Alan Pardew On Cloud Nine About His Players – So Are We

It will take a little time for Alan Pardew and the players, not to mention the fans, to come down off cloud nine, after yesterdays’ great 1-0 win at local rivals Sunderland.

Alan Pardew – still on cloud nine

This was Alan’s second derby game as Newcastle manager, and he almost won the last one back in January by the same score-line.

But in that game, the referee awarded an amazing 5 minutes of added time, and Gyan equalized in the third minute of  that added time,  and Steve Bruce was seen to do a victory dance as he ran down the touch line ecstatic.

But there was none of that yesterday for Geordie Steve Bruce, as Newcastle held onto the 1-0 lead they had gained from a memorable Ryan Taylor free kick.

And the Magpies got yet another win against Sunderland, their 53rd compared to Sunderland winning only 45, by our records.

Alan Pardew seems to have given 129 interviews after the game, and this is what he said in one of them:

“You look at the fixture list we had – Arsenal at home, Sunderland away – some may have said, ‘If they get a point out of that, they will have done well’, a neutral or an expert back in the office.”

“But to get four points out of those two games is a real tick in the box. The thing we answered today, which I said to the players afterwards, the spirit is still there.”

“We were applauded for our spirit last year and quite rightly so.” “We have got new players, but we haven’t lost that spirit.”

“And that was evident today because there were times during the game that we had difficulties and your spirit needs to pull you through them.”

“That’s the type of club we are. Even when we lose, we have got to really be pushing to try to retrieve the situation at the end, and that spirit was evident today.”

“We have got that in the dressing room and that bodes well. When we are 2-1 down away from home or losing at home, we have got to get something out of it.
“It’s a very important trait for a football team.”

There’s no doubt at all that Newcastle fans are enjoying the weekend, and the sun is shining brightly in Raleigh today, and it isn’t even up yet – it’s only 5:49 am.

And it’s almost time for me to take my dog Cassie for her walk, and even she seems to be upbeat this morning, and she didn’t even watch the game!

That cloud nine stuff is really good, isn’t it?

😀

I’m betting there’s still some saying that they worry about the team spirit.
We’ve showed just that in the last two matches, as Pards says, we have never given up, despite the storm against us.
    Good going for the lads.

We can defo have a great season this year. We have the full squad to to it if our last bit of transfer movement is made apparent. Id also buy hutton from spurs as good cover for simpson and maybe palacious and sell guthrie.

Interviewed on Telefoot, Modibo Maiga reiterates desire to join Newcastle but accepts it “won’t be the end of the world” if he has to stay.

I still hope we’re after someone more pacey.

Lads, off topic sorry, but what is Cissoko like at tracking back and stopping his man getting to the by line? Enrique is awesome at not letting his man passed. Just like to know how Enrique compares to Cissoko.

    @Toon1978

Compared to Enrique i don’t quite know, but compared to Pieters he’s a bit more of an offensive player.
So may be similar type of player as Enrique, but he’s atleast more proven being an international and all.

Despite the win, i still think

    1) we need two good strikers. Ameobi’s first touch is like the worst in the world (no offense to those Ameobi’s LOVERS)

    2) we need a left back, Raylor did ok but its better we play a natural left back there. Raylor can play anywhere at the middle

    3) Obertan gave us pace, which we lack since Bellamy.

    4) Cabaye is a quality player, his passing is world class.

    5) Barton is a pain in a ass FOR the opponents

Cissokho is a top LB,last year he had all the top teams after him. Im still struggling to believe we could sign him. Yes he had 1 poor season but frankly, the entire Lyon team was terrible last season. Better than Enrique going forward and with Jonas ahead of him,his defending will be better.

Trini – offer the bindippers a loan move for him – they might just take it lol.

Not sure AC would be too happy though lol.

Cissokho is better than Enrique and im not just saying tht cos Enrique has gone, hes stronger, jus as quick if not quicker, taller and better all round defender and attacker.. would be a great signing couple of years ago when he was leaving porta a remember Milan, Chelsea, Madrid and am sure Barcelona all wanted him but he ended up at Lyon for some reason

For the first time ever as far back as I can remember, (and that’s a long time), we seem to have a defensive unit that you can build on to win or draw games.

If we can get a true goalscorer in now I feel we could be onto something good

Credit to Pardew cos as we all know he’s working with one hand tied behind his back!

    Great win yesterday 🙂

This derby win early doors will do wonders for confidence….so many players coming and going in a relatively short period can unsettle the continuity at a club; this was a big win in more ways than one and will bond the team and lift the spirit.

Cissokho would be a quality addition if we can do a deal for the young LB but Maiga is not the answer up front for me; not based on what i’ve seen and read….I just dont get this one Pards. We’ve got the makings of a useful team with the right adjustments…..

KRUL – growing in confidence and shaping up into a top keeper
SIMPSON – inconsistent and erratic, not the answer at RB
TAYLOR – forming a solid partnership with Colo; looking back to his best
COLOCCINI – looking every penny the £10m player we bought a few years back
LEFT BACK – Cissokho will do nicely, get yer cash out Jabba
TIOTE – top drawer but still looks rusty without a proper pre-season
CABAYE – the new Rob Lee, looks a class act
BARTON – big player but needs to stick to playing football and keep his head down
    GUTIERREZ – a great outlet
BEN ARFA – quality player when fit
CENTRE FORWARD – not Maiga please

It’s sad in many ways and you really can’t trust everything a player says as being quoted accurately by press eager to create a story, but yesterday made Enrique look very silly with his claims of dressing room unrest and disquiet amongst our squad. If today’s claims that we are close to breaking the impasse on a striker and left back are true then we really do have a season to look forward to – add two quality players plus Ben Arfa to that mix we saw yesterday and we ain’t half a bad side for me. I enjoyed the way Cabaye got stuck in when the scum tried to bully us – it showed me that the spine of the team is shaping up superbly, and the duo of Tiote and Cabaye has steel and craft in abundance.

What a great weekend. As promised on Friday if NUFC won I gave my lass the best 40 seconds of her life and I was in such a good mood I gave her a bit extra – FORTY ONE seconds!! LOL

Kinda written that it’d either be Taylor (In that he shouldn’t be our LB) or Barton (Hated) would get the winner – Obviously we deserved to win as cheats should never prosper!!

Soo proud of the team yesterday, they all showed that they want to be here and fight for the club. All the players that left obv didnt wanna be here and soo be it they left, no one is going to ruin our team spirit. Even the foreign lads yesterday fought the fight and done us proud. If we can play with the spirt we played with the past 2 games and picking up 1 or 3 points along the way then surely top 10 is the most realistic target we should be going for in our 2nd season back in the big time, would love to see us get top 7 though!
