Mike Ashley Still Unwilling To Pay £6M For Pieters

It looks like even though Newcastle beat Sunderland on Saturday, Mike Ashley will still not pay our decent money for good players.

Erik Pieters – Ashley offering only £4M

Newcastle got around £6M for Jose Enrique from Liverpool 10 days ago, and Jose was on £45K/week at Newcastle so you would think that Newcastle could afford £6M and around £30K/week for the current Dutch International, Erik Pieters.

By all accounts, Pieters  was also PSV’s best player yesterday, when he played in front of the watching Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew.

These are the situations with Mike Ashley that we don’t fully understand, but if these reports are true, he’s making Scrooge look like Andrew Carnegie, who started to give all his money late in his life.

The reports coming out of Holland are that Newcastle are not willing to play more than around £4M for Pieters, and we don’t know what Newcastle will be offering in terms of wages to Erik.

But even if Newcastle eventually do agree a fee with PSV, then they could have difficulty agreeing personal terms with the player.

As we’ve said before, there’s nothing wrong with trying to get a good deal, but there is something wrong when you are unwilling to pay a decent fee for a good player, and that’s what Newcastle – make that Mike Ashley – seem to be doing with the Dutch International full-back.

Newcastle have taken in around £47.5M in player sales this year, and have paid out £7.5M for Yohan Cabaye and Gabriel Obertan,  so they are up in the transfer market around £40M, and still will not pay another £2M to seal the Pieters deal?

We don’t understand Ashley when he gets this tight about paying out transfer fees, especially when the club has money to spend, and said they would spend it too.

If the news is to be believed, we may have to kiss goodbye to getting a very decent player in to replace Jose Enrique, and a player who having just turned 23, can still improve, as Jose did himself while at Newcastle after joining four years ago from Villareal.

Come on Ashley pay out the club’s money to get some decent players in – you have 9 days left to do that.

Comments welcome.

This borders on an obsession with Ashley. He is ruled by money. He is a business man, make money, do not spend it. This is why he is a billionaire.

Getting a bit fed up of all these figures being thrown around. AT the end of the day it’s all from the press, who have NO idea what we are “willing to pay”, because we give them NO access to the club.

Obertan, Marveaux, Cabaye & Abeid were all signed completely out of the blue.

And there was no mention of Pieters or Maiga until the players themselves mentioned us.

Then, when they do mention us, all of a sudden the papers know everything about it? Smells of complete BS to me.

Sorry to break up your little “posser” love-in TDS and Davyb….but there are still a few of us who aren’t eunuchs and don’t serve the Ashley concubine……the tight barsteward still refuses to pay the going rate for good players….maybe they want one or two more out in the last few days before we scrape around bargain bucket land again?

It’s good we arent held to randsom over fees but at the same time we need players in, we may have two tough games out the way but you can bet fulham will give us a good game. Sometimes you have to pay over the odds if you want something, im sure many of us have sat there thinking about away games that have sold out and considered offering someone more than face value for theirs.

I’d like you to find a single post of mine, EVER, in which I indicate any sort of support for the way the club is being run. Please do.

There are just some of us, myself included, who feel it is better to talk about a subject other than our mean owner 24/7.

I understand that we’re being run like a business, I’m unhappy we’re selling good players without replacements, and I’m unhappy promises have been broken.

But I also know that whining on an internet blog all day does not influence that. Does it? I’d rather talk and have debates about things which can change, rather than the owner – who we’re just going to have to suffer until he leaves.

If Ashley carries on like this he won’t have enough players to make another £50m profit on next year.

    Where’s our striker?
    Where’s our left back?
    Where’s our money?

A few million for two players and he still has the Carroll money to spunk away on pies, casino’s and KY Jelly for Llamearse and Pardieu

We have the makings of a good team. a couple of good players and we could squeak into a Euro spot. That would make Ashley money.

Davyb……we have consistently failed to bring in a striker because we are not willing to pay for quality….if we get “any” striker in, it doesn’t automatically mean we have had a “good” window – surely it depends on “who”??? Mr Myagi seems to be the favoured choice but no-one really knows anything about him (even our French informant Niafron!). The proof will be in the goals scored but really this is all hypothetical anyway – our striker business should have been concluded a long time ago…..we’ve been searching for 8months!

TDS….I know you are reasonably critical but on the last thread you were all cosy with davyb and saying how lovely it was that us “critics” weren’t around to spoil it for you….I just thought I’d provoke a bit real debate rather than the fantasy stuff…..transfer time ticking and a lot of business to be done – complacency (which seems to be kicking in after our excellent derby win and of which, davyb wreaks) will not help.

“The chat on here has been sooooo much better today. The 35m brigade seem to have disappeared.” You said that TDS on the last thread….just gave the impression you were contented with no investment at all in real terms (never mind £35M) – we need some quality in asap but we seem hamstrung again by tightwad when we could actually be quite attractive to good players after a decent start.

Theres no doubting that the $35m on players was inexcusable BS, but at the end of the day I am trying not to comment on the success of this transfer window until it closes (despite the endless stream of sh!te stirring and quoteless articles). We all know the final day tends to go a bit crazy. Still expecting a LB and decent striker at the very least, if that doesnt happen then rightfully I’ll be mad as hell.

Yeah thats worrying MacToon – If we lose Collo and Barton, they’re gonna be nearly impossible to replace given it takes 7 months to find a striker when you’ve got over 30m burning a hole in your pocket. I really hope those 2 stay.

For what it’s worth Majuro….I think we may get a lb and a forward but I wouldn’t put my house on it and it maybe that JB or someone else who’s half decent leaves at the same time.
Bare minimum requirements being met should not warrant lauding it as some kind of fantastic coup – especially if, as seems likely, we turn another transfer net profit! More likely, it will indicate questionable quality.

Im not an Ashley hoop licker but in all honesty I think some of the things going on at the club (some sharp youngsters, bargains like Tiote and maybe Cabaye/Marveaux) look promising. Its hard to be patient but the time to judge is when we look at the squad we have in November. I hope it includes all the first teamers we have now and the addition of a quality left back and striker at minimum. Just trying to stay positive….

Well you have to put it in perspective – we are up in the black in terms of transfers (which in isolation is a good thing) and we have taken 4 points from 2 tough games.

Additionally we have not conceded a single goal despite having a “makeshift” left back who in fact delivered the winner on Saturday.

Complain when there is something to complain about.

Raylor is OK but i don’t think + trust him to play left back for the remaining 36 games and IF he is injured the replacement would be – James 7-yellow-cards-in-a-row PERCH !
