scored a belter

Comment #37If we are able to play this team below at some time in October I will consider this window a great success.

Barton—————Cabaye——–Marveux—

That team is a fixture of raw pace, skill, passing and defensive balance. We could cause some serious damage with this team….(in theory). Playing 4-1-3-1-1.
This would be a new era, obviously Cissokho and Maiga are massive IF’s, but im still optimistic that we will get a decent replacement for Enrique and a new striker

Comment #40sick of people saying fergusons not a left back. He already stated last season that he now regards himself as a LEFT BACK see: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/05/21/shane-ferguson-happy-to-be-left-at-back-72703-28736830/
Yes he was a winger and yes he is light weight but his speed and agression more than makes up for it. If it was Wenger in charge everybody would be raving about him. Look what happened with Ashley Cole and K. Gibbs – they were both weedy left wingers but wenger gave them a chance.
Im sick of pardew saying hes only young as well- look at how wilshere is bossing midfields at international level! hes 19 and tiny. Ferguson has never ever put a foot wrong whilst playing at left back and im sure gutierez would give him a hand like he had to with r.taylor last week in 2nd half.
p.s r.taylor is as useful as a plank of wood. awful at this level.
