Newcastle Lodge Increased Bid For Pieters

The news today is that Newcastle are ready to increase their offer for PSV left-back Erik Pieters.

Erik Pieters – increased bid for Dutchman

That follows on from yesterday’s news that Alan Pardew was seen at the PSV game on Sunday sitting alongside Pieter’s representative Hakim Slimani.

The Eindhoven side won that game 3-0 at Ado Den Haag, with Pieters playing very well.

The Newcastle Journal is reporting there have been good talks with the players representatives over the weekend, and that Newcastle are now ready to submit an improved offer for Pieters.

Attention has now shifted back to Pieters after Newcastle were quoted an £8M price for Lyon left full-back Aly Cissokho, and that seems to be the price Lyon want and will not take anything less.

Newcastle have balked at most of the prices of their targets this summer,  including striker Mevlut Erdinc, and they are balking at the prices of both Pieters and Cissokho, and presumably Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga too.

It seems the asking price for Erik Pieters is £6.4M, so we’ll have to wait and see how close Newcastle will come to that after presumably already bidding around £4M for the 10 times capped Dutch International, who stands 6’1″ tall.

Of course it’s very difficult to get the exact figures right, but the bottom line seems to be PSV want more than Newcastle have bid so far, and Newcastle are now going in with an improved offer for the player, who we think would fit in very well on Tyneside, and would be a very decent singing.

There seems to be a hope within the club that the deal can now be completed quickly, with the defender said to be mustard keen to join his Dutch colleague and best friend Tim Krul at Newcastle.

We have to hope this deal goes through quickly, and while Alan Pardew has said the Newcastle negotiations are like those of any other club, we have to think Newcastle seem unwilling to pay out the required money to get players into Newcastle, and as Alan has said “over the line”.

That’s why these deals seem to drag on and on and on on and on …. you know what I mean.

We feel like Dusty Springfield – we’re just Wishin’ And Hopin’.

But this news today is potentially good news regarding Erik Pieters.

If we get him then thats a bonus as people have said this guy is a LB specialist so will free up whoever is playing LM to attack rather than, as in the past Jonas having to cover the gap Judas 2 left when charging forward like a bull…

Im liking the team we have now and with Peteirs and a striker then JOB DONE imo, we will have the best team we have had for ages…..

As long as we don’t lose Bartooon

    Top 8 – easy

Fulham is a big test to see what we can do against the lesser sides

Get him in A.S.A.P then have the whole week to concentrate on getting the striker in. Wouldn’t mind him or Cissokho but we need a top class nippy striker.

New LB Pieters – New quailty ST = top 6 finish!

With just a little extra push in the transfer window we could have a side that, for better or worse (imo better), picks up a UEFA spot.

Arsenal are in tatters, esp if Nasri goes. Spurs look avg, esp if modric goes. Everton havent signed anybody and look as plain as usual. Stoke i would tip to go down with all their long ball footy, but as with the weekend, the big fellas in the team will keep them up.Bolton, no sturridge, some injuries, and possibly cahill leaving…

Honestly we need to bring in a quailty LB – Pieters, not bridge as he’s experienced but never that good anyway.

And a SRIKER OR 2!! With Demba Ba seemingly down the pecking order behind Ameobi, I’d say we are really gonna struggle for goals…yet look organised in defence – that could be frustrating, and lead to 0-0 draws…

Tightness meant we missed out on Long, who’s already scored twice and looks good. We need to splash a few notes – then we’ll make a good shout for top 6 finish!!

@ davy – I wouldnt want a sheik coming in and spanking a load of money on Aguero etc. We have done that before… Patrick Kluivert anyone…?
The problem you have there is when he gets bored and pulls his money out, or gets banged up for embezzelement or generally being a crook, then the club is toast, with huge contracts to honour and no way to pay off its debts.
Look at Portsmouth, look at Wrist Ham when the Icelanders went bust. Thats before we get on to Dirty Leeds.
If we are debt free, and that includes debts to Fatty, then we can buy and sell quite freely. If a new owner comes in I would want gradual growth and steady investment.

A game againts a club in huge turmoil without their stand out players we defended for 90 minutes and a team who ran over us and we nabbed a goal from a keepers mistake
If you look at our performances over those two games we should of lost and our luck won’t last so yes we will struggle if this is our squad for the year

    WWJBD sorry not WWBJD

We will finish above top 12, we could have and should have finished 3 places higher last season with a less skillful, older and slower squad.

People criticising Cabeye are just blind the lad has talent and can run box to box (nearly) all game, compare that to Nolan… Fair enough Cabeye is yet to score 12 goals a season but time will tell my friend time will tell

Tiote, apparently Pieters played more defensive than attacking in his MOTM game….but having said that, the PSV coach said he was suprised that english coaching for LBs was always so defensive minded, whereas they teach the player to go forward….so i guess he’s got it in his locker.

Sign of a good team, not playing well and winning!!

We will play a lot better in games this season and lose.
The good thing that i took from the 2 games is that the spirit is still there and everyone was fighting.
even the new players, esp Cabaye, he seems like he likes getting stuck in and not affraid of confrontation.

I wouldn’t be so sure mate I predict 12th again if we hit form in time. Say we should of finished 9th is wrong imo because in the same way some games we shouldn’t of gotten anything out of. We finished where we should of finished because that’s where we finished 🙂

What a pathetic statement. I’d say every one of those who are unhappy with Ashley would love to be proved wrong. I know I would. I firmly believe Ashley is just sticking around until he gets his money back then he’ll sell up but I would love for him to make me eat humble pie, by staying and showing some ambition and investing in a team capable of pushing for honours.

I think if we win the Fulham game then things will be looking better than last season.

Last year we’d get a good draw, then win, but then with talk of Europe or a top half finish being bandied about we’d crash and fail in our next match against “easier” opposition.

and the sunderland game was a tough game (very tough) they where better than us in the 1st half but we limited them to long range shot and not a lot of danger and in the second half we looked better and took away there fight, a true dogged preformace that made me fell better about a lot of thing. admitedly Id rather we passed them off the park and won 5-0 but to show that kind of work ethic and team spirit at a time a supposed termoil makes me smile

I dont know, I agree with Davy to a degree, obviously not everyone because most of the negative fans just want whats best for us, but it does seem like there is a couple that would not be bothered if things went wrong just so they can say ‘I told you so’.
