Gabriel Obertan makes his full debut for Newcastle United at Sunderland today, after an impressive second half outing last week against Arsenal.
As we had expected, Obertan replaces Demba Ba in the line-up to give some creativity to the strike force, and the 22 year-old starts alongside Shola Ameobi.
That’s the only change from Newcastle’s team from their draw with the Gunners last Saturday, and would you believe we actually got the team right in our match preview yesterday.
Yes – pure luck.
Veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper is the back-up to Tim Krul today, and is joined on the bench by Ba, Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best, all experienced players.
Sebastian Larsson starts for Sunderland, and he could be the big danger for Newcastle today, and former Newcastle center-back Titus Bramble is on the bench.
We could say that’s a pity, but we’ll not say that.
It should be another terrific derby game!
Howay The Lads – win it for the fans!!
Teams:
Sunderland (4-4-2): Simon Mingolet; Phil Bardsley, Wes Brown, Anton Ferdinand, Kieran Richardson; Sebastian Larsson, Lee Cattermole (c), Jack Colback, Ahmed Elmohamady; Stephane Sessegnon, Asamoah Gyan

Comment #8I fancy us to win 2-0 here. Shola and a late Marveaux goal. Marveaux-less!

Comment #21I must say I like many dont feel confident about todays game….just dont have that good feeling….two failing signings before today also dont help…..
excuse my negative view on things I just feel we are half the squad…. But I hope for the best, but wont get too upset if we loose….
Then again I will reek havoc on my appartement if we loose 😀

Comment #31Firstly, howay the lads, let’s stuff the makems…….
secondly, you been lying again Mr Pardew you useless piece of &%$£.
“We’re confident we’ll have some new players here by next weekend.”
“I don’t want to talk about specific players, but I’m confident that by the time we play Sunderland I’ll have a left-back in place – and hopefully a striker.”
