Sunderland Win Will Help Pardew Bring In New Players

One good thing about the win today at Sunderland,  is that it should help Alan Pardew persuade the powers that be at the club, to pay out the money to bring in some new players next week.

Steve Bruce and Alan Pardew pictured before the game today

Newcastle won 1-0 at Sunderland, with a great Ryan Taylor free kick after 62 minutes.

But Seb Larsson should have been sent off after just 15 minutes and Newcastle awarded a penalty, when the Swede handled the ball on the line.

An upbeat Alan Pardew also gave an update on new signings, and said the win will help him get new players in this coming week:

“A victory like today helps me with Managing Director Derek Llambias and Mike to go upstairs and say, ‘Come on, let’s try to get them in this week’.

“We want to get the right players and we want to get the best value we can, and we are trying to do that.

“The group I have got is sound.” “They are aware to balance us up, we perhaps need a left-back in the building and we need a striker in, and that’s what we are going to try to do.”

We thought last weekend that it was almost a certainty Newcastle would have signed PSV’s Erik Pieters last week.

But it now seems he’s too expensive for the club, so we’ll just have t wait and see if Newcastle make progress in the last 11 days of this transfer window.

We are not holding our breath for any early signings next week, but there’s still ample time left in the window.

Newcastle need a new striker and a top left back – at the very least – before September rolls around.

Comments welcome.

Not sure if you know about this, but JJ Hooper scored a hat-trick for his debut @ a U18 match vs Chelsea.

“we PERHAPS need a left-back in the building…”

    perhaps… PERHAPS!?

Arhh! You know what, forget transfer talk today, in the words of Mr Nutini, today…

nothing’s going to bring me down! 🙂

Buzzing from the result, still very rusty but the result and 3 points is all that matters. 🙂

    Howay the lads!

I think it will have the opposite effect. Ashley just wants to be ahead of the bottom three. Avictory against a team that finished above them last season shows him that the current squad is good enough to do that. I hope it isn’t true but I believe the spending is over.

it is not Alan Pardew`fault I think it is the owner who is not keen on spending money let`s say more than 5 million in the transfer window I am not sure Newcastle United will bring in a new full back this week.If they bring in a new full-back then he will not be like Enrique, he will not play on the same level.Well, this is the current policy and we as fans must accept it.I don`t think we need a new striker we have already got at least 5: Ba,Shola,Lovenkrands,Best and Ranger. There aren`t good strikers available in the marker. How many clubs in the PL have got top strikers? maybe 3 or 4. I think a new full-back is more important.

Ed, you should do a poll of the following:

Do you prefer playing a natural LB or Ryan Taylor in the LB position?

This one would generate some discussion. Without Raylor, we wouldn’t win unfortunately, but we still need a LB… making sense or not? I am torn!

The optional question is if Raylor could play in any other position so that we could have a win-win situation.

Raylor’s bloody free-kick is real weapon for us, no matter where’s he play.
